  1. For bzip2 to succeed on PKWare Zips to Growth · · Score: 1

What we need is a Windows program that looks and acts like WinZip, can compress and decompress .zip files, but saves new archives in .tar.bz2 (.tbz?) by default.

You could have a little "What is .bz2?" button on the Save Archive dialogue that explains that, "BZIP2 compresses your files much better than ZIP does, making it easier to send them over e-mail or instant messaging programs." Something that Joe User could relate to.

Does such an application already exist? Anyone?

We should only go to 3 if the new kernel breaks binary compatability with 2.4/2.5.
If we change now, we'll end up downloading binaries like this:
compiled for kernel versions 2.0.x - 3.3.x or
compiled for kernel versions 3.4.x >
    or whenever they break compatability.

When I was in grade 10, I took a manditory computer studies class that taught us to use Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and nothing else.

In grade 11 we studied Visual Basic, and in my grade 12 Cisco networking class we learned to configure TCP/IP and SMB on Windows XP - so much for router configuration.

I tried to join the club that maintained the school's website, but they wouldn't accept hand-coded HTML - you had to use FrontPage, or you couldn't join.

Extremadura is distributing free CDs, which seems relatively harmless when compared to what happens here in Toronto.

Unfortunately, many, many Linux/Unix users tried this. The UD officials said that the program that they use is written in Fortran, and that there is no decent Fortran compiler for Linux (that isn't in beta).

I've been with Bell's Sympatico DSL service for over a year now, and it's great: fast, pretty reliable. It's worth the $40 CDN/month just to have the phone line free. But they just changed the service. They raised the price by $5/month, and put a 5GB cap on (so if you upload 2 GB and download 3 GB, you have to pay an extra $10/GB). I'm sure that Bell had more than enough money to lower the price by $5, kill any caps, and send every customer a thank-you letter.

We've had a greyhound for just over a year now. They're great geeky pets, if you don't mind something that's lazier than you are!

She and I get up at around 6:00 AM, when I feed her and let her out for a minute. She then promptly goes back to sleep, and I leave for school.
She usually gets up at 12:00 PM and asks my dad to let her out again... then she goes back to sleep.
At 4:00 PM she gets up again to go for a quick (20-minute) walk with my dad, then sleeps for an hour (before her dinner).
After all of this, she's completely exhausted and goes back to sleep until 6:00 AM the next day.

    Adopt a greyhound!
