I don't often wonder where many people who are/were regulars go when they suddenly disappear but your username IS familiar and your comment history definitely checks out. My dislike for government keeps growing with all the bullshit I hear. I hope you didn't lose too much of your humanity in that place.
I have been fired for this by a COO coincidentally. Only the owners of the company had the right to ask me for the access to the system they put me in charge of and he convinced them I wasn't doing my job. So after I was released from employment by 12 days, they contacted me to figure out how to get back in. (Not that the paperwork wasn't already filed per the policies I had written)
After getting the shaft I wasn't so keene on doing consulting work for free. Rumor has it their business is suffering due to that COO and he got fired. Might even get my job back, all things considered.
I solved that problem by implementing a "no personal devices on the network/system rule"
our network incidents took a steep dive to zero off the plateau and same with the other problems when it went into effect.
control your environment, or it controls you.
Once an open source equivalent to H264 surpasses it in quality both code and performance, THEN you'll see that change. Trying to implement an inferior product because it's not f/oss is foolish.
Because this is the exact response the government wants? Because once they tiptoe their way to a quick win to a full on DNA database it'll be too late? Because other examples of what some people call government encroaching on our rights is like microsoft's feature creep, all unnecessary and without merit?
I'm all about what seems like a good idea on paper but you throw the government into the mix and this just begs to be taken advantage of.
If you can tell me where I can play all of these steam games I play, and many others on a console then by all means. Share the knowledge. But nothing beats a mouse and keyboard for controlling them. Even the Starcraft on the N64 didn't hold up to the PC version.
I have a watch like this and purchased it exactly 10 years ago this weekend. The Seiko Kinetic auto-relay watch. Moving it charges the internal capacitor/battery and I've worn it almost every day since then. The occasion's I don't wear it are over a long weekend of excessive rock climbing so it won't be damaged. After a few days it stops the hands but keeps time accurately and when you pick it up and move it, the arms race to the correct time, however the date doesn't adjust/correct itself.
I give this a 10 out of 10 stars. It was well worth the $300-ish bucks I spent on it
Some might consider it a left-over part of evolution much akin to the appendix. Come to think of it, why do we have five fingers (or toes!) and not six or only four? I haven't the faintest idea what the little toe does for balance or walking and had a friend lose one of his to frostbite. Aside from the pain and discomfort didn't have much of an issue with walking or balancing.
The new name for SneakerNet?

I'll remember to put 1029 on my dumb-ass list.

technology can help enforce it. what are you, 16?
rofl. can I still yell *too soon* or is a few years enough?
There is no need to keep the data of where your cell phone has gone or connected. There simply is no reason to store this information at all.
You want me to let you out of that cage?

We shouldn't even have a social security card...

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

I hope it's not an impedance to your plan.
I like your style. I also like your signature.
Great movie. And just like the ending they'll erase our history and we will forget who we are, or where we came from.
You really didn't pay attention to Paul's platform much, did you?

I don't run Windows for privacy, I run it to play games. My real work stays on my Linux/OS X machine.
My paycheck and relative autonomy beg to differ. Not all employers are soulless corporations.
Maybe he's not upgrading and these are his first purchases of MS products.

So obviously not me since I'm paying taxes. That's how it works in this country is it not?
