I think one of the points people are missing with the segway when they compare to other forms of transport is its inbuilt control technology. Most forms of transport are about getting some momentum behind you and just going along with it. With the segway it seems to make more incremental "steps". The comparisons people are making are like comparing running to walking.
(Disclaimer: I have never rode on one of these things, but then neither have most of the other posters here.)
'Well, how come we can't build software the way we build bridges?'
Obvious reasons. Those foolish cavemen (or whoever) that built the first bridges didn't patent the design and copyright the plans. Then hide the bridge in big black boxes so nobody could try design something similar.
They also didn't have to worry about the greedy land owners at either side of the river charging them huge amounts (or just refusing them) to get information on ground they needed to build the bridge ends on.
It's the eventual political application of this. Politicians appealing directly to the subconcious and potentially overriding the concious/rational choices (we hope) the public would make.
what promises to be the granddaddy of all integration projects [....] If Longhorn really does turn out to be a Super Windows--a big if--it will handle so many functions of computing that Oracle, Sun, AOL Time Warner, and Sony may find themselves with less to do.
Hold on isn't this exactly what all the monopoly trials are about.
Um... they already are
The BBC website has an article on Linux aswell.
PS. WTF does "The Sopranos" have to do with HP and linux ?

I've got to admit, I'm curious. What did Sony Bono do ?
He died. Out of 'respect' for his death, Disney decided that their new copyright extension law should be named after him.
Ummm.... is the boycott still on ?
Let's just clarify something : Console != Computer. Apples and Oranges.

- Buy Game for console.
- Insert Game in console.
- Power On.
