A good idea ? To rip off Google ?

Where is DeCSS illegal ?
DeCSS is perfectly legal when using it to play DVD's you own on your Linux box. At least here in Norway, as the trial against Jon Johansen stated a couple of months ago.
I saw rob on the ol' tech tv, and let me just say, the he is one of the LUCKIEST men on earth to have found a nice woman that WILL like him for his brains (because god knows it isn't for his looks;~)
I SAW ROB! (Score:3, Insightful)

Exactly. The news interviewed some computer science guys, and they almost had to defend Linux in public, saying that many large corporations actually use Linux to run servers and stuff like that!
It was pathetic..
You shouldn't have to defend yourself just because you're using an open source OS
There is a judge, and the prosecution has certainly proven it's incompetence when it comes to the technical terms. She had to ask Johansen how DeCSS was pronounced.
Norway have innocent until proven guilt.
"Life" in jail in Norway means 21 years. You can only get 21 years, or life if you will, by killing someone.
Even if Johansen is convicted, he'll end up with a huge fine, or a maximum of 2 years in prison.
If I'm not mistaken it was MPAA who contacted the Norwegian police and got them to investigate this.
It's also quite funny that it's Økokrim ( Norwegian economical crime division ) that is prosecuting this case and not something a bit more technology related.
I watched the news on norwegian televison just 30 minutes ago. They said the prosecution actually made a huge case out of the fact that Johansen was a Linux users, saying Linux is popular among hackers
Here's another article.
Also, here's a statement from Electronic Frontier Norway (EFN) on the matter
From the mail: "(...)
Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away)" is a digitally-animated movie produced by Studio Ghilbli, and its full-digital frames were designed and produced on computers. The coloration of the master for the DVD and VHS was strictly supervised/approved by Studio Ghibli's color designers and DP/Cinematographer.
The "Spirited Away" DVD/VHS was produced through an entirely novel procedure in mastering, and both Studio Ghibli and Buena Vista Home Entertainment Japan believe the quality of the DVD/VHS to be the best and the most faithful in terms of reproducing the original movie under the given circumstances.
As for the trailers on Disc 2, they have been included solely for the purpose of providing necessary information on the film, and because of this nature, it was not specifically color-corrected. Consequently, some differences in coloration may be detected between the same scene on the trailers on Disc 2 and the main feature on Disc 1.
We assure the highest standard of quality control has been maintained on the manufacturing of both DVD and VHS, but differences in coloration may be detected depending on the type of equipment and/or the settings of the system being used.
That's their explanation at least.
I remember being at work at a supermarked ( live in Norway ).. a guy came over and said a plane had crashed into one tower of the WTC.. I thought it was just a crazy accident. We turned on the radio, and as we did the news came about the second airplane hitting. We turned on the tv and let it run the rest of the day ( even though we didn't have the license to do so ). School next day was horrible.. everybody talking about what had happened. Even though it was thousands of miles away it felt like it happened in my country as well.
Wondering about the same thing. Haven't they send up enough probes ?
I mean.. isn't it time to try out something new ? If sending humans isn't safe enoug yet, stop spending the money on these probes and use them in developing safe means for people to travel up there.
I'm no rocket scientist, but they must surely have enough knowledge about mars now to start planning an actuall landing with people instead of robots.
"We don't want to contaminate the planets we go to," said John Bennett
They already have tons of junk flying around in space, and some have crashed on mars. Let`s just hope this one actually land on mars and not just make a new hole in the surface.
Maybe they should send up a clean up crew along with it..
It seems so.. I guess 90 % of the european contries have a law that prohibits unauthorized access to computers, making that legislation ( if it is passed ) only valid in the US ( and probably a couple of other places ), which again leads to the law having very little effect I would guess.
Man, I've been watching to much southpark. Every time I hear the word "probe" I get an image in my head of Cartman "I know it was just a dream" .....
Damn

Slashdot ran the article when Microsoft released their Multimedia OS, so why not when there is released one for Linux ?

I saw the screenshots and I agree, something is terribly wrong there. I was just quoting their explanation to the problem :)

Are their servers going to be able to handle the load?
Not after we've slashdotted them.
Here's an article from The Register talking about the same subjecf. News.com will probably get slashdotted now anyways =)
