They just re-iterate the same BS the 3 main networks do; they're just another vehicle for the left). I can't stand listening to most of the radio stations where I live. The 2 hour play-list grows old quickly.

Maybe I have just turned into an old man though. Isn't the first sign that you are old is that you listen to listen to talk radio?

The situation with ClearChannel and Infinity owning most of the radio stations in America is a prime example of government changing a system that is working and eliminating competition. A removal of competition has never been good for the market.

To respond to the parent comment, America hasn't really worried about countering Soviet/Russian weapons since the First Gulf War (when Soviet T-72's were blowing up like boxes of matches after contact with the plethora of Allied weapons).

There has been a long standing history of the 2 nations responding to weapons (or threat of weapons). The XB-70 scared the Soviets so much that they developed a whole class of fighters (the MiG-25 series) to counter what they saw as a serious threat. America built 2 B-70's and abanoned the project when they realized that high level super-sonic strikes would never succeed.

I think the fact that the Army is looking at unmanned aircraft to handle some of these missions is a good move. It should make for some interesting projects. I think it would be an advantage to be able to send a weapon into a very dangerous situation - one that would be a suicide mission - and not risk the life of our troops. Trained men costs more than machines. Germany and Japan in World War II were still able to produce airplanes even though most of their experienced pilots were killed. Unmanned vehicles would make for a much more efficient and stronger fighting force.

I just hope they don't outsource the software for unmanned vehicles over-seas.

The big thing that companies see are the "total cost of an American Employee" which if you count benefits, Social Security, Unemployment and facility costs, might seem lower up front.

BUT, then there is the management issue of a bunch of off shore people which is a management nightmare. They always have the option of bringing them over on an HB-1 visa and cheating the system, paying them a lower wage and announcing a big "cost savings" in an e-mail to a bunch of executives.

Which opens a subject I was discussing today at work - HB-1 visa fraud. In case you didn't know, HB-1 visa fraud is rampant in the US. Something needs to be done about it. Why are we importing foreign labor when the Tech Sector Unemployment rate is so high? I am a political conservative (odd for Slashdot, huh?) but it is one question that I disagree with the government about.

I see more injuns in Western Pennsylvania than I would see on the streets of Bombay.

What you have to realize is that there is some boss out there who wants to be seen as a "Cost Cutting Company Man" and if he sees an opportunity to lay off what he deems as "lazy programmers" - even though he/she has NO IDEA what these programmers do - he/she will do it.

Another sector of the IS field is being slashed for the same reasons - the IS Support people. The reason for this is that most executives hate their IS departments (not all, most) because they don't understand what they are doing. If everything is running right, they don't hear about them and they don't think about them. If things go wrong, they are the first to point fingers. They want to know why it can't all be done off shore for less money.

The problem with American business is that too many suck-dicks have gotten into Executive Management and have no one else to stab in the back in front of them. So, they look back and step on all of the "little People" while they steal money from the companies all in the name of "business." They are not qualified for their jobs - how many of you run into high level executives who ask questions like...

Why do we need so many servers?

    OR

You just got new PC's 2 years ago! Why does that person needs a new PC? - oh, by the way, did you get that (high cost) ISDN line run to my vacation home in the mountains? And that T-1 to my house seems bogged down (with all of the porn server/spyware that my kid downloaded through the company system)

There is no quick solution. You just have to hope that their bad business decisions will eventually blow up in their faces and business will return to normal.

All that's needed is for some off-shore injun company to share company secrets and screw over a big company such as MS or IBM and the rest of the world will start to wake up - if we are lucky.

And that is my rant for today.

What I find is rather funny is that the RIAA is only going to end up clogging the court system and prevent cases dealing with drug dealers, rapists, child abusers and other REAL CRIMES that hurt real people from being tried.

Maybe the RIAA is trying to protect a lot of the musicians because they usually fall into the category of drug dealers, rapists, child abusers and REAL CRIMINALS. With the courts tied up, their "clients" can delay their pending litigation.

My co-worker reported it stolen. The police took the report and did not give him any problems.

They eventually found the kid with the pistol and arrested him. He had held up 3 different places with the weapon and was suspected of murder on an individual with the weapon. He went to Jail.

    BUT

In the time they took to find the kid, my co-worker was issued a big insurance check for the pistol (the pistol was a rather rare pistol). So, he was able to get another pistol. The police kept the rare pistol.

My co-worker never was a suspect nor was he held in the crime.

I think the point is that it will waste the potential intruder's time - not that it will totally secure your network. If the potential intruder WANTS to get in, he/she will get in eventually. This is to confuse someone trying to just do a drive by hit.

Then again, there is no stopping luck - what if the person hits on the right access point the first time?

I haven't seen any studies on wireless where people are finding Wireless AP's with the "Broadcast SSID" turned off (NetStumber can't find WAP's if you have the "Broadcast SSID" turned off)and MAC security enabled (you can clone a MAC address but you have to have a card that can do this function). If you are going to run a Wireless AP, why would you let any MAC hook into your system and why would you broadcast your wireless AP? Ok, you might have some clueless users who don't know how to configure their laptops and yes, it is a pain in the ass to have to distribute the SSID and the encryption Network key to everyone but why would you make it that much easier for an intruder?

If you have a WAP that doesn't let you turn off the broadcasting of the SSID, why don't you research into either flashing the firmware to enable this feature or buying one that does let you do that? They aren't that expensive anymore.
