By your assertion then slavery was good as well. It really helped to build and establish the US economy. The neccessary evil route does not work in these arguments. There has to be some point where morals and ethics have more bearing than maximizing profits.
Technically it's not life. There is still a bit of dispute as to whether virused are alive or not. They contain genetic material, but are not necessarily living organisms. Or that is what some bio major told me once.

Forget that expensive camera phone, just plug in a third-party device.
I just got the sanyo 8100 for $100. It was a Sprint promotion for new subscribers. I also considered a third-party device on a cheaper phone, but it was rather bulky and unmanagable. Open standards however would make for faster development and deployment of new technologies. Not to mention two-way radio across service providers THAT would be great.
Considering the fiasco that was the Presidential election can anyone say that they are suprised? This company will make alot of money serving the special interests of some political party. By making it insecure they insure that politicians will again be able to steal the vote from the people, with all the real evidence of this being reported in the British press. Your votes mean nothing even moreso now.
Too many people are tied in to file sharing for this to go through. The public backlash would be enormous. The powers that be will not risk having their marriage with corporations bought into the spotlight for something as trivial as this. I mean if the news picks this up there are going to be alot of questions asked about who funds this politician and his motivations. Not to mention he may lose next election when his voters revolt. If anything what this will do is make other proposals seem less drastic. For instance after hearing about possible criminal charges maybe people will think strict DRM and civil suits are not so bad. But I really doubt this is going to ever be a law.
I was just using it as an example. Personally I dont expect anything except to be treated with respect. That whole love it or leave it arguement gets to me and I wanted to present things from a different perspective. I wanted to show that people who tell other to leave usually have no right ot do so.

I beg to differ. One the 2000 election was not orderly. There are various accounts of voters (mostly minorities) being unfairly kept from casting their ballots. They level of shadiness that went on in Florida was for the most part overlooked by the US Press.
Secondly dissent is not always political. Certain groups in this country have been marginalized to the point that speaking out could lead to death or violence. The civil rights movement is a clear example of this. Also homosexuals and muslims in this nation face the real threat of physical violence against them.
Lastly why can we not trash everything the country is about ? Look at the framers of the constitution. Did they not tout freedom while holding SLAVES ? Where were women's rights in that document. The foundation of racism and sexism that this nation is built upon shapes our society today. All presidents have been white men. All signers of the constitution were white men. It is odd that after centuries of supposed growth the same basic power structure exists. Do not use flawed logic that white men are somehow more qualified for the job and are pre diposed to lead.
And finally to anyone who tells me to leave if it dont like the counrty. Some of my descendants were the people here before europeans "discovered" this land. Others were brought here to labour without pay helping to develop your infrastructure. I'll be gald to leave if you return my land and all the capital I helped produce. You may want to deny it but al large part of this economy was built off slave labor.
Alot of the comments I've been reading seem to feel that the RIAA is in the right. The individuals sharing music are breaking the law "stealing" and are getting only what they deserve. The problem is that this is just another example of large corporations gaining the rights to behave like people. How will an innocent person accused be able to defend themselves against the RIAA? How will an artist ripped off by a contract they knew nothing about sue the RIAA? They will not have the financial resources to with stand against the accusation and will lose their case. It seems that everyday private citizens lose thier rights to corporations looking to protect their agenda. Honestly if the RIAA were worried about copyrights they would also pursue old fashioned bootleggers with such fervor and step up thing internationally. What this is about is an entity like the RIAA asserting its rights to do to people as it pleases. Once these people get sued lose and precendents are set the next level will ensue. The RIAA,MPAA,Microsoft,Nike, etc. want the rights of a person but none of the responsibility. In the future business will control everything its already in motion. This is all just a way to consolidate more power. well thats my rant for the day
I know that this test wasn't stiving to be scientific or anything, but it appears that he had his mom play with Lindows for a couple of hours. Wouldn't a better test be to have her use Lindows for a week or so totally replacing her normal windows machine? This would offer better insights into what typical users of Windows are looking for in an OS and how Lindows can better meet thier needs.

I was in Hong Kong in January and February when SARS was just starting. At the time the government was covering it up and the news reported it as a bird flu outbreak in Guangdong province. The really scary thing is that our entire time there no one knew the real threat this disease posed. I was allowed to enter the US and Canada no questions asked. Thankfully no one on the trip got sick, but this case shows that supression of information can have far reaching consequences. Had someone on our trip contracted the illness they could have possibly infected an entire college campus, with little information on what the disease was the result would have been a disaster. I hope this experience teaches the chinese gov't that information needs to be shared not hidden. Had they been honest SARS would have never spread as it did.
I think it is interesting that Microsoft and various corporations are letting people know that their freedoms are gone. It almost seems that they think they can tell us "Well we tried out that freedom stuff and it just wasnt profitable so here is what you get now" and we're all supposed to just say thanks corporate america life with free expression was overated. The world is in a time of transition. What happens now will shape the course of freedom in the future. If we dont stand up now who knows whats next John Ashcroft warning that the area of "open speech" is over?
My job apparently blocks the h2k2.net site. It's supposedly inappropriate and not work related. I wonder how many companies really see this as a threat. To me it's as threatening as holding a drug dealing convention and broadcasting it to the world. The DEA will be there in full force picking up people on minor possesion charges while the suppliers sit at home on piles of money.
Just my take on things
dude $1 coins ? What would that do to the strip club industry?

Here It seems that someone didn't take their spyware too lightly. I only hope that this doesn't get pinned on the /. community.
