I'm fairly certain these are fake. In expose2.jpg, in the window marked only "Censored", it's not entirely censored. There is a single pixel wide length of window left at the top. So, because I'm both a masochist and a karma-whore, I extracted this single line of pixels and found (according to GraphicsConverter), that it is 100% white (as in, not grey, or black, completely white). I also took samples of the very top pixel of the windows in sysprefs.jpg and ichat.jpg, and found them to both be 98% white. Then, I took a screenshot of my own Jaguar desktop, and found the top pixel in windows to be 100% white. So, I conclude, that the windows censored in expose2.jpg are using the old Jaguar theme. This isn't conclusive, maybe jpeg artifacts, but why the hell would he censor them anyways, why not just hide or close them. And lastly, why hasn't the dock changed? It changed in 10.2, and it was cool, sure, but it's far from perfect. Surely the millions of dollars they put into R&D could have concocted something cooler-looking, if not more useful.
That Airport issue was easily remedied by calling apple, explaining the situation, and getting a free replacement. I didn't know what the problem was until I opened the case up and voided the warranty, but it was a simple matter of walking across the street to the local radio shack, picking up 2$ worth of capacitors, and soldering them to the leads of the previous ones. I didn't have to cut out any holes in my airport to make them fit, and they've worked without incident ever since. But your bitterness is unfounded, as this iPod issue is very likely a software issue, and Apple doesn't charge for firmware upgrades.
Just thought I'd clarify, QP12 is ridiculously low, and ensures that the quality will dip to that level at some point. It occurs to me that the average bitrate feature of the later versions of free 3ivx don't have all the kinks out of it yet. Any 3ivx veteran can tell you that you'll get crappy quality on absolutely anything at QT8 or higher. QT5 is as high as you should go for a 300kbit/s episode of the simpsons, QT2 would have sufficed for the Matrix.
This is typical Bungie quality plot work. Marathon is still the best plot I've ever seen in a game, and would love to see serious book writen around it.
If I may criticize, "Performa's" are certainly not Macintoshes, as neither Performa nor Performas has an apostrophe. Though I am curious as to why a Performa is not considered a Macintosh. it was an Apple made computer with a mac rom, that surely said "Welcome to Macintosh" when started up.
They'll be using AAC, which I understand has some DRM built into it, disabled by default from quicktime. They're putting a lot of money into MP4, soon iPods and iTunes will support it. The benefit is that you get quite-nearly-exactly CD quality with relatively low bitrates. At 160kbit/s, one would be hard pressed to hear the difference.
The seeds get spread so quickly, it's simple for any joe-shmoe to get a copy. And the point of releasing a seed in the first place is to test it for bugs, you can expect that every version of safari not offically released is buggy in some way or another... and apple doesn't want just anyone running buggy apple code (because apple cares;-).
Ordinary stupid bimbo/jock: d00d! dis gnutella/kazaa shit iz 2 complicated 4 me HonestThief: Well, just run me on your PC, and every day or two you can download a song real easy, I promise.
Seeing how the RIAA settles for charging 2$ per individual song, how long would it take to rack up 2 bucks of computation time, plus how ever much cash it takes to keep HonestThief running.
if i recall, some people killed themselves under his leadership before he was fired. damn, people already die for him to make the world a better place, and he isn't even president yet! -krel
I'm surprised Apple didn't hire the omniweb people, they may not be the fastest, but they can do some darn fine cocoa web browsing. I understand that back in NeXT, steve used and liked omniweb.
i've two macs, one with all my mp3s, and another with an airport card, and an eyetv box connected to one fine mofo of a sound system (ok, decent sound system). Now i can keep my eyetv stuff on the local hard drive, and stream my mp3s off the other machine. though i would still like to see this in itunes, *dream*, there's always macworld expo -krel
I hate this doom and gloom view of apple and their recent customer-screwing spree. Jobs isn't an idiot, he knows what he's doing. All we need to do is have faith in him and justification for all of these atrocities will become clear. Behold the power of glorious Steve!
newtons can do anything plam and their cronies can do, and do it better. Ogg vorbis streamed wirelessly on campus played through homebrew headphone adapters from a webcast in japan is just too cool to think about without drooling. or maybe somebody could just emulate a palm on a newton, yeah, that's the ticket. ramble ramble, newton
ok, yes, fine, os 9 is a horrendous excuse for an operating system, but it was an enjoyable one nonetheless. I mean memory protection insofar as trusting each application to not overstep its allocation. they didn't even have that problem in system 0.1 (because the mfs drive format only allowed one directory level above root). and same through 1 and 2, i think 3 was where hfs came in. 4 didn't have any new features, 5 was more stable, 6 packed a wallop etc... actually i collect these operating systems;-) -krel
They did. They ran linux on the x86 chips, and darwin (which is open source) on the ppc.

MPlayer identifies .m4a as .mov format, and can play it without any problems (unless it's encrypted .m4p, in which case MPlayer obviously can't play it).

ptthh, yeah, steve would reduce himself to gnutella. he obviously uses direct connect :-P
