Spire has some awesome and comfortable bags... I have the Volt XL and love it, it has lasted me for a couple of years so far through college and will probably last a lot longer...
http://cyberguys.com/Cyberguys has a couple cd carousels in their magazine that are stackable, and can be controlled from your computer using some software to keep track of where the CDs are. You can also use the keypad on the front to access the CD. We used these at one place i worked at and they seemed pretty nice. We had a binder there with a listing of the CDs aswell so you didnt have to bother with the computer. I am thinking about getting some of these for the same reason. They each hold 150 discs and automatically eject the disc you select...
I second the gerber recomendation for the same reasons above. However i think that it is up to you to shop around and check out the ones you like, play with them a little before you decide which one to buy. I have been using gerber knifes for years and stand by them.
What if you got a USB hub and got like 4 1gb USB memory keys or whatever?
Would that help with a large about of low latency memory that you are asking for?
I would like to second this... I go to school and my laptop goes with me to just about every class. The backpack is great and is very comfortable for treking across campus. it has withstood a lot of abuse from me and it is holding up great...
Hey!!! I think losing weight with DDR is a great idea. I too have lost around 30 lbs just by playing DDR over the past couple months. The only other thing i suggest is also simply watching what you eat. That in combination with DDR has helped get in much better shape than i was.
When you can do Tsugaru on heavy(I almost can!!), then you know you've come a long way.
i am always the last one to finish writing that paragraph in cursive on that cursed SAT answer sheet. mine ends up half print and half cursive anyway...

I am also interested in creating a customized knoppix build similar to yours. If possible could you also email me at j450n@cox.net
Thanks
