Blind leading the blind? I don't see many schools asking students to lead class and I think there is a reason...

  2. Re:Yeah, I'll pick you some NICE tomatoes ;-) on Internet Grocery Shopping Slowly Gaining Ground · · Score: 1

I used homegrocer and then webvan when it was bought out. Both were fantastic! They did a great job of picking out fruits and veggies (not that I eat alot of veggies). I was rarely displeased and the 1 or 2 times (over several years) I had a problem they replaced the item or gave me a credit. I had nothing but good things to say about webvan.

Since webvans demise a few years ago, I have tried groceryworks a few times but they are NOT webvan. Even the drivers have warned me about using them to get fruits and veggies (e.g. don't if you are particular at all). The drivers are correct in my experience, groceryworks/safeway can be used for non-perishables but that is about it so I probably will not use them much.

    I want webvan back ;-)

No but SpyMac might be. It seems they are trying real hard but just can not handle the flood of users they have been getting since gmail was announced.

I have an account there but I've only been able to get into the webmail interface a few times. The rest of the time it is down. I should note no email seems to be lost, its just an access issue at this point...

I've tried spymac and am still waiting for gmail before I redirect any addresses I care about...

Seriously. I've had one and tried two others. I hated them all. Well, I'll be kind and just say they didn't meet my expectations (performance, quality, stability, etc). I finally bought a nice sub-notebook that is working out nicely. I recommend you forget the tablet thing unless you have a specific use for it (e.g. medical or something). If you do, try for a Fujitsu tablet (at least they are not total garbage, imho)...

  11. Screead@Home Screead Saver on IAB Recommends Larger Web Advertising · · Score: 1

I have just created the next "thing" in advertising. Its a distributed computing solution for advertisers. Users install the distributed software from the sites they browse. No ads appear during browsing or on actual websites but the websites do get to upload their ads to you (thinks really loud animated/sound screen savers here) and when your systems screen saver kicks in, it rotates irritating ads. The inital install is extreemly small and unnoticeable because the ads build up over time. The best part is, the software retakes control of your screen saver everytime the user visits an affiliate site and sets the screen saver timeout to 1 minute. The "Screead@Home Screead Saver" (TM) is interactive so users can click the screen and launch a site related to the product or service. Future versions of my ad system will install P2P software and turn users systems into nodes which will share ad tracking information. When like users machines are detected, the machines will share targeted ads with eachother. Rollup reports of such ad activity is also reported to the central Screead server for my targeted advertising mail lists (as stated by the implied agreement when users download the Screead Saver). Yes, this is a joke...

  12. I love it but... on Sony Vaio C1MW PictureBook Review · · Score: 1

I wanted the Picturebook C1MSX because it has built in bluetooth and 802.11b. The form factor kicks butt. The reasons I don't have one already are: poor linux support for built-in devices (said bluetooth, camera, etc) and the really low 384 max RAM. I can't live with that.

Now, the Toshiba Libretto L5 I can live with. Similar form factor, no silly camera, 512 RAM, bluetooth, 802.11b, etc, etc, etc. It has been my experience that Toshiba hardware has much better support. Check out the L5 here

  15. IDS on To Digitize or Not Digitize the Family Photo Album? · · Score: 1

You can scan your prints in yourself or have a company do it for you. Either way, there is some work/money involved.

In 1998, I scanned all my prints and threw away my 35mm. I picked up a digital camera and have not looked back. I recently found IDS and now store all my photos in online albums using IDS (Image Display System). IDS has the excellent features of scaling (ImageMagick), caching and ordering from ShutterFly directly from my photo albums (makes it easy for grandma).
