Prayer works under the following conditions...
1) Person being prayed for knows they are being prayed for
2) Person being prayed for is a "believer"
3) Person being prayed for has a positive and hopeful outlook
Otherwise, praying is useless... because there is no God. What is real is the power of the human mind to heal your own body.
Whenever I've done tech support for someone, even after fixing the problem and if it nothing to do with rebooting, I will reboot the system. Just so I don't get a call the next day "i turned the computer on this morning and it wasn't working again". Before I leave, I show the client/customer that the machine does in fact work even after a reboot.
When looking for solutions to an IT problem, usenet is the last option for me. I go to manufacturers public web forums (almost everybody has their own web forums now). I find usenet to be almost useless for anything except porn, warez and political flame wars.
Have a look at the majority of new (and not yet released) movies that you can download from bittorrent sites... they are usually "Cam" copies, meaning somebody used a camera to copy it off the big screen. And guess what, people download these and watch them! The quality may not be great, but you get the gist of the movie and whether it is worth it to see on the big screen or rent it later.
What if the government decided to make it manditory that all adult related sites switch to.xxx? Or what if credit card companies and online-payment system stopped accepting adult orders from anything other than.xxx domains? What if the general public decided to rise up again adult sites that did not give up their.com for a.xxx? There are many ways the.xxx TLD could be enforced. But expect a lot of litigation no matter what route is taken.
Mutually exclusive. Why try to wrap "god" around scientific observations. Why do you think evolution requires a "reason" other than it happens because it conforms to the laws of the universe? Personally, I will wait for the answers, which will eventually come from science. That doesn't require any "faith" on my part. Needing a "god" to be behind the scenes requires a lot of "faith".
Great statement... from somebody that does not understand the 2nd law. Yes, in a large sense, systems break down over time, or better, they diversify. But you can see systems coming together in real time all over. Evolution is happening RIGHT NOW. It is testable, it is observable, it is fact. Why argue that evolution doesn't happen over very large periods of time when we can watch it happening in short periods of time? Or do you not see evolution happening? Do you choose to ignore it because it complicates your belief?
Why is it that a certain group of Christians (the so-called creationists) insist on taking the creation account literally instead of figuratively as it should be? The Bible is not meant to be a book of science... STOP TREATING IT LIKE ONE!!!
People need to learn, they need to think... blindly following what some ancient religion tells you is not productive. Why would you not want to progress? Well, I guess that would answer the reason why people are conservative.... they are scared of change. But people can do it, it just takes a LOT of time. This professor is doing his part in educating the masses.
The creationists are the ones that keep pushing their views, which have been proven wrong time and time again. They just won't stop. I think their main method of defending creationism is "repeat it enough times and people will start to believe it"... and it works!
>>Why on earth would anyone buy a PC with linux preinstalled only to install windows on it? Most PC's with Linux preinstalled are alot more expensive than those bundled with Windows XP Home.
Because you can get $199 Linspire computers and a free burn of your neighbours Windows XP Pro CD. Combine those with some easily obtainable Windows key codes from the Internet and boom... you've got a cheap MS Windows box. I think MS relies on the pirates to keep them in business. Imagine if nobody pirated Windows! Windows would be long gone and people would be using primarily free Linux OS's.
Really, if Microsoft is finding that they need to re-do 60% of their code, why not just dump the system and move to a Unix variant... Linux anyone? Just make a compatible "Windows" interface for Xorg. Just like Apple did with OSX on BSD.
I'm an experienced web developer, meaning PHP/Perl/SQL... you're rates are right on target, maybe a bit better than here in Canada... yes, it's depressing.
Wow, I really admire your bravery in making this switch! It is something I would like to do also... get out of the IT business. I've only been working in it since 1995 but also had it as my hobby long before that. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life... it seems so late to switch to anything anymore. You give me some hope.
Do not est the Lord your God.... for then ye shall now I'm a sham.

Am I the only one that noticed there is no URL in that article?! Or am I just blind?
http://www.splunk.org/
It's just CSS mixed with javascript... is it not?

Was it discussed by Slashdot readers at Digg? No? Then shut the f*** up.
I want this in high quality on DVD!
Despire the link URL, trust me, this is not a link to porn.

But but... God put the beams of light between us and the stars to test our faith!!!

"Would have been good timing to release Vista"

Well, you managed to get "digg" to come up on the main page under the "key words beta" thingy. Congratulations!
Exactly! Why the hell did we get university educations if we are going to get paid shit?
