here in the netherlands, ISPs are not allowed to give out your name to some random company.
and ofcourse I can claim anyone to be my friend. Can't say meeting is a prerequisite.. a penpal who I've never met can easily be my friend. One could even make the point that everyone is your friend until proven otherwise. RIAA lawyers? they don't tell me who is or isn't my friend..and I highly doubt "friend" is a legally defined term.
depends on your definition of 'friend' I guess. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. the RIAA is my enemy. anyone who downloads music is RIAA's enemy. And damnit, the RIAA will never tell me who is, or isn't my friend:)
well.. should I ever feel the need to go on strike, I'll loose payment for that time, if not my job.. I'd love to have a union. a union allows workers to stand up to large companies, and is essential to the proper operating of any industry, who'd otherwise just screw their workers under the guise of either efficiency or profit.
Sony tried it in the netherlands. They didn't like their music being streamed by the VPRO, a dutch public radiostation. So Sony music is not streamed by VPRO. But since the VPRO are (what americans would call) communists, they also stopped playing ANY sony music on the radio. filtering out sony music from the streamed radio broadcasts is too much hassle. Not using ANY sony music anywhere is a lot easier.
Ha! I will explode a nuclear charge right next to Bruce Willis, which will careen him of your asteroid. The asteroid's course has been diverted, and Bruce Willis once again saves the world from disaster with an asteroid.
Dutch national radio does the same, they play MP3s downloaded from Napster (after which they pay the rights for airing the music, so it's legal for them)
what an opt-in list will do to napster will be the following:
-restrict the audience, as music from other countries will probably not be included in the list. If they are, it will slow the appearance of such music, making napster useless outside the US and canada
-No more things like 'Jelle', which started out as a parody on eminem's 'Stan' on Napster and was later released on some record-label(a lawsuit helped to give it publicity). So much for free music.
an opt-in list will be the final straw that makes napster useless.
here in europe too, although there is a provision that if the advertised price is ridiculous
(brandnew pentium 3, 1GHz, 256MB mem. for only $9.99) the company is not held by it. if it would be a normal, but very very very low price, they're fucked.
> Second: At what point does a fertilized human egg become a person? I cannot accept that a single-celled microscopic organism has the same rights as I do.
well that's really the whole problem, isn't it..
It can be argued, successfully too, that human life starts at fertilization of the egg, as soon as you have a cell with a complete set of genes. However, what is NOT clear is whether this single cell is a person. A bit like an acorn. an acorn is the start of oak-life. but if I step on an acorn (let's say I did it on purpose, to continue the analogy with abortion) did I kill an oak, or did I prevent an oak?
just wondering though (very OT) why is it that people who are not into organized religion say they believe in _A_ higher power, rather than 'higher powers' ?
I guess you also would have opposed internal combustion engines, since they drive the steam-engines out of business. Sure, companies should be able to make money in a capitalist system. But they do not have an inherent right to make a profit, just a right to try. when a company goes belly-up because of a faulty or outdated business-method, no crime has been committed (usually..). This is just a case of competition outdoing the older company.
And why not? There's probably some positive morals in Star Wars (Dark side is easier but will consume you etc..). No reason why Star Wars wouldn't be a holy book to some religion. Could be fun in countries that don't recognize atheism, like some islamic countries.

Well.. I think the toplevel scientologists ARE living better.. or at least more comfortable. Ofcourse, as a mere follower it'll only make you poorer. On the other hand.. I just read the Xemu text posted by another user, and I found it so incredibly silly.. It made me laugh. And laughing more is a better way of living.
but smoking several acres of the stuff per joint.. well.. you'll have lung cancer before you're high.
I'll stick to good old Cannabis Sativa Hollandica, or nederwiet. (no points for that quote)

Better a self-spreading well-written trojan so simple an 8yr old can use it, than
a user-spreading trojan (pic of tennis-star) so simple an 8yr old could've written it.
