If MS did this, I'd have a problem with this. There are some very good reasons why there are rules for commercial speech. Those rules have come into existence after much deliberation with advertising agencies, and they agreed to it. This time, it's linux ads in front of your house. Next time could be cigarettes at the entrance to kindergarten, or hustler at the YWCA. The fact that it's a nice picture in the commercial doesn't matter to me. I would be more of a hypocrite if I supported it. I wouldn't support it for MS, McDonald's or Disney. I don't support it for linux, even though I quite like the picture itself.

Most ball-sports are based on war. eg. baseball is based on sieging a castle, football is 2 armies trying to "take" the others castle (=score a goal)..

should those be outlawed under 18 too?

What about martial arts? They're definately violence based. but there is ONE big difference: the difference between violence and played violence. Kids know the difference between playing and real. If violent games are outlawed there are a lot of things that shoulkd be outlawed:
-under 18, you cannot play a part in any play that contains violence/murder/whatever. (sorry kid, you can't be McBeth..)
-ballgames (most, not all. However I highly doubt kids will go: Yeah! Bowls! what a cool sport... )

what I can think of is this:

with Open Source, you don't need warranty because you can see EXACTLY what is going on. The sourcecode perfectly describes the functionality of the software. with free (beer) software you do not have such a precise description of functionality, so you have will have to believe the maker when he says the functionality of the software is X.

This may not be the reasoning, but it at least sounds slightly lucid.
