having 1 godsday will be trouble. therefore this proposal:
- God-day: make christians happy
- Allah-day: make muslims happy
- jhwh-day (pronounced simply 'day'): make jews happy
- buddha-day: a day of reflection
- L. Ron Hubbard day: or they'll sue
- godless-day: for the atheist
- All other gods' day: seven days just isn't enough to name each and every god, or appease all religions
BTW.. Friday.. always though that was dedicated to the Goddess Freya (nature goddess I think, but I could be a long way off)
turbine can't speed up.. no problem.. use CVT (continuous variable transmission). No need to change the turbine speed. You can just keep the turbine at its optimal speed.
not viewing adverts is inconsiderate?? at least with TV I can choose to switch the channel when there's commercials, and there are rules governing those adverts. There is a maximum time for adverts on TV (I think 15 minutes for each hour), but I can still switch. on the web, I can't switch until the banner ads are gone, and their are no rules for those ads or the amount, but I can filter them. I don't force you to take down your ads, you don't force me to watch'em
nah... not apples or tictacs. nothing can keep the doctor away. unless it's a dentist, in which case 7 bulbs of garlic a day and not brushing your teeth will do the trick.
I just know I used to have a HUGE joules-intake... and I had a weight problem: I was too light. I don't understand fat people, fat people don't understand me. but it's definately 2 way: not just the fat people getting slack from thin people... I have been called anorexic, which I certainly am not. it works both ways. (yes, I've also heard: just eat more. won't work with my metabolism...)
it depends on the mod.. if I make a barbie mod it's clearly parody. if I make a DBZ mod, it's less clear, because basically the content is similar (cartoon violence, little story). You can also bet that a 'wallace and gromit' mod is a parody. you have to look at it on a case by case basis.
Since when have EULA ever conformed to any law? just about every EULA I see says that I am not allowed to reverse engineer it. Guess what.. I can, and I am allowed. by law.
actually.. blind people can and do use windows without much trouble. Yes, I know this from first hand experience. this is NOT about treadmills and wheelchairs.
explain 1 thing to me: what part of the new typesetting can even be noticed when run through a voice synth? with these kind of ridiculous restrictions I definately will NOT use it. and please explain this to the blind. because I'm sure they will not appreciate it. I also wonder about the legalities of this in Europe.
so now there is an effort to pressure on known spammers to stop. Not by rules, regulations and law but by consumer pressure. Everyone here always shouts about how bad regulation and law is.. This is what you get from it.. lawsuits, lawsuits and more lawsuits. make some bloody laws that mandate opt-in for spam, and the whole thing becomes a moot point. But we want self-regulation (well.. not me..). This is the internet self-regulating, and once again people whine about it.
>If you're leaving the window of your car rolled down on a busy street and someone keeps on stealing your stereo, do you think your insurance company will keep paying out forever?
they won't pay in the first place. Not the first time, let alone the next ones.
someone seems to have a clue. unfortunately it looks like this slashdot publicity is a little too late: digital addiction (the com one) is quitting. a pity... Oh well.. nothing else to do than wish Ethan better luck on his next venture.
>"Why would a copy be made and sitting on a computer if there was no intention to use it?"
why? well... here's a few reasons:
-reverse engineering (legal in europe)
-it's an uninstalled copy that resides on the network for easy installation/not having to walk around looking for a CD.
-it's outdated/we have better alternatives. (how many editors do you have installed? and how many do you use? If you use vi, you probably don't use emacs..)

hmm.. a 72 hour year?? wow.. not only is this thing hot.. it's quite fast at 4.3633 * 10^14 m/s.
(6M km radius, assuming perfectly circular orbit). Anyone have an idea what average earthspeed around the sun is?

err..unfortunately, it was us dutchmen who turned sinterklaas into santa claus, because it was cheaper (well.. what other reason did you expect?). Santa claus allows you to skip an expensive holiday. coca cola made up the silly outfit. And I have no idea who made up the elves, although I would like to know what they'd been smoking (and where I can get it)
zip however has one advantage over tar.gz: most people recognize it as an archive, whereas they have no clue what *.tar.gz is. this may be a reason to use zip rather than tar and gzip.
hmm.. I disagree with your conclusion that music only stores are dying. Actually what I see happening is CD stores still existing, but focusing on smaller, local bands and special edition "collector's item" CDs, released by the band itself. the selling point is not the CD but the included extra information.
rev engineering IS legal.. it's just not legal in the US.

probably more like 'enterprise-is-free-to-do-anything-they-want' which includes dictating sales conditions.

no, but if I visit your country, I better not talk about how nice it would be if everyone had guns, and how much safer it would be.

much like the people who manufacture crowbars, boltcutters and powerdrills.

not dead... yet.. Cuba bought some of the old super-4's, and they're still in military use because of their amphibic capabilities.
