    the public accepted DVD players, yes.. but the public does not accept region coding. most DVD players are sold region-free and can play disks from all regions. At least that's how it is in the netherlands..

    hmm.. good idea.. should also work on a CD's jewelcase, although you will ofcourse need some spare cases to keep your new software in. the 'no criticism' clause smells like censorship to me.. that would mean an MCSE isn't allowed to give full advise on software. He cannot point out flaws or improvements. and he cannot compare features, since if another piece could do better in certain areas.. but he can't critisize the M$ product..

    there are so many messages of people who want to vote , but in the end vote for bush or gore. why not just vote for what you believe in? the worst that can happen is that gore or bush wins anyway, but with a smaller margin.

    and you can ofcourse only find educational resources in those 2 domains. You can't make a distinction based on TLD, since the TLD says virtually nothing about content. a restriction to edu and gov would REALLY be censorship, since this would restrict accessible sites to US only.

    True. they were indeed paid. For now I'll take the Nightwatch by Rembrandt van Rijn as an example. (incidentally, Rembrandt died quite poor). Rembrandt didn't think one day: well.. I'll make this really cool portrait of the Amsterdam 'Schutterij' (a city-guard like organisation, IIRC). Some day in 1639 Frans Banning Cocq came to him asking for a portrait of the schutterij. So Rembrandt was paid for his time, materials and lotsa other stuff. but NOT for intellectual property.

    That is because in europe donations to political parties by corporations are subject to some very restrictive regulations, to rule out the buying of votes by industry. This is the number 1 difference between US politics and european politics. In america you NEED corporate backing, in europe you don't.

    as a non-american I am really puzzled by this... how can votes for 1 candidate hurt another? The way I see it this can only be because there is a choice of 2 parties, and all other parties weaseled their way into the political system..

    that depends entirely on the pressure. The lowest pressure that CO2 can exist as a liquid is 5.1 athmosphere, at a temperature of about -57C.

    I've come to the conclusion that the whole gun debate in the US, and the pot debate in Europe represent 2 very different views of governments:

    Europe: We don't care much about what you can do to yourself, that's your business. However we will restrict stuff made to harm others.

    US: We don't care what you can do to others. But we will restrict stuff made(or grown) that might harm you.

    well.. strictly speaking the MPAA isn't making much money at all.. the money is made in copious amounts by its members, the individual movie producing companies.
