There was talk of something like this a while ago. I think it's great - sure it would be nice if the machine could genuinely re-boot from cold start to desktop shorter but this is the next best thing.
Our machines have turned off automatically on shutdown for years, so I am going to walk away when I set my machine to shut down. If that means it takes longer but next boot up is significantly shorter, definitely not a problem with me. That's just clever design as far as I'm concerned, regardless of 'cheating' or not.
I wish I could find the article but basically Apple does clever stuff like this to make things seem quicker. I've heard that when you switch between tasks, it pulls up a screenshot which it took the last time you used that app. It displays this quickly and then while your eyes are looking for what to press, it's actually still loading the real application back into memory. It's simple and effective at making things seem quicker than they are -again cheating but ultimately a good user experience.
He hasn't done a bad job but it's nothing unique, maybe I'm getting old but I'm sure I've seen stuff posted damn near 10 years ago with a PS2, Dreamcast, SNES or something in a case AND the PC - I'm pretty sure there were quite a few of these articles, years and years ago.
I want to see more articles on people hooking up their PC to other gadgets in the house or easy monitoring solutions or something. It's 2011, why the god damned heck do I still ride on PT to work each morning and sometimes think "oh god, did I leave the heater on? I can't remember if I left the damned heater on" - how come I can't log in to my home power system and check if power point #2 in the bathroom is pulling 1,015w or 15w (toothbrush!) ?

With Android, these things might be ok - but as they are, people are taking a gamble. If it was still 99$ I might consider one but as they are over 200 to 250$ on ebay right now, no thank you - bit too pricey for an impulse purchase.

I'm the last person who should be defending this game as I've been taking the piss out of it for 5 years. I've never been a fanboy of the sequel, never did I have confidence it would ever deliver anything at all. I liked the original as a teenager but that's about it.
Regardless though, I've nearly finished the game (Australia, we got it 4 days early) and I can say if you liked the original game, this is a fantastic melding of the original and modern day gameplay. This game is getting slammed far far too excessively. I guess it was to be expected - but I personally went in expecting garbage and got a half decent game. It's certainly better than diluted trash like Crysis 2.
The game is a little obnoxious for the PC types but you know that going in to it, you wouldn't go to see Fast and the Furious 5 to expect high quality cinema. This game is trashy, dumb - yet quite fun, it's a guilty pleasure for my childish side and honestly the core gameplay itself? It's really fairly decent.
The graphics while not top of the line (quite bad in spots) are also quite GOOD in other places, several scenes I've been outright surprised at how good they are. If you played the original game and you're in the 27 -> 45 age group with any sense of nostalgia, try it out with an open mind. Don't expect some thick storyline, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I know I was. P.S no it's not perfect, some scenes are frustrating in difficulty or not funny - but all games have low spots, overall, it's not even 1/3 as bad as some of these people are saying.

I've been bringing monitors, keyboards, mice, hard disks, memory to work for over 10 years. - Being an impatient nerd means I really don't care if work won't pay for me to have some nice hardware, if I'm on a machine for 8 hours+ a day, I want a nice big monitor, fast PC and comfortable equipment. I just installed an SSD at work recently, put the work supplied hard disk in a drawer labelled 'property of XYZ' - my SSD in the PC is labelled 'property of me' If I ever leave I assume I'll have to 0 out the drive but that's really not going to upset me.
