This I agree with. I spend some time in #gentoo arguing with people new to game that -march=blah -O2 -pipe is fine. The use -fobliterate-regparms-nstacks-nstuff isn't really going to benefit anyone. Of course the same people have their boxes overclocked and then wonder why gcc can't compile programs.

I'd recommend -Os instead of -02. It's all the -O2 optimizations, except for the ones which increase code size. The end result is slightly slower binaries that are often significantly smaller, meaning they fit better into cache, which often can outweigh the loss of some optimizations.

Yes you are being forced to buy channels.

When was the last time Rupert Murdoch came into your house, stuck a gun to your head and "forced" you to buy a particular channel?

    Didn't think so.

You are not being forced into doing anything. If you don't like the way Dish runs their business, buy from a competitor whose business practices you prefer. Or go without TV. You could even start your own satellite company; that's the beauty of capitalism.

If any other sector of business did this, it would be illegal

If I make and sell decks of playing cards, I don't have to sell you an ace of Spades by itself if I don't want to. I can choose to sell single decks or even packs of 100 decks, if I want.

Similarly, Dish Network doesn't have to sell you Comedy Central by itself if they don't want to. They can choose to bundle channels however they want, and you can choose to buy them or not.

Hell, your argument means Microsoft's monopoly is okay too - after all, no one *has* to buy anything from them...

In a capitalist system, there is no such thing as a true monopoly. Anyone can, at any time, start a company that can compete with Microsoft or Dish or any other such giant company. What's illegal is when a giant company uses its monopoly power to force other, smaller companies out of business.

Civil suits are a bad analogy. Should people really be imprisoned for a nonviolent, consensual act in their own home, while thousands of murders, rapes, robberies etc go unsolved?

The big drug cartel controllers will shift their whole focus, causing a domino effect down the ladder. That gangster who used to sell pot, is now selling stolen stereo systems or something else.

Stolen stereo systems is a far smaller market than drugs. Also, the time and money spent fighting the drug war could then be reapplied to fighting and prosecuting true criminals, such as murderers, rapists, and thieves.

So.... your theory is that people who have already proven themselves to be untrustworthy and dangerous, and have undergone no rehabilitation at all, should be as equally trusted as people who have posessed firearms for decades without using them to detrimental effect?

If they haven't been rehabilitated, they should not be released from prison in the first place. It's that simple. If they have been rehabilitated enough to be released, they are also rehabilitated enough to own a firearm.

If a violent criminal has proven that they can and will hurt people if allowed to exercise second amendment rights, they have, through their own choices, forfeited their rights in favor of the rights of innocent people.

When they go to jail, that is forfeiting their rights. They should not be released until they have been rehabilitated, and when they are, they should have their full rights restored, including 2nd Amendment rights.

This holds even more when you consider how many violent criminals are released on "good behavior" solely due to overcrowding

The overcrowding is caused by the nonviolent criminals who should not be there in the first place. Release all nonviolent "criminals" who have not committed any true crime, and overcrowding will disappear overnight.

and how many violent criminals simply return to prison anyway.

Then make jail time even steeper for violent criminals who commit a second crime. But some ex-cons may be genuinely rehab'd, and deserve their full rights back.
