  2. Re:Add homebrew unfriendly to the list! on The PSP - Sony's Missed Opportunity · · Score: 3, Insightful

Well that is one way of thinking about it.

I happen to have both a DS and a PSP, and I can say without a doubt that if you are into homebrew the PSP is your best bet.

Besides the more powerful hardware the primary advantage is the single storage standard. Homebrew only needs to know how to access the MSPro and that is is, compared to the DS this is a dream. With the DS you need to either program homebrew specifically for the flash device you are using or go with DFDI patches. This is good in theory but in reality the DS homebrew scene is full of almost working apps.

The PSP on the other hand just requires a firmware downgrade followed by a custom firmware flash and you are good to go, the whole process takes about 30 minutes if you have a supported PSP and downgrades are coming out all the time.

Now each systems have their own benefits, and that is why I have both, but to say the PSP is a bad system is a just unfair. I could say that the DS is underpowered, hurts to hold for a long time and needs a better screen and is too difficult to get homebrew working on, but that would be completely avoiding all the good points of the system.

  7. Re:My thoughts on Ontario Proposes School Cyber-Bullying Law · · Score: 1

Well that is only one way of thinking about it. I'd prefer, if I was a parent, to have bullying cases handled in schools. While I don't dismiss bullying is a serious problem, I think it is better to have it handled by teachers and parents before dragging the police into it.

What if your son was bullying another child? Chances are they have picked on other students before. Would you want the police called? Or would you prefer to be informed by teachers so you could discipline your child?

I think it's safe to say the vast majority of people have "bullied" another person in the past, I look back at how I was as a kid and I'm disgusted at some of the things I did. Children are cruel, susceptible to peer pressure and will get into fights.

Obviously there are always going to be exceptions to the rule, people that cross the line and parents that just don't care. In this case the police should be involved, but the vast majority of the time I believe it would be much more effective to have parents sort their children out rather then police.

    Just my two cents.

Apple sells the iPods to the stores at pretty much the price you pay for it. There is very little profit in selling them, with the exception of all the indirect profit from people buying other stuff while they are there. They could drop the prices as much as they wanted but they would be losing money then.

My situation is kind of different. I have a girlfriend and a full time job. The only time I get to sit down in front of a computer to play games is on the weekend. Week days are taken up with cooking, cleaning and generally living. I simply don't have time to sit down for an extended session of Civ or CS or whatever. I went and got myself a DS for Christmas and I love it. The games aren't necessarily better or that much different to what I could be playing on PC. However I can now sit next to my girlfriend when she is watching Gilmore Girls while I play. Furthermore when something happens that demands my attention I can just quickly close my DS and give that attention. It pauses my game and will stay like that for days before the batteries run out. Now I'm on the look out for a PSP as well.
