The flip side of the coin is when "Shakespeare in Love" won best picture over "Saving Private Ryan". Shakespeare was by all means an enjoyable movie, but Ryan was a better film.
It's truly amazing what Christopher Tolkien has done. He's taken odd bits of discarded writings, rough drafts, and other mishmash, and turned it into a sort of canon.
Actually if you read "The Hobbit" there is significant mention of the eagles not being at anyone's command. The only reason they help Gandalf and the dwarves escape the goblins in the Misty Mountains is to repay Gandalf for aiding them, not because they felt it was the "right" thing to do or were asked to do it out of the kindness of their hearts.
I can't even believe I'm arguing this point, but the crucial difference is that (at least at first) Lois wants nothing to do whatsoever with Clark, she only has eyes for Superman.
A good point, but CK as Superman also doesn't want to endanger LL by being with her.
No. Peter has already completely fallen for MJ, but can't endanger her by being with her. That's the tragedy of Spider-Man, that's the part (aside from fairly interesting baddies) which makes Spidey so interesting (to me at least). (Just because Clark Kent can't endanger Lois Lane by being with her and revealing he is Superman, doesn't make Spider-Man a rip-off, does it?)
If my wife wants to watch "Will and Grace" using this "uberdevice"... I can't pick up my game console and go to the other TV with it, because in this "uberdevice" world that device is my game console.
Why would I sacrifice flexibility? This is a similar reason that I'm just not interested in the "DVD Player selling point" of the PS2 and XBox -- I can't do both at the same time if they are the same device.
What's more Apple gives all of this money they collect to the music industry who themselves have to do virtually nothing for it but trade a bit of paper.
Apple gives the same deal to independent labels. CDBaby records are generally available at iTunes, and the artists are getting a pretty good deal with them.
Every other label would get 80 cents off the same dollar. It's not Apple's fault that an artist signed with the RIAA which might give them pennies out of that dollar, instead of an independent label which might give them 70 cents off of that dollar.
Tell that to the hispanic man who empties my office waste bin. Tell that to the black woman who works the register at the cafeteria. My software project's work group is comprised of 11 white men, with a white male manager, who has a white male manager, who has a white male manager,..., with a white male President and CEO of the company.
Look up the food chain. Look down. There is a color and gender gradient which is so clearly obvious it is sickening.
Sharpton may not have held elected office before, but he is still rich
Sharpton was born in Brooklyn, NY, and began preaching at a very young age. His daddy didn't send him to Harvard or Yale. After his parents divorce, he lived in the Brooklyn projects, with welfare checks to pay the bills.
But to get back to the point of being called "a racist" and "disgusting". If it's racism to notice a trend of entrusting the Presidency time and time again to "Rich White Man" and want change, if it's sexism to do the same, well then damn I guess I am a racist and a sexist. "Rich White Man" has been screwing the country and lining his pockets. I'm ready for something different, and next November, I can almost guarantee that there won't be much difference, substantially, between whomever is put forward by the two "main" parties. It disgusts me that America has had 43 presidents, and every single one of them has been a white man. Are we to believe that people are being judged by their characters, when not a single time in the 200+ years of history of the United States has a minority or female candidate had sufficient content of character to be fit to be even a major party nominee for president?
The system is f*cked and if I have to resort to racism to un-f*ck it then by all means, down with the white man. It's all fine and good to sit at the top of the mountain as a rich white man and say, "ok, now that I'm up here, everyone will be judged on their character! huzzah!". The problem is... a lot of the people in the power to do all the judging are racist white men.
I'm not voting for Sharpton because of the color of his skin. I would be voting for Sharpton because he is different that the other 6 people who appear to be carbon-copies of each other.
I'm so tired of being presented with the "choice" between "Rich White Man A" and "Rich White Man B" at each level of the process. In the 2000 primaries, both parties #1 and #2 were "Rich White Man" and here we are in 2004, and the Democrats are presenting a many-headed "Rich White Man" field of "choices". Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards, Gephardt.
Screw them all. I'd vote for freakin' SHARPTON if he makes it to a ballot near me, and I think he's INSANE.
I'll probably vote for Gen. Clark between the top two "choices" of "Rich White Man", since at least he doesn't look like a weasel. (Sorry, Dean, but you look like a weasel.)
And after checking J&R Music and Computer World, they've already got the 10 GB iPod for 283.99, so for $100 off for joining Audible that would be just $183.99 for a 10 GB iPod, compared to $299 at Apple.com. The 40 GB iPod is $473.99, which becomes $373.99 after the $100 off offer, compared to $499 at Apple.com.
Join AudibleListener for 12 months and get an iPod for $100 less. Naturally you'll spend $14.95 per month on the AudibleListener account for 12 months, but you'll also get one audio magazine, newspaper or radio program plus one audiobook each month. What, you expect something for nothing?
I had bought a PlayStation earlier in the year, but had to return it when I really needed some money. Then for Christmas, I unwrapped a PlayStation game from my fiancee's mom and thought, oh geez, what am I going to do with this, while thanking her a lot and saying I could play it on somebody else's system. I didn't get it -- my fiancee's gift which I opened next was a PlayStation. Pretty cool gaming Christmas, especially since my fiancee bought herself Tomb Raider for us to play also:)

Sometimes, you just have to go with the least bad of the available options.
Gee, sounds like a US Presidential election!

Funny you should mention sports. How many black division-I college football coaches are there? How many black NFL team presidents? See a pattern?
race does not matter.
..., with a white male President and CEO of the company.

I'd love to rise above race and gender -- unfortunately the rich white men in power keep pushing other people down.
The system will REALLY be f*cked if we take into account Nazis like you.
How typical.

Haha. +1 insightful to that. Good point.

voting for or against someone because of the color of his (or her) skin is racist. You disgust me.
I'm not voting against Dean and the "clones" because they are white, and I'm definitely not voting for Sharpton because he is black.
I'm voting against Dean and the "clones" because they are rich, spoiled, career politicians.
I'm not voting for Sharpton because of the color of his skin. I would be voting for Sharpton because he is different that the other 6 people who appear to be carbon-copies of each other.

I used it on a dual-P120 back in "the day" and it was by far the best option at the time. (BeOS didn't support my video card).
My first Heinlein book: "Space Cadet", age 9. My favourite: "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress".
Something to put on the Athlon XP 1800+ which doesn't suck.
Again it's not 400 gallons, it's 400 liters.
