    that was the point. you don't have to buy anything, you already have a multitude of CD players more than likely, if not, many can be had for $10-$20, either from EBay or a pawn shop, etc.

    so, nobody buys DRM compliant equipment. then what happens. i think just about everyone is pretty happy with their CD players. as long as only a few gullible/stupid people buy the DRM-encumbered crap, most music will still be available for the larger market.

    maybe that's because they are all actually the same person. maybe people should stop trying to be different people at different times of the day. maybe people should just be themselves and not worry what other people might think about them if they read something they wrote in the 5th grade. maybe people should just grow up and realise, hey, this is the 21st century. most of the things I do are well known to just about anyone who cares enough to look. maybe I should stop being a little prissy bitch?

    or just continue the farce of trying to be 1 person at home, 1 person at work, and 1 person on-line. yeah. one of those options is easier and makes a lot more sense than the other one.

    but then again, who am I to talk? I don't go around introducing myself to other people as...

    RTP in north carolina is situated in the triangle resulting from connecting the universities of UNC, Duke, and NC State. it was designed that way. sometimes proximity to technical work force is fairly key.

    that's why it is a short drive from the mountains (think skiing, snowboarding), and all KINDS of hiking/canoeing/fishing. there is more to life than dance clubs and date rape. for those of us who like the crisp outdoors over a musty dance floor, albany NY beats the CRAP outta LA.

    all RTP needs are a few entrepreneurs to set up shop, collecting the ex-engineers from cisco, nortel, and IBM, and creating a product. i've often thought of doing this, but i've been lucky enough to keep my job (so far).

    oh, i forgot, nobody is buying anything right now. it wouldn't really matter how many small employers were in RTP right now, the economy is just not strong enough to sustain the numbers of employees which are here. unless you know of someone in the area with venture capital, you won't be staying in small business for long, because nobody is buying, and you can't spend indefinitely without selling something.

    iirc from history class, we not only invaded Indian land and warred against them, we slaughtered their entire food supply and left it to rot on the plains. oh, yeah, and we killed their women and children, and of course the men, because US cavalrymen for whatever reason liked the trophy of an Indian testicle sac over their saddle horn. look THAT one up.     so, if you want to be a net broadcaster, have a tiny little radio broadcast, even if it's over walkie-talkie, and follow into "duty free" webcasting. seriously, the thing about being "force fed" is entirely correct, I don't think it is right for the royalties to apply to streams like this, even from non-radio webcasters, which act for all intents and purposes like radio broadcasts. if they want these stupid royalties, keep them to the "play on demand" type downloads, not music streams.

    ... it ain't just the spice of life. when i was a kid, we played "number munchers", "math blaster", etc, because those were the only games available to us on our apple ][. now kids have "Kill a Hooker part 3" on their PlayCubeBox 3. how is "math blaster" going to compete with that.

    and don't try suggesting that parents shouldn't get "Kill a Hooker part 3" for their kids. Because the parents know that the kids will stop loving them if they don't buy them all the things they want.

    construction-type games are a limited market, because they have to compete with the promises of instant gratification which other games provide. why spend hours constructing something when you can press the power button and be killing cops in less than a minute?

    Because in Peru, they are trying to put a lot of the government on-line. With Microsoft .NET, you have to be running Windows to access the .NET servers. So the government would have to ensure that every single Peruvian citizen has a computer capable of running Microsoft Windows .NET, as well as a license for Microsoft Windows .NET. With a large population (about 30 million), the licensing fees alone are over $1 billion US dollars.

    That's a reason. This is not a company with 200 employees. This is a government, trying to run on-line. This means all citizens must have access. $200 Microsoft Windows .NET licenses for 30 million people is NOT AN OPTION.

    i am an official MORON. but again, buying a CD from one of the distributors is fine, but again, how to directly contribute to the project financially? i'd rather my $9.99 would go directly to OpenOffice.org than through some CD distributor.
