Yes, I did a cursory look at the search results in google scholar.
Just because it has the acronym DARPA in it with the phrase "computer
science" doesn't mean it was DARPA funded research. Therefore your
claim of 18,200 research papers is not an accurate count of DARPA
funded research papers. Unless you count my using the internet in
research as being "DARPA funded" because I used something [the
internet] that DARPA research funds helped develop.
Same difference. DARPA supplies the bankroll. Same with most gov't organizations. They don't make anything, they fund contractors, and others to do things. I know how the Gov't works, they are a managment organization. A big bureaucracy. With a lot of overhead. Paperwork, paperwork, audits, audits, etc. To keep everyone who receives Gov't (taxpayer) money honest. How much money is wasted due to the bureaurcracy? NASA, same way. NASA doesn't "make" anything. They manage contractors. They provide $$$ to do research and make things. That said, a very small precentage of funds, do make things, like prototypes and such. But on the whole, the Gov't doesn't manufacture anything. Or do its own research, it is contracted out.
That is why some CS researchers are upset. DARPA may be responsible for the internet, but what other important research has come to the CS world as a result? Examples please. If you say TIA then I don't want their money funding such research. Did Gnutella come from DARPA research? No. P2P might just be seen as a tool for infringment, but it has potential for much more. It is the basis of the internet. It helps route around censorship and "top level" control. The internet doesn't need DARPA anymore. Most of the new breakthroughs in CS are gonna come from some teenage hacker and his peers, not to mention those who make the hardware and software that the internet runs on. The pentagon wouldn't know 4th generation warfare if it bit them in the ass. And it is. The future of warfare is the men on the ground. Not some high falutin' computer system. Leave the CS research to computer people, not the DoD. They need to figure out how to prevent politicians from getting them involved in quagmires.
If you really want longevity you should take your microfiche and cut the words into sheets of gold.
looters. That is why we only have stone statues from early times. The bronze ones were melted for other purposes (cannons anyone?)
Call me a stickler but I believe there is just as good a reason for this convention to be enforced as there is for the difference between "KB","Kb","kb", and "kB" to be enforced.
so which one is kind bud?

Oh, I'll agree Classic MacOS needed to be jettisoned. It was painful watching Apple go thru vaporware after vaporware. I'm glad they finally got their act togeather and ditched Copland and never got BeOS.

Yes, but a lot of the derision was the same BS that is still brought up, dragging the disk to trash, one button mice, you can't upgrade it, etc. most of it was misinformed wintel fans, or more accurately, mac haters, which I never understood. Maybe they were all trolls, but there were multibutton ADB mice, upgradable processors, and good solid hardware. The PCI powermacs were arguably the most upgradable macs ever. Apple's harware engineers, while not on the bleeding edge, produced very good hardware, and the Classic MacOS wasn't the horrible dog everyone made it out to be. I'm using OS X on a 1997 PowerComputing clone, which shows that the hardware is capable (I've also run OS X on a 8600 and a 9600 upgraded to a G3). There was a good hacker community too. (for classic MacOS). I'm not bitter, but too many people dis others' platforms for no good reason. I've also used DOS, Win9x,XP,Solaris and linux. They all have their good points. PowerPC has been good for the computing community, by providing competition. It is used in embedded systems alot also.

Back in the day, you remember, hot grits, john katz and such, Macs were derided by the slashdot crowd quite a bit. Nice to see that apple is getting the respect it deserves. I'm not saying that pre OS X was the best OS around, but the wintel crowd were such assholes to the Mac crowd. of course, those who knew better weren't assholes. Thanks Steve Jobs, for rescuing a great company, and giving it the direction it needed. It is a great day in apple land again.
Which, upon reentering the space station, could be, well, toxic. Hydrazine is a common thruster fuel, and is very toxic. You don't want to bring it back into the station with you.
Thanks AC. I swear I did all that when I signed up. I think those bastards (yahoo) changed my preferences at one time. (probably under the guise of "added new features") I always by befault edit preferences to prevent exteraneous email. (I would just ignore the bulk emails anyway).

Yes, Frontline did make their story on the porn industry in a downloadable format (mpeg I believe). This was to enable some of us to watch it who otherwise did not have a local PBS station broadcast it. So sometimes they do the right thing. Isn't quicktime streaming server cheaper than realmedia?
All of the high end macs were solid hardware, Quadras, 8500's, 7500's, 9500's 9600's. I still have an 8500 working wonderfully. Not to mention my PowerComputing clone. Yes, the Performa 6400, 6500 and others sucked.
It was painful to me. Some of our veterans' comments give a mixed respose. Some of them say it was painful, some say it wasn't, and some needed stiches due to movement during the "injection". I know that spraying liquid thru your skin can be painful, but with one who is skillful with a needle can make it damn near painless.
I got vaccinated with an "air gun" back in the day. it hurts, probably as much as a needle. But you can do a whole group of people quickly, 'cause you don't need to change needles.

Hate to nitpick, but it is only available in WMV and RealPlayer. I wish it was in QuickTime...
