Why not just say they'll answer the top X% of petitions? Or even better, handle the single highest petition one at a time? Just take whatever's on top, address it, and then move to the next highest petition?
Or if they have a group doing it, each takes one of the top 10 petitions.
Hear, hear. The best relationship I've ever been in (the one I'm in right now, and have been for going on 5 years) was from a free online dating site. After several relationship bombs, I decided that I wasn't going to settle for someone who was cute, or liked a TV show I liked, or had a passing interest in something I liked.
I set my bar at 95% compatibility, as denoted by the site. I filled out my profile honestly and figured I'd never actually find someone. The best matches were all in the 80%s for a couple months, and then suddenly there she was: Miss 98%.
The heat required to get the mini-tornado started would be provided by a temporary heat source, such as a heater, or steam. However, AVEtec states that once the vortex is thus established, the continuous heat could then be provided by a more sustainable source – such as waste industrial heat or warm seawater.
Seems a little hand-wavey, and I'd still like to see how "potential" this 3 cents per kilowatt hour prediction is.
But the idea of parking one over a geothermal vent or floating them on the ocean tethered to already-existing wind turbines seems less ludicrous to me now.
So the generator has no carbon emissions, but without heat it doesn't work.
So where do they get the heat, and how much better is it to use the heat for this instead of any of the dozen other electrical generation methods?/off to RTFA.
Looks great to me, though I have Adblock and NoScripts (on Chrome) on by default for every site I visit, unless that site has proven to me that I can disable them. Endgadget is a single column article with pictures interspersed, on a clean white background.

I play a little (read: a lot of) Minecraft, which is available on Linux. The reason I started playing it in fact is because it was for Linux and that's all I had. I've also started accruing a library of games from Steam that I tend to not play, including a few games that I play online with friends. I suppose those games would keep me from switching back to Linux, all other things being equal.
But in all honesty, I haven't switched back to Linux since Windows 7 came out because I don't mind using Windows 7. If it sucked, I'd be on Linux and no game could pull me back. But, much to the chagrin of many, Windows 7 is a pretty good OS and I have no problem using it even though I almost never play really serious games on my computer.
Sorry. As I said I have no idea how much electricity I use. I went, got my bill, looked at it, put it away, and came back here. Between looking and returning, I forgot the units.
I used about 7000 KWH. FTR I pay about $30 in the winter (sometimes less) and $70 in the summer (sometimes more).
I find it quite interesting that so many here can just whip off their electricity usage right off the top of their heads.
I doubt they can. I did the same thing I do every time I need a fact when posting online: I looked it up. I suspect most others do the same.
I use 7,000 MWH per year, though I live alone in an apartment. As far as big power draws, I only have the TV on when I'm actually using it, but have 2 computers that are on 24/7 and another that is on probably 12/7. I have A/C but heat is on gas. I have no idea how much each thing contributes to my bill, but based on the month-to-month graph I suspect A/C is over half of my electricity use.
Oolite was a very nice distraction for a couple days. Maybe a week. It took me back to a time when I got my money throwing newspapers on porches, and a $50 video game had to last me a year. But it suffered from being a moderately reskinned exact copy of a game with a smaller memory footprint than the pictures my phone takes. On the front camera.
The original Elite was a fantastic piece of computer history, but that's where it belongs. If Braben can hit the same amazingness but with current tech? *THAT* will be something truly amazing. Do I think he can do it? No. That's why I'm not funding it. Do I hope he does? You bet your ass I do.
Power outlets every 3 feet. Network outlets every wall. Cable and phone in every room. 10 years from now they'll call you and say "Remember when I said I didn't think I needed a power outlet in the closet? Oh man thanks for insisting!"

Neither is America nor Asia. All are continents.
While we're being pedantic, America is not a continent.

And we've been happily dating ever since.
research has shown some GMO's are harmful.
Research has shown that some humans kill. What's your point?
Farmers provide cows with food and shelter for free.
I don't think much would change if I went into the office 3 days a week instead of 5, except the amount of gas I purchase.
And you'd lose your job. :D
Ah.

I still use it for that.
And because Google chat sucks so much.
Because the scum of the Earth doesn't mind ignoring facts while siphoning money from the stupid?
Seriously this sounds like an Onion article that someone copied and put on their site.

Where I come from, JIF is a brand of bath cleaner
Anyway, whatever happened to PNG
Where I come from, which and witch are spelled differently and sound alike and nobody has trouble discerning them apart.
And PNG is alive and well, but I still can't figure out how to make animations in the format. That is (all) that GIF is good for.
/pronounce it "jiff"
//also pronounce it "jiggawatt"
What would be great is a miniseries based on the second foundation series which expand Asimov universe and elaborated on Hari Seldons life and work.
No it'd probably end up on the CW and 90% of each show would be about who love whom more.
If you hate baseball that much you may be reading the wrong topic. May I suggest any of the other several dozen posted on Slashdot on this very day?

Not exactly the same.
"I left naked pictures of myself on the passenger seat when I gave my keys to the valet and he took them" is closer.
How long before we see a T-shirt with Mickey holding a light saber and the text below it:
Minnie, I am your father.....
Never, unless you happen upon it in the 10 seconds between when it's posted, and when Disney sues the everloving fuck out of the creator.

I know people who buy hearing aids tend to be older than average, but exactly how old is this person who thinks new cars cost $2000?
I don't even think those crappy 2-seater deathtrap cars from Korea are that cheap.
