Great, although when news first came out of a game being developed by Bungie called Halo... the PC crowd (including me were so happy), then Bungie got swallowed by everyone's favourite company.
I seriously hope that this PC/MAC version will be how the game was meant to be before it became an X-Buck$ only (initially) fare.. in that the dumbing down of certain game aspects to make it more 'console friendly' will be resolved.
This also reminds me of the Freelancer situation (or lack of it) that was previewed years ago, and the 'buy out' that M$ did, although it 'still' isn't out yet - I wouldn't be surprised if M$ thought 'hey this might be another game to repackage as X-Buck$ only, it MIGHT jump start sales again'... yeah right.
PC and MAC gamers will only be playing second fiddle to the X-Buck$ until it hopefully dies a horrible death.. but then again they're planning on the X-bucks 2.
Keep It Simple Stupid!
The more transparency to hide more of the detailed options from the users will help, especially considering I just installed WinXP onto a machine (as a test - to see what all the fuss was about) and it was a breeze.
M$ may make crap operating systems, but they do know how to make good interfaces (maybe I should have stayed awake during my first year HCI lectures).
But the option of hiding all the 'difficult' settings shouldn't come at the price of not letting the more knowledgeable user from being able to access those functions that are hidden, i.e. take WinXP vs. Win2k user accounts, hmmm lets go from multple user options to two -> 'root' and 'user', they hid so much stuff they lost it (a bit like their ethical backbone i suppose).
Remember guys, KISS!
Me and my Uni mates went to the Java Conference 98 at Olympia in London,
Microsoft had a nice large stand there...
But the funny thing was was that the M$ employees didn't look like they were having a good time (i.e. THEM vs. us), on the Sun stand they had mock adverts on a huge monitor that always made a dig at M$ in some way.
We also stole enough of their free CD's (to use as coasters of course) that nearly got us chucked out of the conference.
I wonder what kind of reception they'll get at the LinuxWorld expo... hmm, NOTE to all/. attendees, try and make them feel as 'welcome' as possible;-) he he he (a Catbert laugh)
Maxtor, or Western Digital????
Either a typo, sudden merger or most likely I've been under a rock for a long time.
