Interesting that they would choose two lossy media formats as models for comparison
Yeah, they're probably working on a lossy 3D format. Duh.
The fact that MP3 and JPEG are lossy formats doesn't have anything to do with this, and no, it's not "interesting".
If you actually read the articles you'd find out that it's a connection between the main board and a smaller board that's the problems. No solderings. Sheesh...
The registration code isn't burned to the CD. It would be easy to have the machines hand out registration numbers on slips. I don't think they do it though.
I think it's great that prizes like this don't always go to fancy hi-tech stuff. Like the article sais, this invention can and have changed peoples lives.
Nice information, thanks. One thing though, how the heck do they get the rings through the tunnel? In pieces? I mean, you can't move a ring through another ring of the same size!
You'd think the license plate number would be a better clue than the MAC address and IMEI code of the electronics, but what the hell, this is slashdot!
I really think this interface looks great and runs smoothly, but I've heard the phrase "[...] change the way we interact with computers" way too many times by now. Apple's OS X is the most "modern" user interface I've used, and it's still just a bunch of windows and a pointer. How much can you change in the GUI without confusing Joe Sixpack too much?
Yeah, if I were in charge of a successful company with lots of web traffic, 1000 bucks would be a reasonable price to pay to never have to think of domain name renewals EVER!
If you loose the name and have to go to court and/or pay the new owner to get the name back, it can be well over $1000, primarily because all the lost traffic.

Exactly. I've reported dupes and mistakes to the "on duty editor". He seems pretty off-duty if you ask me...
Eeeeeeww! My eyes! My eyes!
Because it's more straight-forward than installing MinGW/MSys?
Is it true that the original nebula images are black & white, and colored afterwards to look prettier?
How come Hubble can take wonderful pictures of distant nebulas and stuff, when the quality of these pictures is far from good?
Aha! Slow news day!
OK, OK, sorry, I know there are lots of people who think this is interesting.
It was slashdotted even before it went public! Or perhaps the URL is bad?

They are faster because they are less worried about the patient. You know, I'm sure they've got at least a couple of extra lives left.

Um, no.
I find this surprisingly interesting, perhaps it's time for a carreer change? :-)

In Soviet Russia, computer games shoot YOU!
Yes, you mean the SGI FSN 3D Navigator. Perfectly real.
"I'm sorry about Jar-Jar Binks. I'm so sorry. Oh, what was I thinking? Sorry."
Homer Jay Simpson :-)

Here's the top hit!
And lazy people love you! :-)
