should have read the RIAA's document on what they consider to be IP, http://riaa.com/MP3lawsuit.cfm. I myself think MP3.Com did no wrong but the RIAA is too powerful.
Hi big boy. How's the commute treating you? And your girl, is she ok? You know who you are...and so do I.:)
As anyone who reads/. should know, you can't put anything programmatic in a cookie (and that includes jscript).
Oh, really ?
Why don't you check this Cert Advisory then. I'll post a snippet for you:
Attacks May Be Persistent Through Poisoned Cookies
Once malicious code is executing that appears to have come from the authentic web site, cookies may be modified to make the attack persistent. Specifically, if the vulnerable web site uses a field from the cookie in the dynamic generation of pages, the cookie may be modified by the attacker to include malicious code. Future visits to the affected web site (even from trusted links) will be compromised when the site requests the cookie and displays a page based on the field containing the code.
There have been numerous examples given on how to exploit this. They all involve inserting javascript code into a cookie.
But I keep forgetting -- this is Slashdot, where "the truth is irrelevent, you will be assimilated".
nice. attack the messenger rather than the message. based on Microsoft's history, any reasonable person would be dubious of the notion that Microsoft's Reseach labs are truly free and share all their findings.
So remember, when it's legally possible, sharing information benefits us all in the long run. You can pay forward the debt for the information you gain here and elsewhere by sharing what you know whenever you can, by writing an article or book or posting on the Net. None of us learns in a vacuum; we all stand on the shoulders of giants such as Wirth and Knuth and thousands of others. Lend your shoulders to building the future!
Very odd coming from someone who now works for Microsoft, the company which epsouses the exact opposite philosophy. I guess we all have our price.
Don't you think that a company who pulls in an annual revenue that Microsoft probably expenses in a week should be more concerned about making money rather than giving away money?
Perhaps this is where Tivo would come into play. You could just pause the action, print, and resume watching the show. You have to know how to converge technology sometimes.
I will never buy an HP product. They do not have my best interests at heart. They have consistently worked with Microsoft to limit my choices. They have sabotaged Sun and Linux at every chance.
If someone can write such a simple virus in visual basic, there is *something* wrong! (Both with M$ Windows and Outlook)
Wrong. The power behind the technology that made the script so trivial is a good thing. The problem is the security model behind the technology that makes the damage possible. Remember, technology is positive when the creators put the interests of their users before their bottom line.
The real problem is Microsoft has so many apologists covering for them, they have no real incentive to put out great technology...good enough to get out the door is fine for them.
I don't know if judges in Seattle are elected but I wonder if the political clout that Microsoft wields in that area could have affected this case. It's clear that judges are not immune to political pressures, especially if they are elected (see Florida state judge who buckled to Cuban community...she was soon overruled by an appointed federal judge).
With Hemos posting to a link that doesn't need a login, he has effectively eliminated a cheap karma whoring opportunity. I am profoundly disturbed by this action and call on all my fellow netizens to boycott slashdot. Taking away karma whoring opportunities from us is akin to taking our lives.
Shame on you, Hemos

They always find a way to commiserate with each other and put down those of us (speaking generally here...) who are dicks.

It seems to me that these types of books are designed to milk us consumers out of our hard earned dollars. I always question novelists who commit to these types of literary deals. It would seem to me that a true novelist would be in the constant search for new life experiences to drive his writing. Rehashing the same story over and over would seem to as limiting as you could get.
As a rule of thumb, I refuse to read these serialized stories. I may read the first in a series but that's all. If the novelist hasn't gotten his message across at the end of the first book, it means he is either a poor novelist or looking to get his new yacht. I won't be a part of that.
f the judge's view is correct, Benkler said, then the Digital Millennium Copyright Act "does something no copyright law has ever done -- it extinguishes fair use," he said.
Fair use, after all is the crux of this case, regardless of what the MPAA would have you believe. I am confident that jurors will understand that this basic right cannot be abrigded.
Guess that pic must have been taken right after he got the 1st week sales figures for Daikatana.

He works for Microsoft research, which you'll note keeps all of its research papers online.
If you believe that, I have a nice bridge to sell you.

I was shown a link to AreYouDumb.com I gave them thomas.loc.gov. It just seemed appropiate and was the first site I thought of.
I tried to give feedback but there was an error when i clicked on that link. I'll try them again tomorrow.
