I don't know about Comcast, no Comcast around here. The local cable company is all HD, no extra charge, but only if you have an HD capable cable box hooked up with HDMI or Component connections. They'll upgrade your box, but only if you ask for the upgrade and lots of people don't realize they need the newer box. If you just hook the cable up to the TV, you'll only get the local channels (and WGN) in HD.
Personally, we have DirecTV, a Genie system with an c31 RVU unit on the second TV. These units support HD and SD.
No, they aren't, because you really need an outdoor antenna on a mast for that. Then you're back to just receiving the local ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS affiliates.
No, because they don't actially offer "SD only service", it's all HD now. The problem is a lot of people don't understand the varying abilities/quality of the various ways to connect things to TV's. To them they've got an HD set, what more do they need? Not realizing that they may need to trade in the old cable/satellite box.
A large majority of the market switched to HD. They're not having trouble convincing the market to adopt HD. They already did.
I know of people who have their HD set hooked up to cable and satellite boxes with RF cables...and then they stretch the SD image because they think they're not getting what they paid for.
I don't think you understand what the numbers mean. x50 and below (450, 650, 630, etc) are workstation kind of cards. Good for web browsing and regular desktop stuff.
I don't think YOU understand the target market or numbers. Workstations that do web browsing and regular desktop stuff don't need standalone cards, they use integrated graphics.
The x00, x10 x20, x30, x40 cards are for those who have some use for better 3D hardware than just browsing and "regular desktop stuff", but not enough to require a higher end card. "Light gaming" like Minecraft, some F2P MMO's or HTPC use. That's why those cards are popular amongst Linux users.
You are a PC gamer, you've spent years not using your thumb for anything except the space bar. You will have issues when you try to use the thumbs on a gamepad because you haven't developed the skills/dexterity to do so.
The people who have been using their thumbs can use those thumbsticks, d-pads and buttons just fine.
With large volume flash storage becoming cheap, far in excess of that of DVD and even bluray, why not use them as game storage.
Because mass produced pressed discs are still cheaper to manufacture than flash storage. a 32GB SD card costs 20 bucks, a 50GB blu-ray RW disc is 3.50
Games could be saved onto the flash drive, the hard drive or both,
Where have you been the past 9 years. You can, if you want, go digital and install games from PSN to a PS3 hard drive and never bother with a disc. On the PS4, games are installed to the hard drive, even if you use the disc. (if you buy the disc version the game will do a disc check on start but that's all you need it for)
The PS vita, uses a combination of pre-loaded games on cards, and games downloaded to it's storage.
fragile optical discs
They're not fragile, not if you take proper care of them. I've got 19 year old PSone CD's, DVD's and Blu-rays are even tougher.
and the space used for the optical drive can be re-purposed for proper cooling equipment that "modern" consoles clearly require.
The PS2 had a fan, the PS3 had a fan, the PS4, has a fan. They HAVE proper cooling, where have you been the past decade?
Console manufacturers missed the boat with this generation so console peasants will have to wait 4 or 5 years to get this.
Elitist PC Gamer Burgeosie are so out of touch they don't realize that they really don't know what's going on with consoles.
That's right, "northern" republicans, who later became democrats when the dixiecrats took over the republican party. Basically, the parties just switched names.
the KKK has historically been closely tied to the Democrat party?
It WAS tied to the Democrats. Even as early as 1948, the segregationists knew their welcome in the Democratic party was coming to an endl. the 1964 civil rights act and Nixon's Southern Strategy pretty much finished the job.
and amazingly enough it works (kinda) with iPhone headsets. (3 channel mini plug)... though the audio only comes out one side in an imperfect stereo.
1/8 TRRS mini-plug on the iphone headset? That happened to me, the problem is you don't have it plugged in all the way, there's another "click" further in. The jack on the DS4 has a lot of resistance so it's easy to think you have it in all the way when you don't.
A VPS is usable so long as you have an always-on Internet connection wherever you plan to use the service. For example, good luck getting started on homework while riding the bus home from school.
Really tepples? You're really reaching for an irrelevant edge case this time. Because I doubt even the ones with Windows machines at home are going to get started on their programming homework on the bus.
For that matter, what about students that have only smartphones, tablets running a smartphone operating system, and game consoles? Such households exist.
Eventually a call will be made as to whether edge cases are supported or even considered. It's probably a numbers game, once the numbers of edge cases drop to a certain amount, they get ignored. You really are too focused on edge cases.
While you can watch streams on Linux and OSX, you can't broadcast with those OS's, not yet anyway. Minecraft's built in streaming doesn't work on Linux either, and Linux users still don't have that promised OBS port.
You're telling me it wouldn't be quicker to google a page of tips for the game? Fuck sitting through a ten-minute video about how to click on a certain combination of buttons in some software
These days, tactics and strategies aren't just like "Jump towards the opponent and press down, down-right, right+strong attack" Games are more complex, with some things "seeing" things can help. It also depends on the game. It's not a all or nothing thing.
It's fun to be a back-seat starship captain, and many of the players like it too, as having an extra set of eyes and ears can be helpful for catching things you might overlook:
I'm a back seat minecrafter. Just watching guys randomly mine caves without any organization, or collecting wood at night...outside, or not having any walls just makes me scream.
Who the hell wants to watch other people play games when you could be playing them yourself?
That's what I said. But then I started watching a few streams. You can pick up tactics, skills, ideas from streams. You can also help out new players, or watch a game you're interested in buying. It has it's uses.
He didn't make that claim. All he's saying is that RMS is focused on everything BUT beginners when he should be also pointing out how Python's really good for beginners.
RMS focuses too much on the needs of the typical bearded grognard still computing like they were at MIT on VT100's using TECO in the 60's/70's and not enough on the masses
Hmmph, Xbox fanboy I see. The DS series predates the xbox controllers, I prefer the symmetry.
You also got the letters mixed up. If you really want to be oldschool you switch Y and X positions and B and A positions, then it's the layout of a SNES controller the inspiration for the PSone controllers.
Because most home use of PC's is for NOT doing work? The Internet made PC's desirable for those who before the Internet, didn't have them.
Sure there's always a few garage developers/wanna-be entrepreneurs/SOHO users, but they're a niche.

And these people don't own bluray players right?
Not usually, sometimes it's an upscaling DVD player, but that too is usually connected with a composite cable at best.
No, they aren't, because you really need an outdoor antenna on a mast for that. Then you're back to just receiving the local ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS affiliates.

tiny, over-sensitive

The KKK's been Republican aligned for years.
Jesus christ, I can't believe you wrote that. Not having a windows pc is no where close to being equivalent to THAT. Not The Same Thing.

It's built into the Steam client, and is primarily a private client-to-client "broadcast".
Reading up, it works like Share Play does on the PS4, except without the actual control sharing.
/me waits for edge case obsessed Tepples to start talking about game consoles that can't run Chrome.
And non-x86 Linuxes can't run Chrome! Would Someone Think of The Edge Cases!
I did actually check the site in the PS4 web browser, just in case Steam thought it was Chrome or something.
For others trying this: exfat-utils and fuse-exfat are in RPM Fusion
yup. I would say the vast majority of Fedora users use the RPMfusion repository, especially if they have an Nvidia card.
including the SDXC marking could be seen as inducement to infringe a patent by installing the exFAT packages.
you read too much into things.

I see "correcthorsebatterystaple" isn't in there, I'm surprised.
