As for IIS, its insecure because its default configuration is insecure and it is active by default. This has nothing to do with Windows. These are seperate applications. So to say that Linux is better than Windows because Apache is better than IIS is like saying that a chevy car is better than a ford because it has michelin tires instead of firestone. You dont have to run IIS or outlook express to run or administer a windows platform. In most corporate environments web serving is a very minimal part of the overall environment. I really dont see what the hell Apache being better than IIS has to do with windows versus linux. To say that a linux admin has to know more about the low level functions of the system in order to administer it is also a false assumption. Having to compile something every 3 days doesnt mean you know anymore about mem allocation, processor priorities, etc than someone who doesnt. People claim windows crashes a lot. Yes it does. Most of the time a simple reboot will fix the problem. When linux crashes however, code has to be recompiled etc. Linux crashes a lot more than you guys would like people to know. It could also be that your hiring managers at your companies are morons and your hr doesnt have a clue so they hire paper tigers and you get screwed over, but you cant apply that experience to a whole group of professionals.
Typical snobby Linux admin. You think just because you run some non-proprietary os that forces you to use archaic command lines to do anything that you are superior. The reason MS admins have so many problems is that 90% of the world runs Windows platforms, and therefore 90% of the "security research" is aimed at windows boxes. It's real easy to sit there smugly and say how secure you *nix boxes are when you have to deal with 1% of the amount of flaws a MS admin does. Does Microsoft produce more flaws in their OS? Possibly. But I bet if 90% of the hackers out there started picking apart *nix code the field would level out a bit. Just because you use *nix doesnt make you better or even more knowledgeable, it just makes you limited to 10% of the job market.
I can tell you why DELL's numbers are slipping. I worked in tech support there for almost a year. Their numbers are slipping because they treat their employees like office furniture. They change your schedule every month to god know what, so you never work constant hours. They force you to take overtime, often to skip your lunch. They base everything on metrics, and even if you make 150% of your goal you still get told to do better. You cant even get up to piss without the queue nazis hunting you down to tell you to get back on the phone. You have no insurance and no benefits. They fire people for no reason whatsoever so you have no job security. No one ever gets moved up or gets a raise. They tell you to do everything you can to make sure the customer doesnt get parts and doesnt call back even if the customers machine is a piece of shit. They basically treat their employees like animals and as a result they have an extremely high burn out rate. The only reason it has ever been good is because lots of sys admins and engineers are out of work in Austin and have to take shit jobs to survive. Now all they have is techie wannabees. It's kind of hard to have good service when your company is staffed by people who have no past experience and who only last three months before quitting or getting fired for not being a fucking call taking machine. On top of that take low pay and even lower moral and you get crap service. But take heart, they are planning to outsource most of it to India so you will soon be getting very technical and experienced people who are completely arrogant and rude to take your calls!!!

It basically says, if you are doing something wrong, we will take you through the appropriate legal channells to let you prove otherwise or make you stop. What they did was throw this concept out the window and take vigilante action.
And other countries don't. I see Arab nations killing and suicide bombing everyone who is not Arab. And you dont think the condescending French and Italians are the same. The only difference is that the US has the muscle to back up its mouth, whereas the EU jsut whine and complain. We live in the best country in the world. We have the most liberties and the highest standard of living. I dont think its out of line for us to preserve our standard of living, even if it is at the expense of others. Self preservation is the overriding instinct. Dont think that France or Kuwait or any other country wouldnt do the same thing. America just catches the most flack because we are the current king of the mountain so to speak.
