Kind of funny how sales of everything have gone down in recent years...IT's called a RECESSION jackass. I can't download a couch online but sales of couches have gone down to. It must be all those pesky file swappers that have made the entire retail sector decline. Just because your a media whore doesn't mean we are naive. Use a little analytical thought next time before you plant your foot firmly in your mouth.
Run debug about 30 times on your drive. If you do the commands right, it will write 0's and 1's on all bits on the drive. Overwrite them enough and Encase, which is what the FBI uses to pull data can't find anything. If you want to really hose your drive, run the debug about 20 times, then run a drill press through the spindles a couple of times and burn the drive. That should pretty much make it unreadable. Or run debug about 30 times and put the drive spindles in water with high salinity, run current through it, and it will oxidize the hell out of the surface and make it unretrievable.
You are attacking his argument by trying to overstate his premise. I don't think that he was saying explicitly, "when you walk outside you immediately drop 30 points down the IQ scale." What he was saying is that mob mentality is often a lot less sane/logical than individual mentality. See the Holocaust, any riot, fire at the Great White concert, etc. In all of these situations, an individual would most likely have had better judgement to deal with the situation, but in a mob setting, the actions of the individual are mooted by the actions of the mob. If you've ever been caught in the middle of a riot, and I have, you will quickly realize the truth of the statement "a person is smart, people are dumb." You can be Einstein, or General Patton but when you are caught in a mass of people your decisions are made for you. Unfortunately the majority of people are stupid. That means that when you are in a mob, no matter how smart you are, the decisions will be made by the mob, which will be overwhelmingly of less than satisfactory intellect. If you doubt the validity of this, go find yourself a large scale protest or sports championship "celebration" and you will soon realize the merit of this statement.
The revolution will be televised, patented, copyrighted, and rebroadcast with extra commercials. However, if you see the revolution without the express written consent of the media whores, then you will be lawyered to death.
PACs are merely a loophole to allow corporate lobbies to buy votes, disguised under the concept of allowing citizens to garner strength and numbers. You say Campaign Finance like its a bad thing. I take it you like living in a country that is Corporate sponsored oppresion rather than democratic freedom?
You mean there are actually other countries besides America? I mean sure, I knew there were some specks of dirts out there where shoes and soccer balls came from, and where we tested our bombs, but I never knew they actually had people and cultures. And you can find these places on a thing called a "map"??
I spent about 1 month there last summer. What was amazing is that Japan doesn't have much of it's own culture. In Tokyo everything was sort of a bastardized mix of American and Chinese culture. Out in Kyoto they have some culture and a lot of ancient shrines/temples/etc, but Tokyo is just like being in NYC except there are no beggars, crime, and everyone is Japanese. But as far as the music, movies, clothing, etc it's all western. Wadoku desaka eiga -where is the movie theatre. At least if I remember my japanese correctly. It doesn't do you much good to learn how to ask questions because most of the time they respond in Japanese which you probably cant understand. The kanji is a bit hard to memorize as well.
I agree, and that is why I am quitting IT. Its not worth all the hassle and constant reading/learning new skills I have to do for 30k a year. The sad thing is that here in Austin the average sys admin job only pays around 38k. What's going to happen is that people are going to stop going into this career. It's high stress, low reward, and low pay. I'm quitting and going off to law school next fall so someone can fill my "exciting and innovating career in the information technology field." A freaking dental assistant makes more than the average sys admin. We are some of the most highly skilled, technical people out there other than the hardcore programmers and we get paid fastfood worker wages. I can't help but feel that soon all IT jobs will be like glorified mechanics. The servers broke, send it Midus/PC. You can get the server fixed and a new muffler to boot.
then let them go. If they are not hiring american workers then let them move their asses over seas. Then they can get import tariffs placed on all their goods and we can start buying products from and American company with American staff.
It has something to do with poverty. The majority of blacks and hispanics in this country live below or near the poverty line. There is a direct correlation between poverty and crime. Dont kid yourselves into thinking that its the racist white man who put these innocent people in prison. They committed crimes and were found guilty by a jury of their peers. Blacks and Hispanics comit crimes at a higher rate, period. You cant dispute the overwhelming evidence that is out there. Is it becuase they are black or hispanic? No, its because they are poor, and it just so happens that there are a disproportionate number of poor minorities.
Or how about maybe people have some self control and not use things they know are addicting. I have absolutely no sympathy for nicotine, alcohol, or drug addicts, because they all know full well ahead of using these substances that they are addicting. If you cant control yourself then the government shouldnt have to do it for you. Drugs dont deprive anyone of choice. When you take that hit off a crack pipe 99.99999 percent of the time its not because the government or anyone else mandated it. It's because you chose to. If you become addicted then you knew full well in advance that was a risk you were taking and you chose to do so. You are responsible for your own actions. Not the drug dealers or anyone else. They arent forcing you to become addicted. If I stand on a ledge and get ready to jump, I know more than likely I am going to die when I hit the ground. Theres a small chance I might live but not much. I also know there will be a short instance of adrenaline and excitement. So would I jump off a fucking bridge for 10 seconds of excitement knowing I will probably die when I hit the ground. No, but if I do then its my choice. I decided. Same thing with drugs. Only a very few people who get hooked dont know the risks so dont give me that bullshit about drugs depriving you of choice.
Your argument has some validity but you are neglecting certain key points. Movies, music, art etc are a vital part of our culture and our lives. In the past these media were distributed by a wide range of sources and were available to most of the populace. Through legislation and anticomptetive behavior almost all media is now distributed by a fairly small number of entities. THey control what is distributed and at what cost. So what you end up with is a government sanctioned monopoly of our culture. Do you really want 5 multinational conglomerates controlling ever aspect of american culture and then determining what price you will have to pay to be a part of it? I sure as hell dont. But any independent distribution channel that tries to circumvent the behemoths are devoured by the likes of clear channell time warner etc or they are sued into submission. I have the right to do whatever I want as long as it isnt hurting anyone. 100% of the stuff I download is stuff that I would NOT buy otherwise. Therefor there is no loss or harm done to the RIAA members therefor what I do is not illegal. I dont distribute anything either. If someone downloads out of my media folder when I'm not looking there isnt much I can do about that because my P2P clients dont have a way to turn off uploads.
I love how they act like they are big shit because they claim that their hydra catalogs all the media on pc. Big fucking deal, Kazaa already does that shit for you so you sure as hell dont need to write a freaking script to do it. And then they claim their software uses an exploit to send this catalog across the wire. Once again big fucking deal, all you have to do is do a search of a users available media on kazaa and you get a catalog of all their files. This is not rocket scientist gobbles. You guys are a bunch of jackoffs, and no one is afraid of you.
Your argument has one fundamental flaw. You assume that if we download something that we would have otherwise paid to see it. This is fundamentally wrong. There is a lot of music on my computer that I downloaded because it was free. Would I have ever in a million years gone out and paid for this song otherwise? No. And I think this applies to most of the "pirates" out there. By your definition it is stealing if I download something and watch it and in return don't go and see it at the theatre. You neglect to acknowledge that I would never have paid to see this anywhere. Only when it is free do I actually watch/listen to it. So whether I had downloaded it or not, I would not have given money to consume this item, so no one is losing any money.
This is called collusion and is illegal. IN an oligopoly, competing companies cannot meet together and decide to reduce service and simultaneously raise prices. This is price fixing and it is illegal. The question will be, is there any legislator out there who hasnt been bribed into defending them, who will actually pursue a case against these monopolistic assholes.
This is all bullshit. I pay the damned cable company over 100 a month. 50 of that is for my cable modem. If it costs them 50cents a gig then I should be able to download my 100 gigs worth. If they think that there is a snowballs chance in hell that I am going to pay 50/month for 5 or even 10 gigs of data then they are huffing too much spraypaint. In an average month I download probably 60 gigs worth of stuff (movies, music, etc) This is the only way I can justify paying the 50 a month I have to pay. I also look at it this way, time warner owns half of the movie studios and record labels, so although I am downloading their schlock for free, I am still paying them 50/month. I think the bandwidth cap is an attempt to have their cake and eat it to. Still collect the high premiums but limit bandwidth to the point that downloading media of any sort is impossible. I bet when movielink comes out, time warner wont count the bandwidth to and from their servers. I guess I may be in a different scenario than most of you guys because AOL/time warner is our provider and not ATT Comcast. In reality this is also a bait and switch tactic. You bring people in with promises of high speed unlimited internet and you get them used to paying high premiums, then wham pull the rug out from under them. Anyhow, download caps=no more broadband for me. I'll just get a netflix account and fire up dvd copy pro.
You brought up a good point. No the police dont have any interest in protecting your rights. They have interest in circumventing them as best they can to make "big arrests" and get promoted. If a cop never arrested anyone he wouldn't be around long. After working closely with LE for many years it is very apparent that they don't give a damn about your rights. Your rights are just and obstacle for them. As for judges, JP's are elected and are usually the most lenient. Appointed judges almost always rule in favor of the state which ties back into the ideas about law enforcement. The only people who care about our rights are ourselves. Are government is owned by corporate pimps and we are their pawns or more accurately we are resources to them.
THATS NOT THE POINT. The point is that our American legal system is based upon the idea that people are free to do what they like as long as they don't harm anyone else, they are innocent until proven guilty, and that you dont search/seize/surveill or anything else to a person if you don't have a very very strong body of evidence to suggest that they were doing something illegal. When you start tracking the whole population because 2% of them are doing something seriously harmful then you are using punitivie punishment. Lets set aside the fact that the majority of terrorist are not us citizens, and we don't need any new or special laws to eavesdrop on them. I am all for snooping on foreign nationals because our constitution technically only protects citizens, but to carry this over to everyday US citizens is treading on dangerous ground. You can make a herd of panicked cows run off a cliff if your timing is right and people are the same way. You can make them sign away their life if you tell them it will save them from the eye of the storm. Add to this that in an average day, the average person breaks over 50 laws. If you want to live in a place where big brother is there to enforce every last nitpicky law then I feel for you. On top of this, many of our laws have been railroaded through by special interests, and 90% of the people don't support them, never voted for them, and don't want them. The result is they arent enforced for long (see prohibition). If you start cracking down on all laws and using big brother tactics then we may as well just reanimate josef stalin right now and make pol pot our vp. We can keep ashcroft though because hes already a fascist. I'll never know how a man who lost his senate race to a dead man, can then be sucessfully appointed to such a powerful position
just my 2 bits anyhow.
They know exactly what they are doing. They are selling their votes and influence to get money to further their influence and power. Most of these people are wealthy and the only thing they care about is getting more power and more money. They don't give a shit how some bs law affects us, because they are the power structure and they have money, so the laws dont really apply to them anyways.
Actually the department of Defense has many technical positions open world wide, and the pay is great. Go to google and type in dodds, this is the DOD school system. You will be working 8 to 5 wherever you get stationed but you have summer, spring break, a month for christmas, and all the local holidays off. You also get your housing and utilities paid for, and there are bases all over the world, so you can end up in some really cool places. A friend is in Japan doing this right now, and has been to China and will be going to Bali for the whole summer, assuming things calm down, all on uncle sam's dime.
Being 6'5" and 255 pounds, usually telling them to stfu and get off the cell phone before I bury it in their skull persuades people to turn off their phones. And they say violence never solves anything.
If all you let people have is single shot hunting rifles, then why let them have anything at all. The reason we are allowed to bear arms is to form a militia and potentially defend the country. It would be pretty difficult to defend anything with a single shot rifle, so it would pretty much be pointless to even have a weapon at that point.
You can buy a propane tank and bbs at walmart. Combine the two and put a detonator and you have a weapon with the potential to kill hundreds, yet you dont have to get a liscence to buy these. Criminals will bypass gun laws, because they are criminals. Normal people will just have more unecessary restrictions placed on them.
If you want to avoid fraud, then ask the seller for a home phone number that you can call and verify. Once you have this and have verified it, then you can track them down easily. You can forge a lot of things, but it's pretty hard to forge your address with the phone company. Usually a fraudulent transaction person will not be willing to verify a phone number with you. Also, be sure and make sure you get the city and state where he is located and call national information and verify it, to make sure he's not giving you a prepaid cell phone or pay phone. The extra 75 cents on your phone bill is good insurance.
