    Railroads and automobiles aren't fair comparisons, because they are essentially 'fixed-function.' Once you can ship things anywhere inexpensively, what else will drive railroad growth? "A little faster" isn't a fundamental change.

    Compare porn to blockbuster movies. For example today (Sunday) in the UK the BBC aired Indiana Smith and the Raiders of the lost Farq. Yet 20 years ago you would have had to pay unk-a-funk dollars to see this "Oneman-Hero-Skips-And-Dances-His-Way-Thru-Luv-Lif e-ETC" movie

    Today, like some West German porn from the ColdWar years it looks sad, flacid, hey not a million miles from vi!(and about the same age!!!)

    Never looked back, crashes less, feels quicker, couldn't understand the source code anyway so who gives a f*ck

    Access limited on CPU? Hmm you sure you are doing the measurments correct. I thought this was limited by disk and RAM.

    Likewise Excel can be a CPU hog or a disk hog, depending on what people are using it for, keeping lists of things or doing monster LP problems.

    How is the citrix server set up, does it contain all the apps and user data or is some off loaded onto other networked servers? I would suggest you need 300MHz of CPU per a user so for example 10 users=3GHz, say 2x1.5GHz Xeons/P4's, and at least one m/c to store user either user data on OR the applications i.e. seperate them to help avoid disk bottlenecks

    I also agree. Yes for a CS class this would be an ace way to write a simple device driver(you did say gameport right). It might even work if you didn't turn on all those server deamons that come with linux. I notice the firm sell USB sensors, why not write the stuff for OSx on a Mac? eh? not a real computer? Come to think of it whats wrong with OpenVMS?
