I don't really want to argue w/ you, but should the streets be dug up every time there is a technology change? Look at how much the need(want) for bandwidth is growing. Should every time a new infinitly-massively-aggressive-large-obscure-playe r-male-dominated-fantasy-dungeon game result in the need for more BW? Arguement bad this one is a, true...
I don't know if this show has been on already. But I was watching a CBC station and there was a spot for an upcomming show on violent content in video games, (I saw several screen shots of Counter Strike) and the effect on minors. I don't know if this show has been on yet, but if eneyone has had a chance to see it I would be interested in your input.
My personal feeling is that there is a rating system in effect. If I were to have a child of my own I would be sure to observe this system, and limit the time my own kids spend on TV and Games. Mostly because I don't really find TV has much content anymore. And as for games, me and many of my friends spent too much time on them when we were younger. And for the time we put in we really got nothing back in return (for all the fights I got in w/ my parents about how important hand eye co-odination is).
the one big thing that is preventing the Linux Desktop from hitting it big is the arrogance of many Linux geeks who, when confronted with newbies' baby questions, have the attitude of "If you're too fscking stupid to look this up on the 'net yourself, I'm not going to help you!" Turning people off, (therefore back to Windows), for asking basic questions helps nobody!
This is a real big problem for most of the people I know who are in the computer industry. It's the assumption that everyones free time goes toward tinkering w/ the computer. When in fact most people want a computer that they can check email, write some documents, and check out some websites. This is a message to Linux advocates; yelling, whineing, and putting people down doesn't work.
They are a danger to other plants though. On the west coast of Canada (and the US I would assume) there are Canola plants which were breeded to be immune to RoundUp. These plants have intermingled w/ the Canola that is naturally immune to the other herbicides that are used to kill the GM variety. So in effect a monster canola that grows like a weed and is immune to all the common herbicides. And this Canola spreads into fields where Canola is not the staple.
I was just wondering if the fully digital TV will be able to allow an analog signal. I would think that during the inital switch over from analog to digital not all stations in the local area would go over at the same time. For example I live in an area w/ 3 peasent vision stations. If two were to switch over by 2003 and the other from maybe economic reasons planned for a 2005 swichover I would think that there would be less viewers for the analog => less revenue to advertisers => less advertisers willing to use the analog services.
As the spaceship gets closer to the planetary body not much energy would be used up (just small orientations). To give the spaceship enough velocity to eject itself back out from the body would still require energy.
Totalitarianism is Socialism.
Not quite, totalitarianism can be any form of gov't, and socialism is not typically totalitarianism. In fact there are varied forms of socialism, Canada can be considered a socialist nation state by the US because it has a universal health care plan...
Well if your so worried about Palladium and ISP snooping, why are you not worried about Intel sticking a radio in every chip? Radio could be misused as well sending 1984ish information control on your little PC...
Now i'm not the best at US history but didn't the Massacre at Wounded Knee happen on 29/12/1890. And it involved the mass murder of 300 unarmed Sioux in an internment camp.
And if your looking for a book with such information in it I think the following should do, a neighbour of my read it and said it was very enlightening:
The Wild Frontier: Atrocities During the American-Indian War from Jamestown Colony to Wounded Knee
by William M. Osborn
I would be careful what you say, right now China has about twenty ICBM (missles w/ the ability to reach most anywhere in North America) pointed in the USA's general direction in case the States were to help Taiwan fend of a mainland attack.
As well they have they have positioned short range missles to target Japan and the Philippines.
It's to bad that like most countries a large military budget ends up taking away from the general population.

Hey, having caffine in a drink that you can see through is morally wrong.
Yeah, um, simple TV's are cheaper then a basic computer right now, and the whole internet applience thing never really took off.
