There's no real problem, this is just clickbait hype. Phones are lasting longer than 2 years, and normal people don't upgrade their OS. That's being spun as an issue.
No, the issue is that the manufacturers and carriers aren't upgrading the software. I bought my phone in January, it was released last October, eleven months ago, and the manufacturer (HTC) says it won't push ICS, and my carrier has been mum. I could install the alpha build of CM9 on it, and give up video recording and get "wonky" camera operation (according to the single dev on the project) - but I like having a camera on my person all the time.
And just because it's a non-profit doesn't mean it's CEO is making "phat stax." The one I donate/support most often, The Geek Group, pays its CEO ~$30K a year. People have to live - and I wouldn't want to try to live on $30K a year.
I'd be really surprised if there wasn't already a program that could reconstruct the music contained on an iPod, a program much more user friendly & "automatic" than mine.
Which leads to say, Iran, South Africa or Japan (or others, such as india, brazil, israel, the UK, France etc.). They all want nuclear power (or at least might want it), have no domestic source of the uranium, and they rely on someone to sell it to them.
What are you talking about? Japan has loads of uranium, the ocean is full of it and it's literally all over the countryside.
Well, one of the things to consider when comparing tablets, monitors, and TVs is the percentage of light hitting the retina. While monitors and TVs have more area and thus put out more light than tablets, they are much farther away. For example right now my 19" work monitor is an arm's-length away (~3 feet), while a tablet will be a foot, maybe less, from my eyes. So even though a 10" tablet has a fifth of the area, under the inverse square law I'm actually getting twice the light hitting my eyes. And TVs typically being across the room would then have even less intensity hitting the eye. . . unless your name is Frank.
Because they wanted to control the exposure. People use tablets differently. Different distances, different brightnesses, different sized font (larger black letters means less light emitted), different tablets=different displays=different wavelengths emitted.
The one in Colorado looks like it's nothing more than a scam, the website is full of "Buy my books about DC vampires conspiring with UFOs to lower the efficiency of AC by systematically inserting high-resistance elephants into the line!"
I agree with you on Obama/Biden (except I break with the LP about funding for NASA), but I don't really see your argument about Romney/Ryan being close to libertarian, excepting their disdain for PPACA. Care to elaborate?
Christians in Iran right now are definitely desperate, but for safety, not bacon.
No, I was going by the fact that Honolulu has the 4th lowest violent crime rate in the country.
I grew up in a northern Wisconsin city where the teachers stuck twice times in four years .
You don't say. . .
Depends on the city. What are Honolulu kids going to do, put pineapples in your chair?
MMO ET: Everyone gets thrown into a pit, and you need to jump on top of other people's heads to jump out of the pit.
That's not E.T.; that's New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
That's The Dark Knight Rises, too.
Drive a half-hour out to Uncle John's farm and go camping, fishing, and hunting every weekend.
While their tax treatment is certainly complicated, the taxation schedule isn't - you still aren't taxed until you liquidate the stock.
It's my understanding that there is no tax liability until you actually sell the stock, or receive dividends.
I could be wrong, though, I'm not a full-time stock market. . . guy.
And any country that doesn't deserves the invasion it soon receives.

THAT'S the damn problem.

There is. It's called uTorrent.

. . .
Too soon?
Or when the rain provides enough interference that you can no longer poorly piggy-back on your neighbor's WiFi.
I didn't realize they'd added that option - I'll have to give it a whirl!
Flashblock fixes the problem with Flash freezing. If I could marry it, I would.

Too small of a group, but an interesting start.

They're going to move these guys in.
Full disclosure: I'm already a member.
I agree with you on Obama/Biden (except I break with the LP about funding for NASA), but I don't really see your argument about Romney/Ryan being close to libertarian, excepting their disdain for PPACA. Care to elaborate?
This go around, I'm voting with the only party that even HAS a libertarian wing.
So. . . you're voting for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate?
Probably has the chief characteristic of possums and sharks, too: a bitch to kill.
I like coelacanths, and this shouldn't have been on /.
Well, the first half of the byline is "News for Nerds." We may be IT-heavy here, but other sciences do show up from time to time.
Not that surprising. I've seen the videos of the Foxconn factories where Apple products are made.
