  1. I see now on Dr. Robot Watches Over Home And More · · Score: 2, Interesting

I am not sure I like this,

In patrol mode, the bipedal robot acts as a home security system, scoping out your house for intruders.

These were called dogs. Sometimes they are known as the family dog to most people.

The robot uses the owner's home computer and Internet connection to answer questions or help a human shop online.

Used to be a local teenager called a geek, sometimes the child would be yours.

The robot can also upload everything it hears and sees to the Internet.

These were called little brothers, except the did not tell the whole world through the internet. Maybe they do now, I donna know.

It can also act as a personal digital assistant, reminding the owner of appointments.

These are called wives, and they can be more fun than just reminding your of appointments, *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*!

So basically you can replace most any person in your household with a $1,500 robot. I guess we really don't need other living beings at home.

The server room for hell was this place, it was an old government building that had piss poor wiring. I was called in to rebuild the servers because 3 out of 4 servers had somehow got screwed up. After fixing them, and making sure that they all worked and load-balanced correctly I was just waiting for time to pass one evening when the UPS started going off. It would go on like this for 1 to 2 hours in the evening and then stop. It seems that sometimes the outlets would just go wako and stop supplying electricity. It was so annoying that the support people who used the room unplugged the servers from the UPS and would plug them into the wall so they would not have to listen the UPS switching to backup. Give you one guess why these servers were getting screwed up and had poor uptime... :)

The thing most people forget was that alot of the modern industrial countries had to go through this phase to get to were they are. Somehow people believe(especially in the US), that the poorest of the poor countries should start at the minimum standards that we are currently are at, instead of realizing they ain't got no money.

Do I like the fact that these people are treated horribly, paid poorly, and live and work what we would consider a hell-hole, NO! The thing everyone seems to ignore is how to develop a developing economy. The two things China has going for it are cheap labor and are willing to ignore environmental controls, that is really what China is trading, no matter what they make

  19. Re:Got a letter from my federal rep this weekend.. on British Columbia Bows To Breast Cancer Patent · · Score: 1

The fallacy of this argument is that people will only do something if they are going to get patent. It ignores the fact ALOT of developments do not come from corporations as copyrights, or patents as intent to make money.

Look at how many people are into music, and theater. Most will never make anywhere near a living doing it, yet somehow there are hundreds or thousands of entertainers out there. What about writers, there are tons of people who write and don't get published, there are alot that do also. Most of them don't make a decent living doing that either, yet they seem do it anyways.

Hell, like at Linus, he was not dreaming of the Big Payday when he started working on Linux, and he still is not a multi-millionare and probably will never get rich off his work contributed to Linux, yet he does it anyways.

The people who somehow believe that the world would stop turning because there is not some corporation not making a buck off it are the people are the least likely to contribute and the most likely to pigback on someone else's work. They don't understand why people do the things they do, which is just because they want too.
