  1. Dance Dance Revolution on Americans Read Fewer Books · · Score: 1

One day, after leaving some of my CS classes, my friends and I noticed that a guy from our class was bopping around on that game. We all secretly had a laugh, and I secretly hoped I'd be able to play it some day. Two days later we saw him in there again, and two days after that, etc etc. What surprised me more is that this guy isn't a skinny shrimp like me. Props to Ed!!

Somehow I've heard that a girl had a heart attack after stomping around on it for a while. Yikes. Be careful, Ed!

Well, if that's the issue, then perhaps we should n't help others so much. However, I can't imagine telling my mom to "look it up on google". Even if I did just point her in the right direction I doubt she'd ever follow through. She has a business to run, little time, little patience, etc etc. I'm pretty much at a loss for what to do.

If she didn't have to share data with other businesses and used software that had a Linux version I'd switch her over to something that I can customize to be simpler for her. But I can't. So I don't really know what to do.

Hamburger muffs. Hmmm. Could do wonders in the realm of foreplay. Wouldn't have to worry about your girl accidentally biting your ear too hard, and it might actually give you incentive to let the foreplay go on longer than normal (which I'm sure many women would like). You could tell her, "you're not getting any until you've eaten all of my, errr, all of the meat...." However, this would be terribly detrimental to those of us with vegetarian girlfriends.

    Thank god for Morningstar!

  4. Re:Car vs. Maglev? on Virginia MagLev Project Back on Track · · Score: 1

What it takes to move people off the roads is to move past the 19th century workplace where managers insist on five million lunchpail-carrying peons crawling through the door on their knees to punch a timeclock at the exact same moment. That is the cause of traffic, pollution and waste from automobiles. Period.

Beautifully put. Of course, I don't think it states the only problem or presents the only necessary solution, but I don't claim to have those answers.

Mass-transit should be more pervasive; driving is such a nuisance. Seldom do I really enjoy driving, even if there is no traffic. It'd be great to spend travel time reading or thinking like I used to do on the bus to school. Also, think of the many individuals that would rather that they never had to see the sun. Humans are not all the same, we don't have the same habits, and our societies should be much more attune and flexible to this. I would enjoy the opportunity of shifting my activities (school, work) to the nighttime. Currently, it's mostly impossible to do so: banks aren't open at night, half of the restaurants aren't, nor are schools, etc.

This could possibly cut back on nighttime crime as well. More people awake=more watchful eyes.

as if they're really going to disclose whatever methods they come up with. does anybody know how the previous systems worked? i doubt it.

one poster said that most people don't know what they want, nor did he know what he wanted (in regard to issues like this). it's hard to know the approach that should be used to bring some form of increased security to the internet. i think it's safe to say that we all feel a need for more security, but i think most would agree that it should be in the aspects of data transmission and encryption (for credit cards, important info, etc), not surveillence. there should be some collective effort to educate as many as possbile about the important aspects of computing and the internet: security, viruses, hackers, proper use. no more tutorials on how to make greeting cards.

when it really comes down to it, no one likes the idea that someone else may know what data you're sending/receiving especially since we'd be unaware of its occurrence.
in regard to email/instant messaging: how can any external person not involved in discussions accurately judge the demeanor of those in the discussion? it sounds like i'll have to be much more careful of what i say even in private! will this be the death of sarcasm?

  10. potential of mozilla development on Creating Applications with Mozilla · · Score: 2, Interesting

from what i've read in the past it sounds like mozilla can be used to develop just about anything. is this true? who has done it? what about applications? it's odd to think of a browser as a platform for application development. i'd really like to get my hands on a good explanation. perhaps this book.
