In other news NASA breathes a sigh of relief as someone has finally screwed up units in a more embarassing manner. When asked about mistaking current and voltage in the article, the news editor responded "Sorry I don't have time for questions, I have to drive to a town 3 gigabits over. It'll take me at least 5 ohms to make the trip"

First of all the article states that they measured a current of 40,000 volts. . . Second 40,000 volts isn't unreasonable, its current that kills. Lightning has a voltage 1-2 orders of magnitude higher, and people frequently survive lightning strikes. 3rd Ever done a demo with a Van de Graaf generator??? ~100,000 Volts. Watch out, hundreds of school children are in danger of spontaneously combusting!

If only there were some sort of method to collect this data and then sort through it. Some sort of Searching method, lets call it a "Search Engine" to track wi fi points and users connected to it. Heck maybe this "Search Engine" could then offer free Wi-Fi to make the tracking that much easier. Then maybe we could "map" these users on "Earth".

It is amazing the originality that went into some of the games back in the 8-16 bit console days. I think it'd be awesome to see some 3-d remakes of some of these games River City Ransom Legend of the Mystical Ninja Double Dragon Ninja Gaiden Super DodgeBall Wizards and Warriors I don't think all the originality is gone. I mean mods at least serve as a testing ground for new ideas for FPS games. I mean after playing doom->doom2->quake quakeworld team fortress completely blew me away. TF2 is coming, TF2 will be released The same will happen with this generation of games after we get past the eye candy phase.I still think my favorite fps has to be Duke Nukem 3D, there was humor, great levels (Shop n Bag anyone) and even attitude. BTW anyone remember the nintendo game "gotcha!" (that has to be the first FPS even though it was a side scroller)

I have more than enough USB ports on the computer that i recently built. Maybe i missed something but whatever happened to the daisy chaining that USB promised when it was first introduced. If I recall correctly, theoretically 128 devices could be connected to a port. When i first heard about the standard i assumed that you wouldn't need a hub to connect devices, I thought that each would have a pass-through.

Did peripheral makers screw up by not including the "pass through"?
I just am tired of all the wires going into my pc. Maybe I never fully jumped on the USB bandwagon, but who needs 6 simultaneous usb connections. (printer, scanner, camera, joystick, dig camera, etc. USB is hot swappable; if you just put 2 on the front most people won't mind unconnecting a camera for a joystick. 4(2 front 2 back) makes some sense to me, front ports are convenient, but why the extra?

  20. We make a lot of assumptions on Drake on Drake: ET Life A Certainty · · Score: 2, Interesting

It has been brought up several times that an advanced civilization would have propagated throughout our galaxy. It is important to keep in mind the size of our galaxy. I have been brought up believing in the unlimited nature of technology, but what if it really is impossible to travel at speeds greater than or close to c? Using the technology from our sci-fi it is easy to spread throughout the galaxy; but if warp drives and jumping through wormholes isn't feasible, how far is it worth exploring? Another interesting thought, if another civ has advanced to the point of interstellar travel, then clearly their tech is WAY beyond ours. Its pretty cocky to think that we could detect them, we just got to the point where we can detect radio waves (just a little over a hundred years) Perhaps they don't want us to detect them, maybe they don't want to interfere. Maybe they do interfere and we just aren't aware. Just a long shot analogy here, but are ants cognizant of our lawnmower or if we dropped food. We may only be ants in comparison to a an alien race that has mastered interstellar travel.
