"Those that survived developed an immunity to AIDS and its variants. If this theory holds true it may explain why some humans who are repeatedly exposed to HIV don't get sick."
How do I find out whether I am one of them? Russian roulette?
Imagine yourself going through a bad neighborhood and you notice couple of guys acting rather unruly, wouldn't you make a note of those guys and stay away from them in the future? Is that prejudice?
This database can very well looked at as a collective memory of the cops who have such mental notes
I disagree, electronic voting system is up and running in India where only 60% of the popluation has education. I don't understand why the US is not adopting to electronic voting.
Most of the voters there have never touched a computer their whole lives..on ther other hand most Americans have some sort of computer interaction. Electronic voting would be the best solution to loose hanging chads...I am sure atleast Gore will be pleased!
and one more thing....... Do you how many people (particularly the women crowd) are crazy about kids? Are you gonna ask them to quit having kids? You can't even ask someone to quit smoking..all you can do is put a warning label on it.
Well..you are talking in individual terms!. Think of the whole world as a closed system with population a variable...now think about the analogy of your girl friend asking you to be at 7:00 and asking the whole population to slow down? How many care?
You always have a an option of not showing up at 7:00 if you don't like your girl friend.
The concept of a country would soon raise moral problems.
How long can the US hold in it's resources while other countries starve? this may not be true right now...but in 20 years this would definetely be the case.
will the US let it's citizens live their grand life styles or share and become average?
This sounds straight out of star trek. Is what they claim is really true? Kinda hard to believe for me. If this is true, why isn't anyone talking about it other than in slashdot ????
Slashdot these days freaks me out on a daily basis..:)
There's no sign of Dijkstra on CNN....but it ran a headline about a dog caught in the sea for nearly a week, a month ago...what's wrong with this world?
The followin are the reasons to have a floppy drive:
1) You are a geek and you know how to flash the bios.
2)you like the sound of a spining floppy.
3)you like the thrill and the excitement when you try to access your floppy and you get the message "abort, retry, ignore"
4) You have no idea what a cd-rw is..or too poor to buy one..
The whole scheme looks like a way to store information and retrieve it..rather than creating intelligence.
Bits and pieces of botmasters intelligence tucked away in a big database and showed off when asked the right question.....
Dr. Wallace could have pulled off a good data retrival system...or.... redefined intelligence.
This raises the question as to how original and unique is a human's mental database?...are we just repeating things we collected here and there?
Does that constitute intelligence?
The only way to answer this is to really figure what intelligence is all about....
Dr. Wallace may be right or wrong with equal probability....
Is anybody worried about the saturated fat that comes along with the vegetable oil..? Think of all the money you have to spend on by-pass surgeries on your engine....
maybe it's stuck forever :)

I do like startrek but sometimes it stirs a feeling of dejavu
In a similar story M$ puts billion bugs per OS
You left out memory slots -- I would give it a 1 those are a real pain in the neck.

This is going to give "lightning fast internet" a new meaning.

Looks like the cops misunderstood the movie "Minority" report.

Man you are stirring me up...the only place population control has worked is in china which is well known for its human rights violation.
People there get punished for extra kids!!!
One more thing....I don't think it's no longer sufficient to have fewer kids...the only thing that would slow it down is ...no kids at all!!!!
Simple geometric propagation my friend.

Popoluation is not a controllable thing! To ask a person to have fewer children is to deny him the basic human right to self propagate.

Fav quote: " The dinosaurs aren't here because they didn't have a space program" I dunno who said this...but seems reasonable to me.

Don't we all spend enough time before computers already?
If MS can implement a way to forcefully remove instances of windows associated with programs running as localsystem, the problem maybe solved.
I don't think a guest user is intended to modify a localsystem process anyways, then why give the guest user a GUI to do so?
