    The policy (afaik) does not specify Linux. This in no way prevents Microsoft from participating. All they need to do is open up their source and use open standards.

    No one is forcing MS to open their source or comply with standards. It's their choice. If Massachusetts requires Open Source/Open Standards, even SCO can bid on projects. All they need to do is open up their source.

    Where in Mexico are you located? Mexico City? I am thinking of spending some time in Mexico (6 months to a year? maybe longer if I like it) and I am curious about the infrastructure in different areas. One of my choices is San Luis Potosi. Is broadband cheap and easily available there?

    But someone could make KDE support Hindi by either doing it themselves or paying someone to do it themselves. It's Open Source.

    In the case of Israel, MS was offered money to add the support. Since it's proprietary SW, there is no way for anyone to do it his or herself. MS turned down the bespoke project. AFAIK, they never said, "Sorry, we'd need more money." They basically said fsck off, we're busy.

    Now it's your turn to be sarcastic. =) I just checked my system prefs, and you can tap on the pad for a click, but not a control click.

    Thing is, I know I saw someone doing this on a powerbook, so they must have had some third party utility to do it.

    I'm a long time Apple user, and I LOVE Alienware. If I was going to get a high powered x86 box, I'd go with Alienware. Yes, it's the cute case. But more than that, it's the attention to detail and design. Alienware is the most Apple-like of the x86 vendors.

    Generally, macs are easy to upgrade. Howeverm because of the really radically new architecture that the G5 uses (as compared to the arch of the G4 and earlier macs), I don't think there will be G5 upgrades for the G4s. But who knows? These upgrade companies are pretty clever.

    You are 100% correct. Avid is the professional standard. Personally, I use and love FCP, and FCP has taken away a major segment of the mac market from Avid.

    OT: I hear really good things about Vegas; I'd really like to try it one of these days. I loathe Premiere.

    You're right. I forget how lucky I am having two Apple Stores within a couple of miles of me. One in a high traffic mall (Glendale), one in a high traffic trendy shopping area (Pasadena).

    So, it's easy for people in my area with even MILD curiousity, but obviously it's more difficult for others.

    This analogy is bad on so many levels. Crystal Meth is not released under any sort of license. The Crystal Meth Foundation won't come after you for failing to abide by this non-existant license.

    If you begin to include "Free Crystal Meth" with rental or purchase of your property. . . .Well, I guess that would be OK with proprietary Meth.

    A person buys up properties that are documented to house meth labs If they don't remove those meth labs right away, you don't think they bear any responsibility?

    Linksys didn't OWN the software. Thus not one penny of Cisco's money went to paying for the software. And I don't believe that Linksys lied to them about using embedded linux. It was common knowledge.
