I wonder if you can turn this to your advantage. When it's your turn to buy a round, shake your head sadly, and tell them how you're still saving up to buy MS Office.
You have my partial agreement. KDE and Gnome can't just match windows, they have to blow it out of the water. Not sure what the break through will be, but it will come sooner or later.
When I switched from Winders to Mac OS, it was because I felt that the Mac experience blew windows away. That was years ago, when System 7 really was that much better than Windows 3.1. I understand that MS caught up to Apple in many ways, but I was getting too deep into video work to really give Windows consideration. From what I understand, XP is a huge improvement, but OS X has leapfrogged it.
Personally, I think the greatest threat to OS X will come from KDE and Gnome as they mature, not from Longhorn.
>Window-shopping at an Apple store requires the buyer to consider Apple seriously before they are given the sales pitch to convince them to do so.
Naw, it just requires enough curiousity to stick your nose in the door and fart around with the machines. They don't screen people at the entrance for commitment.
Well, the main skill set that seperates a secret tech tutor from your typical slash dotter is people skills. I'm not talking about ass-kissing. I'm talking about being able to empathize with the person you are training and gearing the information to his or her cognitive style.
The minute a worker takes home a windows laptop, it becomes an unknown vis-a-vis network security.
Historically, IT staffers have been pretty unhelpful to Mac users. This is in general; there are always those wonderful exceptions. How many corporate mac users have had to do their own tech support, because of the unwillingness and/or ignorance of the IT staff? Thankfully, this hasn't been too difficult to do, since Macs tend to be more trouble free for the user.
This situation does seem to be changing, with the advent of OS X and with linux making great strides in the workplace. (Maybe that's because the type of person who will take the trouble to learn linux will also be willing to pick up on the ins and outs of another OS.)
And apparently, your screw is a little too tight, although you should be excusedm since the article is having "availability issues".
He asked his IT dept. for accomadations, but, understandably, they weren't able and/or willing to help him. Also, he didn't really know what he was doing, or how to go about it.
And it worked anyway. He had to try a lot of different things, and he's not even sure how he got it to work, but it works. That's Macintosh and OS X for you.
I agree with the spirit of what you said, but I think that "bullshiting your way to a 6 page term paper about nothing helped your writing and spelling skills. Compare your comment to the vast majority of/. comments and you'll see there was some utility.
Perhaps the ideal method would be to teach boys (and girls) to write about subjects they care about.
Shit, dude, I don't know what sort of third world war-torn hell hole you live in, but over here, we are constantly buying all sorts of crap, most of wich we don't really need.
Thank you, AC, for pointing this out. I used to think you were an dumbass. I mean, so many of your posts are incredibly stupid. But this one time you are wise, and all the other people, who probably didn't even RTFA, are the dumbasses.
Maybe we should do a study on why/. dumbasses don't RTFA and why you, AC, get such a bad rap.
It's really not too bad if one window is your canvas and one is for palettes. It was frustrating in FCP, though, because when you had the timeline spanning two monitors, it got wonky. Thankfully, I got a really good deal on a refurb 22" Apple Cinema Display.
Incorrect. You bought stolen property. That property is now forfeit to the rightful owner, who is NOT you. Analogy holds up.
So, you're saying that the TCO is that much higher for Dells? =)
And now you've bitten down hard on the troll.
I wonder if you can turn this to your advantage. When it's your turn to buy a round, shake your head sadly, and tell them how you're still saving up to buy MS Office.
If windows is so good, why don't you hear more dual-booters saying windows is their primary OS?

That's Total Cost of Onanism.

>Adobe Premiere is industry standard software -- the PC project will look just as good as the Mac project.
You wouldn't know a jkl if it bit you on the ass.
To start with, you might shower, get a haircut, and do something about that attitude.

>But Apple will be sad)
I read this out loud to my dog in my most plaintive voice. =)
How long has "beleaguered Apple" been dying now? Has it already been 10 years?
Dear Sweet Jesus,
I humbly beg of Thee,
Protect me from Thine Followers.

The submit button doesn't work in Safari, either. Is it really that hard to make a submit button that is cross browser?

Great explanation! I wish I had mod points. MOD PARENT UP!
Seeing as how NEC-Mitsubishi and ATI sponsored/participated in the study, the motivation was probably to sell more monitors and graphics cards.

You didn't tell me what it is yet.
