Yeah, that's the trade off. Do you want higher performance or lower power consumption? I would hazard a guess, and say that the majority of laptop buyers want lower power consumption. Those that want performance can upgrade at the time of purchase or sometime in the future.
Most of the time, my 5400 rpm drive is fine on my laptop. When I want performance (say for video editing), I'm most likely to be somewhere where I can plug in to the wall, and use a higher performance, higher capacity firewire drive for my media.
What is important to me is larger capacity. The 100 GB HD on my PB just isn't going to cut it in the near future. So, I'm really looking forward to seeing more HDs that use that perpendicular magic.
I like it just fine and it doesn't bother me in the least. One of my favorite little bits is when something explodes in space, a piece of debris hits the camera, knocking it off axis. Great stuff! They've only done this twice, AFAIK, once in the miniseries and in the season 2 finale.
I also cracked up with the way they handled the Lucy Lawless documentary about life aboard Galactica. They had to use these big honking scan lines on all the documentary footage to differentiate it from the rest of the show and give it that low resolution ENG look.
Anyway, my guess is that the people the most upset with the Cinema Verite style probably spend the vast majority of their time sitting down, so any sort of natural movement is deeply upsetting to them. It probably brings back traumatic memories of gym class, i.e., the last time they were physically active.
Hell, I'm a republican - just wish Bush and many others were as well. Judging most of the actions of most of the republican incumbents in office, all branches (as well as State) seem to forget what "small government" is all about.... Why would the other side be any different?
As a Republican, I actually think we were better off under Clinton than we are under Bush*. Obviously, Bush is one of the worst presidents we've ever had, but the Republican controlled congress only exacerbates the problem, instead of acting as a check on the Bush administration. I'm definitely going to vote democrat in the upcoming Congressional Election.
No it isn't, and the people who parrot the "we're a republic, not a democracy" cliche are elitist authoritarians who understand little about history or government.
Either that, or they're your typical slashdot idiot who learned all of life's important lessons from Civ 2.
Not to mention that it makes it considerably easier to get ordinary citizens to testify against one another. We'd be happy to drop the streaming charges, or allow you to plead guilty to a reduced charge (with a lighter sentence) if you'll help us out in the matter of that neighbor/coworker/family member that has been criticizing the government.
It's not even a full step from that to where we're all spying and informing on one another.
In Soviet Russia . ..who the fuck are we kidding? We're over halfway there to Soviet America.
The major problem, of course is that Aperture originated within Apple. Name a great piece of Apple software (OS X, FCP, Shake, iTunes). It was brought in from elswhere and given a pretty face.
I read an interview a few years back of Jeff Robbin, the lead developer of both SoundJam and iTunes. What I remember reading was that he claimed that iTunes was a total rewrite from scratch, and that very little code from SoundJam was reused, basically just some strings in the resource fork, etc.
I agree that charging for QT Pro is lame, but I think all pro applications that rely on you having QT Pro provide a key to unlock the pro capability. As such, I've never needed to pay for it.
When asked to comment on Ballmer's move to Borland after he fired him, CEO Ballmer screamed, "I'm going to fucking bury that guy!", and then threw a chair across the room.
Your ignorance of the music industry is pitiful, and your insistence on communicating incorrect information as fact leads me to believe there is something wrong with you. Are you intentionally trying to mislead, or do you have an inability to admit that you're wrong when you clearly are wrong? Don't bother answering, I don't really care.
It's even worse than that! I just checked with my "Hollywood sources", and apparently a novelization of the prequel is already available, even before the prequel has been filmed!
Certainly the modern world, our dystopian society, is a major part of all this. But I don't know that a chronically, clinically depressed person would want to wait for society to get fixed as a means of addressing their suffering. At the same time, however, perhaps it would be wise for such a person to at least partially disengage from the more corrosive aspects modern civilization (as we know it).
I have a friend who contends that the reason that everyone isn't depressed is because they're all delusional. =)
Sure, there *are* rambling homeless people, depressed people and confused people out there, but hasn't this always been the case? Or is the general consensus that it happens more often now and needs treatment?
Your ignorance about the suffering of the mentally ill is quite charming. You might as well as, "Why don't the clinically depressed just cheer up?" Someone undergoing a major and debilitating depression isn't "a bit off" nor are they merely eccentric oddballs.
I'm sorry if this is a bit harsh; I believe you are sincere and that your questions, as you say, are honest. However, if you are honestly curious about mental illness, you might want to get a college textbook on abnormal psychology and read up on it. You are not going to get much light shone on your ignorance in the comments section of slashdot.

Because nobody else understands you like your computer does?
Last time I checked, it was hard to post on /. with your browser closed.
Well, it was hard, anyway. Really hard. Hard as steel.
I want news, not sensationalism. Drop the misleading headlines and transparent opinion pieces.
If you don't like slashdot, why not just come out and say it?
News Safe For Work?
(Good god, it's page 3, what did you expect?)

Wait a minute! Hold it!
You mean Starbuck was a male in the original? Man, that's weird. But why call him Starbuck? Why not Stardoe?
Or is Earth the long lost wandering tribe in the Milky Way/Desert?
Bingo. Earth is the mythical 13th tribe/colony.
I agree with Ralph, rent the mini-series/pilot DVD. BSG is the best TV I've seen in years.
Actually, legislating morality does work . . . . if what you're trying to do is get votes from the Religious Right.
Hell, I'm a republican - just wish Bush and many others were as well. Judging most of the actions of most of the republican incumbents in office, all branches (as well as State) seem to forget what "small government" is all about.... Why would the other side be any different?

*What we really need is another Reagan.
Senator USS Nimitz is an incombent? That is astounding news! I had heard that he was merely in the hounds of the cooperatives.

Best laugh so far today!
Ahhhh, Joe Frank.
I wish he'd get his stuff on iTunes. I've been listening to his stuff since the mid 80s. The Rent-a-Family series was fantastic.
And if you're really ugly, it would also be a Facecrime.

Check you Applications directory and see if you've got OmniGraffle installed. I think the standard version comes bundled with shipping Macs.
The pro version supports visio xml.
