Speaking of the original iPod, didn't it cost roughly the same price as the internal hard drive did to consumers? (That was what, $399?) Seemed like a pretty good price]\ all things considered. (And yes, I know that Apple likely got the HDs at a cheaper price.)

Hrmm, I don't really see this happening because the average user probably wouldn't run something like this on their Mac-let alone find it.
As it is, most users will probably only see (or care about) iTunes as their mp3 players...maybe Audion if they're really curious, although I haven't checked to see if they have any iPod support.
Seeing as how they now have a Windows iPod, there is less an incentive for people to buy a new mac just for the ipod, and I'm sure Apple knows this.
Yes, however Apple also has an amazing amount of buzz that comes with the product rumors.
I pretty much see it as a double edged sword. Obviously if Apple is going to die from something like this, then it should do whatever it can to prevent that. (I cringe whenever I see rumors of a new product with a release date right after another product was announced by Apple) However, I would imagine that I'm not alone when I say that I enjoy the suspense of keynotes, and the incredible surge of traffic to Apple fan-boi message boards with wishes, concept designs and so on.
Perhaps a portion of Apple's hardcore mac user following stems from the "wrapped present" mentality? (heh)
In my opinion, removing the phrase would make it neutral. If it had said something like "there is no God," then it would be endorsing atheism. (For what it's worth, as an atheist I'm against adding "there is no god" or some variation of that as much as I'm against the "under God" phrase.)
I agree that some things may not seem as well thought out, but the same could be said for almost any platform. When I tried my friend's Windows PC for the first time a number of years ago, I felt just like you. Simply give it some time and you'll be able to do everything wihtout even thinking. (As is the nature of learning new programs..heh)
I can't comment on the DVD player, as I'm running a blue and white g3 which doesn't have one. As far as the mice, my parents/grandparents have a hell of a time remembering which button to press when they use my computer. (I have a 3 button+scroll wheel mouse) I'd imagine that the single button mouse has saved me quite a number of headaches; and since OS X was designed to be very funcitonal with only one, it is still quite useable.
In regards to working slowly, I agree. It is great for beginners who simply need to go slowly in order to take everything in. However, I have no problem working quickly in OS X. (Same for OS 9, imo)
" He said a ruling against his company would "create a world of hurt," opening the floodgates for all types of suits, including contract and property claims from people whose domains are down for just a short while."
Or perhaps instances when the registrar refuses to transfer a domain as requested by the owner... grrr
I'd imagine MrBill just prefers the speed of firewire compared to USB. You'd be suprised how much longer it feels to transfer songs to an mp3 player through USB after trying the crunchy, kid tested...mother approved goodness of firewire.:)

While I don't know if it has been carbonized, it satisfies my OS X'thon needs. *grin*
As far as the original topic, I know way too many people that aren't willing to go to OS X until EVERYTHING they need for it works perfectly, without having to open classic. I too hope Apple doesn't do this. (Yes, i do see the message it sends to developers, by the way):)
A number of months ago my mother purchased one of those mini mosquito repellent devices which she uses while she walks her dog. There are two settings in it; a clicking sound, and a high pitched sound. Everbody can hear the clicking sound, but out of everybody I've showed, I'm th eonly one who can hear the high pitched sound. Am I a rare mosquito-human hybrid that is set to take over the world...or are some people simply more susceptible to these high frequencies?
fyi, I can hear it (and very often find it) the moment I enter a room , regardless of where it is.

Heh. Does anybody else imagine hearing "In the yeeeeearrr 2000... *slightly higher pitched* in the yeeearr 2000!" before each of these predictions?
Maybe I just watch too much Conan.
I'm afraid you're incorrect. Check out http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb. cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=001514
"My 1.25 is on a truck coming out of Sacramento. Estimated delivery is on Sept. 21."
"I recieved an e-mail confirming mine was shipped yesterday."
err...To clarify, that is not 3 seconds and another 4 seconds, but just 4 seconds for the entire process. -sean
Hrmm...
My blue and white g3 (350 mhz) opens the Terminal in 3 seconds and all the text pops up at 4 seconds.
Surely an 800 mhz g4 would be a bit faster. (Not that it'd bother me that much...)

Hi!
.mac becomes active. These are all free and arne't part of the iTools.
You said: "iTunes, iPhoto, and all the rest are still excellent programs that I really don't want to give up."
Perhaps I'm misreading you, but iTunes and iPhoto will not go away once
Sorry if I misunderstood you...
