No. It's deceptive. It tries to sell a product by playing on the naivete of the uninformed user, which is hardly "innovation," as you call it. It's good old fear, uncertainty, and doubt, deliberately spread to mislead poor schmucks into buying something they don't need.
iirc, the glasses from "they live" didn't filter out advertising, they reduced it to its base message. so instead of seeing a billboard for jooky, you'd see simply the word "CONSUME."
it's been like 15 years since i saw the movie, though, so let me stress the iirc part.
Rather than figuring out better ways of deflecting or even destroying incoming asteroids, I think we should improve our hyperspace technology so we don't blow ourselves up 20% of the time.
had my first (and only, after 2+ years since install) BSOD on win2k on a hot, humid day when i set down a glass of coke next to my laptop. i was working and then WHAM! BSOD! from out of nowhere. then all of a sudden warm water starts dripping on my lap so i thought WTF? and picked up the laptop. all this water started pouring out of the case so of course i clutched my head and screamed NOOOOOOOO. the condensation from the glass of coke had formed a big pool under my laptop and gotten into the case and shorted the whole thing out! tried rebooting, got another BSOD. not knowing what else to do, i gave it a few hours to dry off and rebooted it again. it's worked fine ever since. yay for dell inspirons (cha-ching!).
