Following up on their threat last year to sue the FCC over sanctions imposed, Comcast has finally filed suit, stating that there are no statutes or regulations that support the FCC's authority to stop traffic shaping procedures.

Traffic shaping is writing rules like "give ssh and http packets priority over ftp-data". This is good and something almost all ISP that care about good customer service already do. What Comcast was doing, aka packet forgery, was a deliberate attempt to disrupt certain types of transfer. NO good ISP does this, by definition.

What's amazing is that people generally are oblivious and think whatever Concast tellls them is ok and good for us all.

Might as well believe what our politicians tell us also.

Tried it and kept going with Linux. It was an interesting experience but I like working in an environment where the DRM isn't there because someone else decided I needed it (recall the broadcast flag in Vista issue?). Unable to configure the system as I see fit (unless I install a hack to make it work right). Unable to inter operate with other OS's because Billy boy decided how things should work instead of the committees they are a part of. And I'm tired of hearing that every version of Windows is "New and Improved", "The best in the world!" and so on. Better than crap is still crap.

My experience with the low carb diet has been great. I've reduced my carb intact drastically, reduced my sugar intact, increased veggies and protein and included minimal exercise like walking for 10 minutes a day. Taking it slow so I'm not causing other problems. In addition I eliminated / reduced HFCS intake.

In all this I've lost a lot of weight (over 30 pounds in 4 months) and increased muscle mass. I have a LOT of energy, headaches have gone away and I'm overall much happier. Not the kind of results I would have expected with this diet.

Then I read this article and honestly I don't believe it. Yes, there are bad fats out there. You're body however needs fats to operate properly. Eliminating fat completely doesn't work either.

(Yeah, I can't explain the "logic" either.) In the end, they lost the case and won some of the war by forcing UTOPIA to refinance their bonds and put them in a situation where they'll have to call city tax pledges anyway. UTOPIA will still be able to make bond service in a few years, but now they have the PR black eye of having to collect tax money to make it happen.

What's interesting is politicians like Rep. Craig Frank also helped make this possible. The restrictions they were putting on Utopia were not similar restrictions Concast or Qwest has to deal with. So that and two years of lawsuits made it far more difficult than it should have been.

A good example of why we need the internet to be an essential service. It's obviously important enough to take to court and fight against over and over again.

They are public services that are better off handled by a third party and not a government organization. Water and sewage are pretty much essential services that should be handled by the government to keep service levels high and not so much worry about the cost. Internet is not anywhere even close to being an essential service and thus is why it should be lumped in with arts and liquor as something that local governments shouldn't do.
