for a broken spine. The very first thing they said was they wanted to use cadaver bone for the fusion. I said "HELL NO. HELL NO." and for good measure I threw in a few extra "HELL NO."s There was no way they could prove to my satisfaction that the material would be totally clean and disease free. It wasn't going to happen. They would find a different way or I would do without the surgery.
That really torqued off the doctors, they acted all insulted that I would even suggest something like that but it's my body and I had the final say so.
They ended up taking some of the broken bone fragments and grinding them up then mixing them with some sort of bone growth solution to make a sort of gritty paste, like mortar in bricks. They filled in the mixture between the vertebrae and joined them with titanium rods and bolts to hold it all in place while the vertebrae fuse into one large piece. The metal stays in forever.
I know another guy that had a similar operation and but they used cadaver bone in him. He contracted Hepatitis C from the donor. What a wonderful gift to receive eh?
If you have to have surgery and have the option to avoid receiving anything donated, avoid it at all costs. I was lucky that I had the option to choose. I have no regrets what so ever for taking the cautious road.
What with their tracking and profiling from your searches and clicks. And now they will have you by the shorthairs when they are your ISP. The tracking details they will have are only dreamt of by Poindexter and his fanclub.
Seriously, it's time for paper ballots with paper receipts given to the voters. Otherwise there is no point in voting. Just stay home and let them put whoever they like in office, they do that now anyway.
Actually I'm not an Apple "Elitist". I'm a Linux "Elitist" to be specific. I'm just an admirer of the Mac. Not a fanatic. I really don't know much about them and rarely use the two I have as they are older and slower machines. I would like to have a totally modern and up-to-date PowerPC based Mac, I would use it fairly often for multi-media production. But for now, all my resources are tied up in beige box (AMD64) Linux machines.
Bottom line, I am very anti-microshaft and "pro anything but microshaft". If it isn't microshaft it's pretty much ok with me.
well whoever modded that as flamebait/troll is an idiot. I *LIKE* Macs. I think they are freaking excellent machines and the OS and apps kick ass..
I'm just saying that the move to Intel was a BAD move. It's going to hurt them deeply. Before the Intel move what was the OS piracy rate? Um, like maybe ZERO?
To use OS X you had to have a REAL APPLE. Now any schmuck can build one. As for saying it's too hard, ever heard of Maxxuss?? He just made it simple for morons and it's HOT on the torrents right now. OS X 86 piracy is a HUGE problem for Apple now. And to say people won't pirate an OS is stupid. How many people here have bootleg copies of Windows or have bootlegged it one or more times in the past? More than are legit I would wager.
Would I go out and buy a new Apple knowing it's pretty much the same hardware that any run of the mill beige PC is? No. I would have gone out and bought a brand new Mac if it had the legacy CPU and hardware that has been their mainstay. But no way in hell am I going to fork over top dollar for a machine that's not just the same as but EQUAL in quality (same Chinese imported crap) as any beige box is.
There's an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I'll buy a Mac again but it will be used. I won't buy any Intel based Mac. I'll probably build one though, just for the sake of doing it. But when I want a REAL Mac I'll find a used PowerPC based box.
OSx86 is all over the net now. Apple can now forget about selling hardware anymore. They enjoyed a monopoly in their private market before but they screwed the pooch with the Intel move.
At best they will become an OS and apps vendor unless they can come up with some really exceptional hardware. But basing their biz on machines that anyone can build with standard PC parts was a bad move.
Their days are numbered now. If they want to survive they're going to have to sell their OS to anyone that wants it and really make it shine way above M$ or Linux.
(I have 2 genuine macs and soon will have an osx86 mac:) )
Saves webpages with.war extentsion (actually tar files) I use this frequently to save pages before they vanish into nothingness, I also email them to friends and family and they can view them on their machines exactly as they originally appeared even if the original pages and or domain vaporize.
He had to buy an external for his notebook. He's 800 miles away in college and he doesn't call home before making decisions. He's not a technician or computer expert. He acted on information the local Apple dealer provided him with.
Please apple, please wake up. We will pay, lots of us will. But I don't want your desktop hardware.
Maybe.. I have two ancient apples and my son has a new apple notebook. His rocks. And I'll probably buy one of those mac mini's this year.
I would *like to* build a PC based OS X machine. I don't have any real problem with Apple hardware, but I would like to have a CHOICE when I do need to add/change some hardware. I wouldn't mind at all buy the OS and maybe some of the hardware too, if the price is COMPETITIVE and the hardware is good. I think it sucks to have to pay Apple $500 (like my son did) for a 300gb hard drive when I can get a perfectly good 300gb hard drive from New Egg for $129.
What I do object to is being locked into buying 100% of everything from one company.
Computers are cheap. Let people do their porn viewing in the privacy of their own home and foot the bill themselves.
I object to the public financing the vehicle for perverts to get a FREE thrill at taxpayers expense. These sickos go wank off in the library then leave the mess behind for someone else. BS to that. That's just flat out wrong.
And doing it where other people passing by, women and children for instance, that's very, very wrong. There has been a trend of people driving around with porn running on LCD's in their SUV's with the intention of other drivers seeing their porn shows. KIDS are seeing this stuff too.. The police in some cities are pulling these people over and ticketing them but I think they should be arrested, same as a flasher would be.
You want porn? Do it at home behind closed doors but don't do it on the taxpayers tab.
As for DHS intervening, good for them. They are law enforcement officers are they not? I'm sick of this "hey, it's not MY job" attitude everyone has now. A cop is a cop is a cop. Or should be.
And since the porn in the library problem isn't being handled I think they should simply remove the computers from the library. Let people go buy their own, they're cheap now.
"You'll install a camera in my house over my dead body."
Close. But not quite..
The appropriate response would have been,
"You'll install a camera in my house over YOUR dead body."
You see, in America we have guns and they ain't for duck hunting baby! The Second Ammendment was written to ensure that the COMMON PEOPLE would have the means (firearms) to protect themselves from oppressive governments. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights also DEMANDS that the people overthrow and abolish corrupt and oppressive government. Don't believe me? Go read it.
People don't seem to understand that WE THE PEOPLE are the employer and the government is the employee. We put these people in positions of power to best represent the common interests of all the people. They are PAID EMPLOYEES. They aren't doing their jobs. It's time to fire them all for gross incompetence.
The subjects of England (subject being the key word here) have no right to own firearms and they are screwed because they have no rights or liberties much less any means to overthrow their government.
He who has all the guns makes all the rules.
A free man is permitted to own a gun, a slave is not.
Why would a civilian go to space? The ultimate thrill ride? Certainly not for "tourist" reasons, there's nothing to tour up there. Kubrick's wheel is not up there and the ISS doesn't have the room or time to put up with camera wielding geeks.
There's no moon motels or other stop overs up there.
There's just simply no where to go except up, around and back down. And how long will these "tourists" stay strapped in a chair for their $250,000 ride? 20 minutes? 1 hour? 3 days? Really now.. Think about it. What's it take to orbit the earth, 90 minutes I think, CMIIW. So maybe you get to make one orbit and back home. All for a cool quarter mil. Nice.. Will you be allowed to take your own photos or will you be required to leave your cameras on earth and buy your photos from the gift shop at the launch/landing site?
And lastly, who will plot the course of these ships, through the millions of tons of space debris? NASA? I think NORAD keeps track of ALL space debris and coordinates data with NASA to plot flight paths.
Is NORAD going to allow these private enterprises access to this same data or are they going to "use the force Luke" to navigate the debris fields??
Man, this whole thing about space tourism is just silly. We're a good 50-100 years from any realistic scenario, if at all. Until Kubrick's wheel goes up and until we have civilian Moon motels and civilian Mars motels up there, there's just no good reason for civilians to be in space.
I'll just save my money and stay on the ground, where I belong, thanks very much. And BTW, I'm a strong supporter of NASA and science and space exploration. I believe it in 101% all the way. But this civilian stuff is just silly. After a few civilians get killed this half baked idea will go away very quickly. You would think that common sense would rule here, what after seeing two shuttles blow up and how many Russians killed in their own problems. Space travel is extremely dangerous. It's best left to the experts. We still have a very long way to go before it's perfected.
one thing that pisses me off is they don't combine shipping fees.
I bought a sata hard drive from them. $4.99 for 3 day shipping. Then I added a sata power adapter cable to the order for $2.49 and they charged me another $4.99 for shipping on a cable that weighs about 2 ounces and cost half of the shipping fee. And they just threw it loose in the box with the OEM drive in the peanuts. Didn't cost them a f*cking red cent more in shipping to throw that in like they did. I was PISSED and still am about this. They could have added like 50 cents to the shipping and that would have been fair but double the cost of the item? And an item that weighs less than a hummingbird fart? Come on....
Do NOT order anything from them on Friday and expect to get it on Monday via their "3 day shipping" promise. They won't even begin to process the order until Monday and it won't leave Newegg until Tuesday and if all goes well, you should get it by Thursday evening. That's damn near 7 day shipping. They should give you a better rate if they are going to handle it like that or at least tell you what to expect on Friday orders.
But, if you order on Sunday night you can get your stuff in 3 days as promised.
OTOH, their prices are as good as anywhere else and I've never gotten any duds from them yet. For the most part I like them. I just am pissed over the shipping fees and policies on little items like above.
BTW, I'll never do biz with Tiger Direct, they screwed me real good. I ordered a PC case from them. Tiger sent it to UPS. UPS told them that they weren't delivering to my area because of hurricane damage (which was bullshit, UPS WAS delivering to this area because I had a UPS delivery the day before) UPS sent the case back to Tiger. Tiger told me it was undeliverable and refunded my money for the case but they kept the $19 shipping charges. F&cking asshole thieves.
I ended up ordering a better case for $5 less from Newegg and Newegg only charged me $9 shipping and had it to me in three days. A much better deal. Tigerdirect can lick my dog's ass.
I used to order from Outpost (Frys) but with Newegg I don't have to pay tax and the prices are competitive. YAY! for out of state purchasing!
They promised to do no evil and now they bring Google to Linux?
Thanks, but no thanks. I'm disturbed by the things I see google doing. I don't like they power they wield and their "We are good guys, we just want to be your buddy and help you" olive branch.
All this nonsense about storing your stuff on their servers, their China moves, and so many other things they do. Google is a nest of parasites looking to suck as much money from the planet and take as much power as people are willing to hand over to them.
They are the next Evil Empire after M$. At sometime in the future M$ will buy out Google and everyone on earth will be screwed.
No thanks. Buh-bye Intel. I recently made the switch to AMD but I fear that will be short lived.
As much as I despise any product from China, I fear that some of us freedom rebels will have to resort to underground TCP/DRM-free chips. I think they were working on a new chip called the Dragon or something like that. I don't care about watching HD anything on my PC. I don't listen to music on my PC.
But I'll be damned if I'll be forced to replace all my stuff just because Mega-Corp(tm) decides that we all must comply and submit.
Freedom Fries and all that stupidity. It's all for our own good you know.
I think they should rename the new TCP/DRM chips the "INGSOC Chip"..
I've recommended to all of my customers, friends and family that they not even consider migrating to Vista unless they want to buy ALL NEW HARDWARE and suffer Draconian and oppressive restrictions on what they can do with their computers.
I also notified my customers that if they do go to Vista that I will not provide tech support or make service calls for Vista based systems.
I use Linux on all my machines but I have 1 XP and 1 2k box that I fire up only when needed to do over the phone walk-thrus. I won't purchase Vista. I wouldn't install/use it if it were FREE..
This won't help anyone, what with the plans to throttle services. All the talk about multi-tiered service and restricting/blocking content is heating up. Who will benefit from this? Only the few that can afford to shell out for premium services. Us little people will all end up with dial up grade service despite the fact that we COULD have better, provided we are willing to mortgage our homes and sell our souls for better speeds.
I hope the people drag the scumbag parasite profiteers out of their ivory towers and burn them at the stake.
Will we ever realize the full benefit of high speed Internet? Doubtful. It will be priced out of range of mortals..
"gimp" is also slang for someone who is crippled or handicapped.
http://www.answers.com/gimp&r=67 The noun gimp has one meaning: Meaning #1: disability of walking due to crippling of the legs or feet
Synonyms: lameness, limping, gimpiness, gameness, claudication
Could it be??
Personally, I've found gimp to be pretty limited. Sure, it can do a few neat things but for the largest part, it's pretty darn limited. Way back when when I was using M$ winders I had taken a liking to Paintshop Pro. As they upgraded through numerous revisions I found that out of all of them, I liked the 6.x version the best. I don't know what version they are up to now but sometime back I tried to get 8.x (I think) working under WINE and had no luck. I then played with it on a winders box and decided that I didn't like the newer version.
As for photoshop, I never cared too much for it, the price is insanely high and it's massive overkill and overly complicated for the basic stuff I play with on occassion.
thing always pissed me off. When asked, I would always say the glass is half empty and everyone calls me a pessimist. So?
MY take on the question?
The glass is half full - Optimist (irresponsible, unwilling to face reality, accept responsibility, unprepared for the future.)
The glass is half full - realist (sees the truth, accepts responsibility, prepares for the future NOW.)
When you have the "don't care" attitude (glass is half full) you feel that "everything is fine, stick your head in the sand and party on dude."
When you have the "oh shit" attitude you know that you better prepare for what is to come. Life is not a constant party, it's cold and hard and unforgiving. And if you KNOW that you are running out of water and don't do something about it, life will eat you. Darwin rules.
People call me a pessimist. I see my self a realist.
I'm already paying $60 a month for RR service, I pay a $10 PENALTY each month because I do not subscribe to cable TV.
According to the contract, I get "UNLIMITED" 6Mb down/450Kb up service for $45 a month, plus the $10 penalty for no catv plus taxes and fees for a grand total of $60 a month.
You want to choke me off to make me pay MORE to regain what I'm getting/paying for now? F*ck you and your Tony Soprano business plan.
You know, this reminds me of coffee. I have two coffee cans. One of them I bought 12 years ago, one I bought last night. Both cans are identical in size and shape and volume, both from the same company. The can from 12 years ago is stamped on the outside "Net weight 16oz." I paid 89cents for it. The can from last night is stamped on the outside "Net weight 11.5oz." I paid $2.89 for this one.
Same thing with bleach. Now you get a "compact" and "concentrated" bottle of bleach. 2.5 quarts of 6% sodium hypochlorite costs you almost $2 now. 4 quarts of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite used to cost you about 59 cents, just about 4 years ago.
Cheap, stingy, greedy bastards. I'm sick and F-ing tired of this less for more world. When are the people going to say enough is enough and pick up the pitchforks and torches and mob these crystal palaces and ivory towers and burn these greedy bastards at the stake?
They chip away at our lives, just a tiny bit today. And no one notices or cares because, hey, it's only a tiny bit. No problem. And tomorrow, it's just a tiny bit. And the next day, and the next.
When you allow the thief to rob you over and over, why should he ever stop when he has a willing victim?
These people that benefit from this, they make more money in one year than everybody on/. combined will earn in a lifetime. How many Rolls Royces does one man need? 5? 25? How many Lear Jets? 2? 10? How many homes? 4? One for each season? Hell, we can sell less for more so why not buy a home in every country? And a yacht and a jet to travel to them all!
And at the bottom, the little people grovel and moan quietly as they hold out their dirty tin pans for a smaller serving of gruel. Yes, life is good at the bottom as long as your gruel is lukewarm.

Boycott Vista.
"gimp" is also slang for someone who is crippled or handicapped.
http://www.answers.com/gimp&r=67
The noun gimp has one meaning:
Meaning #1: disability of walking due to crippling of the legs or feet
I tried to find the 6.x on http://www.oldversion.com but no luck.
As for photoshop, I never cared too much for it, the price is insanely high and it's massive overkill and overly complicated for the basic stuff I play with on occassion.
Ah, that's the capitalist take on it.
W and gang follow this philosophy.
thing always pissed me off.
/. combined will earn in a lifetime.
These people that benefit from this, they make more money in one year than everybody on
How many Rolls Royces does one man need? 5?
