Ah, yes, but released != introduced. If you want to be more correct, I believe it was released in September... hell, didn't NVIDIA 'introduce' the GF FX in November? ;)

Actually, near the end of the press release it's mentioned the shipping date of the Radeon 9700 Pro was august 19th. :)

Now I'm hearing similar things about the GeForceFX vs. ATI's three month old Radeons.

Minor correction, the Radeon 9700 Pro is actually 6 months old, it was released in August 2002. Check the press release from ATI.

P.S.: I accidentally discovered that the native command line interepreter in Windows XP has a decent filename completion feature. Without thinking, I hit tab to complete a file name, and it took me a minute to notice that it worked even though I wasn't using bash.

Kinda off-topic, but the Win2K command prompt also has this functionality, except that for some silly reason it's turned off by default. I think I used TweakUI to turn it on.

Daemon Tools is a Virtual CD-ROM that works wonderfully with copy-protected discs. My personal experience is that getting a game to run with an ISO + Daemon is much easier then making a perfect copy of the disc.

Also, if you need a good image creation software I recommend Blindwrite.

But how many game owners make backup copies of his game CDs?

I didn't use to, until my Safedisc protected Diablo II Play Disc started giving me read errors, with less than an year of use.

Funny fact: My four-year-old, unprotected Starcraft CD still works, even thought it's scratched beyond recognition. I guess those stories about protected CDs being more fragile may be true after all. Which is kinda funny, since that would mean the protected CDs were the reason I started making copies.

ZMatrix -> A pretty cool looking matrix screensaver / desktop enhancement.

ffdshow -> An oss decoder for MPEG-4 movies, much better than divx.com's offering IMHO.

ScummVM -> Play the Lucasarts classics on Windows 2000/XP.

Scilab -> A open-source tool similar to MatLab.

Other great ones already mentioned are VirtualDub, Mozilla, VNC and OpenOffice.

This makes the 17th time a Microsoft Web site has been defaced including the corporation's global sites in Brazil, Slovenia, New Zealand, Mexico, UK, Saudi Arabia and South Africa as well as six servers from their corporate headquarters.

Just a correction, in the brazilian case, Microsoft was not hacked. You see, www.microsoft.com.br is just a redirector to www.microsoft.com/brasil, and is IIRC mantained by Terra. And only this redirector was hacked.
