You are right a UMTS phone that takes a SIM card is almost always really a UMTS/GSM phone that works on both. It is also 3G. But a EVDO, CDMA2000, and EDGE (also takes a SIM BTW) phone are also 3G. EDGE is a part of the 3GPP GSM standard in fact. True though that GSM itself is considered 2G or 2.5G. The 3G is an ITU standard, but pretty much anything with certain minimum peak performance and that can handle data and voice concurrently is allowed. I was trying to be cute with a short reply. it's all actually pretty convoluted and in fact UMTS shares many similarities with GSM though a different set of standards.
I will only address your concern about Apple's motivation: I could imagine Apple creating an app store for OSX and Windows where there are free and low priced apps where the apps need to be approved (like in the current app store) and there would be advertising in the apps if the dev so chose so that Apple would get a cut of all the purchases and the ads shown and the dev got the rest. I fear that the RDF could spin this as a pro rather than con for user as well.
"My point is that FB doesn't think that's actually the agreement that Zuckerberg signed."
No FB or VC attorney has made such a claim that I know of. That said they may claim that later. This attempting to get the contract thrown-out is just one of the first steps in a LONG process.
There isn't, nor does it run from when the contract was signed. There is a statute of limitations on when you find out you have been had, that is when the timer starts running, then you need to act before memories get fuzzy. In this case I guess that Ceglia is claiming that for a few years he actually believed that he did in fact own that stake and only later when he learned of more VC, sales, and IPO rumblings did he get worried Zuck did not intend to honor that stake.
It gets stranger. There was a thefacebook.com created then, under this contract. A short while later Zuck created facebook.com allegedly using the same ideas and code.
See the img tag, there is no js, imagine a hidden iframe with the img tag for example. Remember that DNS tricks are going on, so you got that HTML with the img tag say from example.com, but that you got an IN A record for sasdfreercf.example.com to 10.0.0.1 say. There other random subdomains for 192.168.x.y etc.
That's right but here you go to www.example.com/foo.html and it contains an img tag to awdfwfrfwrfq.example.com/login?u=admin&p=123 and your DNS on the router has been poisoned to have awdfwfrfwrfq.example.com be 192.168.1.1, so the usual CSRF checks pass.
Unfortunately every now and then there are security flaws found in the CGI or AJAX scripts that run on the router. (Think admin pages that don not properly sanitize input.) And if you're running such an affected version, then even with a random default password an attacker can be malicious.
The other problem I see more of than whiskers post RoHS is cracked BGA joints. It is especially bad in equipment that is cycled often since the PCB and package have different thermal coefficients. The Pb allowed the solder to flex more, all the flow and corrosion issues have been fixed now as everyone learned the differences though.
HA! In some countries you need to be a member in good standing (yup this means paying up) of a national engineering body in order to be called an engineer, so your 'college degree equivalent' is no universal definition either.
Simpler than SSL just get a WRT54GL install tomato on it, then ssh in with the option -D1080. Then use a sock5 proxy with remote DNS. Only use things that use tcp (disable flash and java) pop, imap, http, and https will work fine. There are even builds of tomato with VPN but supposedly China is better about blocking IPSec so you'll have a hard time guessing how to configure the VPN before you leave so that it will work reliably from China.
No not all oth the paragraphs you quoted even "boil down to Youtube simply not liking how the browser they downloaded today, happens to play video." The embedding one in the second paragraph you quoted is a limitation of HTML in that there is very little in HTML5 to allow javascript to sandbox yet interact between objects and domains.
You're full of it! I work with pSOS and vxWorks realtime systems for my job. On the shelf in my office, the Knuth volumes. In uni, my papers were written in latex.
In fact there tend to be easements along the sides of the plat as well now-a-days (that's where electric and gas go after-all). One point is that the easement is usually not moved 15' how you said. There tend to be easements of three classes, sometimes they can easily say that one is no longer just for telco/cable but also now gas and electric say. But in your fence example it is likely a different situation not related to easement at all. In fact for the classes of easements along the sides of the property, they often allow structures such as fences to be built there. Of course you are responsible if the fence needs to be removed, etc. Most communities use 'the book' and just amend it for codes. The fence example is likely that the older books had something like no fences higher than 3ft 15ft from a road. Lots of communities have amended that to no fences forward of the primary structure and a slight variation on that for the corner lots. It's to make roads/driveways/sidewalks safer and to eliminate tedious surveys.
Also what if you ever live in a culture with a dim view of tattoos. It could lead to you not being allowed in certain places or keep you from getting a job. The only thing I would ever consider getting a tattoo of is my name on my chest and my blood type and severe allergy in a couple of languages on my for arm.

What if Apple intended to create an app store for OSX and Windows were devs could add iAds and get a cut? That prospect scares me.

If you put a SIM card into your 3G phone, then it is GSM. The term 3G has become little more than marketing rubbish at this point.

That was beautifully written.

So instead people watermark the images. I wonder why this is not done for videos.
