I'm sure it doesn't -- even when they were available for download (free of cost) I'm fairly certain they weren't ever freely distributable.
What's puzzling is why they're requiring that you get this stuff on CD when just a year or so ago (maybe a little longer) you could download it freely. $15.00 bucks on the DDK can't be netting them much of a profit, and it only discourages newbies who want to learn to write drivers -- more DD writers ultimately improve MS's market share. So why do this?
Technically, it is free, although they don't seem to offer it for download anymore and impose a completely bogus $15.00 s/h fee. Sucks, but you can probably scrape together the $15.00 if you want to do driver dev.
It's one of the first mice produced by Engelbart. Powered by coal, and made almost entirely of cast iron and oak, it weighs nearly 1400 pounds. A true marvel of engineering for its day!
I think this is true in some cases. After reading this on/., though, I've noticed that around 1/2 of the bounces (at least the ones I'm seeing), are either very generic, or have very little information about the scanner itself -- perhaps just a name (and not even a company name). I still think that most of this is just lameness, both on the part of the AV vendors AND and the part of the admins responsible for configurting them.
That's beside the point. The problem isn't that the mail blocking is objectionable. It's the idiotic reply messages that worsen traffic problems. The email can be blocked with the stupid "warning" being returned to a forged address.
My point (at least the one I meant to make) is that if the experiments with the slide scanner scope sparks an interest, one can go further for surprisingly little money. I'm not disparaging the original article by any means.
You can also get an actual microscope. A good compound microscope can be had for less than $220 used (check ebay or various used scientific equipment sites). These typically monocular scopes usually offer 3 objectives of around 10x, 40x and 90-100x, giving a total possibly magnification of around 1000x with oil immersion.
Want photographs? You can get surprisingly good results by simply holding a digital camera flush to the eyepiece. I have a few of these I did for fun here.
Yeah -- the early TCP stack was a disaster, and as I recall there were major problems with serial port handling. I used BSDI for my internet/UUCP/file server needs basically until linux kernel 1.2 came out, at which point I switched permanently over to Linux (Yggdrasil distro , I think).
A similiar mod was just featured on Tech-TV last week. I can't get to either site at the monent for obvious reasons -- so I don't know if it was the same one. I think I've seen a lot of these of late. Must be an Iraqui War meme at work.
So my 50 cents canadian (0.001 american dollars) is letting my have some legal file sharing
Holy Cow! I need to check the exchange rates more often! I'm hopping into my car right now and heading up top Canada to BUY stuff! I'll live like a King! A mansion and private zoo in Ottowa for 25 bucks! All the replacement organs I'll ever need for mere PENNIES!
I think if I had too, I'd probably go this route (the PDA route) for either kid. A slightly older Palm or equivalent can be had rather cheaply, and with a portable keyboard can be used to take notes and do assignments. It's not a tragedy if it ends up lost or broken, and the batteries easily last all day. Mine have always held up pretty well to abuse
Of course, for a 7th-grader, I still fail to see the need, though.
I dunno. I can't see issuing my middle schooler a laptop. Not because I have any particular problem with their use in education, but because the kid has a tendency to drop stuff (and lose stuff). Seems to be endemic to the age group.
I think there is no MC requirement already for this type of license, right?

Some of these respondents are clearly in need of a severe beating with the humor stick.

This is /. Obviously you meant to write "denying" in place of "divining".
But once I see FOUR-dimensional acceleration, /then/ I might upgrade.

I am overwhelmingly disappointed.
OK -- now you'vegot my attention. Like, um... just how nasty?
Unfortunately, the subjects are usually somebody's ass...

I remember trying to install from those same SLS diskette images downloaded from Rusty 'n Edie's at 9600 baud. It was not a pretty picture.

I'LL LIVE FOREVER!!!!

Last I checked, I pencil or calculator was a tad cheaper than a laptop. Did I miss the price drop?
