I'm sure it doesn't -- even when they were available for download (free of cost) I'm fairly certain they weren't ever freely distributable.

What's puzzling is why they're requiring that you get this stuff on CD when just a year or so ago (maybe a little longer) you could download it freely. $15.00 bucks on the DDK can't be netting them much of a profit, and it only discourages newbies who want to learn to write drivers -- more DD writers ultimately improve MS's market share. So why do this?

Technically, it is free, although they don't seem to offer it for download anymore and impose a completely bogus $15.00 s/h fee. Sucks, but you can probably scrape together the $15.00 if you want to do driver dev.

I think this is true in some cases. After reading this on /., though, I've noticed that around 1/2 of the bounces (at least the ones I'm seeing), are either very generic, or have very little information about the scanner itself -- perhaps just a name (and not even a company name). I still think that most of this is just lameness, both on the part of the AV vendors AND and the part of the admins responsible for configurting them.

That's beside the point. The problem isn't that the mail blocking is objectionable. It's the idiotic reply messages that worsen traffic problems. The email can be blocked with the stupid "warning" being returned to a forged address.

You can also get an actual microscope. A good compound microscope can be had for less than $220 used (check ebay or various used scientific equipment sites). These typically monocular scopes usually offer 3 objectives of around 10x, 40x and 90-100x, giving a total possibly magnification of around 1000x with oil immersion.

Want photographs? You can get surprisingly good results by simply holding a digital camera flush to the eyepiece. I have a few of these I did for fun here.

    Have fun.
