That's funny. I have a 12" Powerbook G4, minimum configuration, and the game runs great. Or ran great, before it started insisting I put the CD in. I refuse.
t breaks new ground in digital photography by combining metadata, like location via GPS, with the image
Oh, that's right. I forgot Microsoft invented metadata. Giggle.
(Am I the only one who heard about this being done by other companies years ago? I distinctly remember finding stuff about something similiar when looking for a Palm GPS module.)
So now we not only need to deal with bad components and stupid designs, but even the components of the components are bad.
This really has to say something about society. A lot like the light bulbs in Forward the Foundation. Just how much useless, broken crap does the world need?
I've never seen it documented anywhere... I found it by mistake.
Click on a long menu. It doesn't matter if it is from the menu bar or a popup menu. Start typing the name of the item you want to select. Hit Return when it selects the right one.
It's only of so-so use out of the menu bar, but for things like country or font popups it's a godsend.
I should think that's obvious by now -- yes, you do. Luckily, you're unlikely to run into them in other applications. It has to do with the way Safari has to patch into Core Graphics to perform drawing. It's at a much lower level than most applications.
Personally, I just bought the Panther upgrade for iChat AV ($30 alone), FileVault, and Expose. Expose, the new application switcher and the type-select menus alone were worth the cost of the upgrade for me.
But you can wait as long as you want before upgrading. Maybe 10.4 will be more exciting for you. There's no need to get every system release unless you really want something out of it. I don't think anyone can ever really argue they "need" something out of a Mac OS X release, since they obviously had the previous version and survived somehow without the feature.
Does this qualify as an invention? Is it patentable?
If so, I hope a big corporation doesn't manage to scoop it behind his back. Any time you radically reduce the cost of something there's a big risk of that.
They don't really have that much choice in this case. There were a lot of fixes to Core Graphics and other frameworks of Panther (little things like text not rendering properly). I don't think it's at all realistic for Apple to back-port those fixes to Jaguar. And without them, Safari 1.1 and 1.2 would look terrible.
The first amendment gives you the right to speak. It does not require people to carry your message to others (example: media). Nor does it require others to pay attention to what you have to say (spam). Nor does it give you the right to abuse private facilities.
Apparently it's a particular component that's failing. From what I understand, the component (not the logic board) is defective.
In other words, once you get a good motherboard it'll stay good. If you keep getting bad ones, they'll die in a few months so just keep trying!
That said, it seems likely that Apple will try to flush the defective logic boards out of the parts inventory. Who knows how succesful they'll be, though? One would think eventually they'd run out...
This is a lot better than the $50 rebate on Apple store software that users would have probably gotten with a class action. Of course, the class action might happen anyway -- there's a lawyer to be paid, after all.
Well, all you really need is velocity sensing. The M-Audio Keystation 49e - USB Midi Keyboard ($99 US, Apple Store) should suffice.
Note: I got the Evolution Professional e isntead, since it was stocked by my local Apple dealer. $169 CDN.
Or protect it with authentication.
Article summary: "OH NO. SECURITY THROUGH OBSCURE URLS DOESN'T WORK!"
Good grief. If you can't secure a web server, don't run one.
I tried; didn't work. Not sure why.
It runs just fine on a 12" Powerbook G4 (1 GHz), so I'm sure it has no problem with G4 desktops.

Or you could just distrust your mirrors and look over your shoulder like you were taught to back when you were learning to drive.

This isn't news at all. This has been Palm's strategy for the past few years -- one OS for low-end devices, one for high end.
The only difference is the previously high-end OS is becoming the low-end. Which will happen again one day with Palm OS 6.
all = call (hopefully that's obvous, but...!) :)
There's a number you can all to get the current time and date.
But I have no idea what it is.
Alternately, you can look at your computer or flip your (cable) TV to the listings.I totally agree. You can have my "old fashioned, dead technology" watch when you can pry it off my cold, dead arm.
I'm somewhat dismayed that my current watch shows me the date. Why would I need a watch to tell me that?
It's says 4 right now. But it's obvious that it's November 4th! How could someone be even one day off and think it was the 5th?

This is beyond silly.

Wait a minute. Isn't this a radio program we're talking about? Who cares if it won't go fullscreen?
The resulting network is... unstable. I don't know what's wrong specifically, and it took a few days to realize the problem was real.
Rumor is that the timing of this announcement is purposeful in the efforts to get Michael Eisner outed in favor of Roy Disney.
Oh, I hope it's true! Please, no more Haunted Mansion. Let Eddie Murphy out of his contract so he can go do a decent movie!
I thought it was a typo at first.
It's worth noting that window maps are often stored in system RAM, not VRAM. If it were me, I'd reseat the RAM before panicking.
Macintoshes don't have motherboards, they have logic boards.
The reason is largely historical -- there used to be two "motherboards" in each unit. They were called the analog and digital (or logic) board.
I think the iBook has a single motherboard, however. More's the pity -- when a headphone jack breaks, the CPU gets replaced as well.
Apparently it's a particular component that's failing. From what I understand, the component (not the logic board) is defective.
