That's right! Everything! Well, except defense.
Then we tax every corp in the world, regardless of whether they do business in the U.S. or not, for the privilage of being able to sell in the US. If they don't pay, well, they'll be considered a rogue corp and dealt with occordingly.
This way we (in the U.S.) can sit around on our asses and do nothing! Think about it - permanent vacation!!!
Some people, I think the Morphia or something like that, invented this a few years ago. They call it "protection" I think. Something to consider.
I can't blame them.
There would be similar pressures - but for more money:
Unreasonable deadlines
Getting called in the middle of the night
At least they won't be obsolete every six months because technology changed. Fuck, if I had the contacts, I'd be right there with them!
Tell me about it. I had an issue with NetGear a few months ago. I bought a dual speed hub that wasn't connecting to a 10Mbs card - even though a cross-over connection worked fine. To make a long story short, their service dept. told me to slow the entire network down to 10Mbs. A network engineer friend of mine said that he thought it was a NW card dying. My friend was right - they were wrong. Where were the support people you ask? Take a wild guess.
BTW, my network engineer friend had the same information that the support people did - maybe even a little less.
You would have found out when the movie comes out and you see all those movie tie-in fast food meals:
Now, for a short time only! The Darth Vader, Luke's Father, crispy chicken meal!
A couple of you posted some links for archives and also metioned something about lawyers and licenses - as in it may be illegal to archive the site?. It would be nice if the Webmonkey folks gave their content to someone like GNU - officially so that their work would live on.
Yes, exactly. I would use the current Google interface as a marketing model to all PHBs.
Here's a service that offers what customers want. period. There's no need to add bullshit or anything else that would increase costs and subsequently prices. You don't need a Google cam, email, calendar, masterbation tracker, or whatever...the service as is... is perfect for the marketplace. Leave it alone! The Cell phone people need to hear this... that's another post....
Yes, that would help. Another thing that would help us Linux newbies is a matrix that would show us the difference between the 2.0, 2.4,2.6 Kernels.
Forgive me, but I'm used to the highest numbered software to be the latest and best and when I go up to kernel.org, I see all these kernels being updated and maintained. Google'ing for the answer isn't helping.
I don't know why your were modded down to -1, but I had the same thought. I haven't seen this story picked up on any other news outlet yet. And the article was posted on Feb 19th! What's going on here.
Yes, but posts like yours helps those of us who have no clue to investigate things we never knew about. Thank you! (I'm not being sarcastic.)
There's so many Linux sites and things to read about that I can't read it all! That's one of the reasons why I spend so much (too much - according to my girlfriend) time on slashdot and Linux sites. I know I need to learn about this stuff - and it's fun!! But, sometimes people bring things up that I've never have thought of before. Again, thank you. The more you help us mewnbies, the more Linux will gain desktops.
It is interesting that much of what is happening in the world isn't mentioned in the US news. East Timor anyone? I guess it has to do with ratings. It's unfortunate that editing the content of the news increases viewership.
You see I, a US citizen, want to see ALL of the news, but unfortunately, our corporate news outlets censor a lot of what's going on to boost ratings! That's why I read foreign news sources as much as I can.
I have a negatives of Great Grandparents. When I see digital media last that long, then I'll faith in the long term storage of digital. Also, you don't have to worry about technology compatibility with negatives. In other words, I'd be afraid in a couple of decades that I couldn't read my CD because the tech is obsolete.
I've had an experience where a "recruiter" called and said "I was perfect" for the job and I was pretty much "hired". All he needed were 3 management references. So, I gave them to him. After calling and emailing him for a couple of weeks to see what's up and never hearing from him, I gave up. I found out later that he called all my references to see if they needed his company's services! He was using me for sales contacts!! I do not use job web sites anymore.
Yes, but we have the "highest standard" of living. We have to work our asses off in order to support our consumerist, workaholic, and soulless society.
Work now for tomorrow you may die! To hell with actually having a life! Ok, I'm a little bitter after working my ass off to only get laid-off.
With revealing or embarrassing photos of people appearing on the Internet without their knowledge, locations around the nation have banned camera phones, including many health clubs and schools. Sensitive government and corporate buildings also are trying keep the phones out, and a handful of states are considering new laws to limit their use. How are they going to enforce this? By frisking everyone that comes into an area that doesn't allow phone?
I'd rather have jammers in place then have to put up with being patted down - whic I won't. I don't go to ball games anymore because of their insistance of searching amyone who comes into the stadium.
I know what you're saying and you're right. The thing that's concerning me - go into MS Word. Do a "Save As". You'll see a bunch of choices. Amoung them: Word 2.0 for Windows, Word 5.1 for Mac, Word 6.0/95 etc..... It looks like they have to add backwords compatibility for thenselves.
Why do they have to add all those choices for older versions of Word? Will OpenOffice have to do this too?
"convert people to OpenOffice.org on Windows first" This has been a concern of mine. Whenever I have to send a doc via email, it's ALWAYS assumed to be in some MS Office format. I would switch to OpenOffice, but I'm afraid that when MS comes out with a new version, it will break any compatibility that OpenOffice has and any doc I send will look like shit - if I'm lucky - or not be able to be viewed at all.
MS Office is the defacto office suite is the US and if you don't comply, you're SOL.
It's like that with anything. The psychologists will say when anything inteferes with your life, (example: you blow-off going to work, let's say, to watch porn) it's a problem. It doesn't necessarilly have to be a "bad" (booze, drugs) activity.
I'm sad to say that the politician's pockets would be the only ones to get lined in that case. We the people get screwed in the end.

Yes, I'm joking.

Anyway, thanks for the link! :-)
'nuff said.

Two words: Cognitive Disonance
They think that their cause is just/right/whatever so they feel justified to spam people.

I just send a bogus invalid email addresses back at them.

Not to mention the callusus on my right hand and tennis elbow from visiting certain web sites a little too often.
