A g5 tower is not $500 retail, I cant get my own bare bones system and put my own HD/ram/video in it, I have to get a G5 preconfiged with apples inflated HD/ram/video card options. Apple prices in 30% margin to all components, not just the ones they make. If apple sold G5 towers with only the board+cpu+box then we could have more freedom to config our own at our own prices/sources.
Also prices outside USA arent very competative, though better than the past. Apple isnt going to ship lots of empty machines to a country to have them configed at that destination with local parts are they.

But given that 90% of the OS was in pascal and some assembly with some programmers gone for good and with left over bad source codes, I could see why it was hard to do, but hey, the OS of 1994 was a lot smaller than today. The thing is, apple could have done this OSX stuff in 1984, all it needed to do was dedicate 5-8 programmers, give em some working unix on a high-end sun, and port the whole System 6 to it. Give em 5 years time frame and they could have been done by 1989. Sure their OS probly wouldnt run on any mac hardware, but by 93/94 it could have and been well ahead or at least ready for the big OSX, well before 1999.
Acid gives the peek about 2-3hours after taking it, then its strong for a few more hours, but by the 6th hour you can feel it disapearing and your frame of mind is more coherent rather than loopy after 6hours, sure the physical effects are still quite strong, but your mind is back to 90% of its normal self or so (not like it was 3hrs earlier). So all up 12 hrs till theres barely 5% left of it, but 6-8hrs till your finishing your peak, then its tapering off.
You could take 2 trips at once, mmmm:) though not wise to take 2hrs apart as it is not as strong as both at the same time.

An mp3 player with a little 320x240 screen running C64 in a chip. And a rom with say 64meg of c-64 games (ie all of em) would sure rock!!! Especially if it plays SID files too.
Sure those games look crap on a big tv/monitor, but on a 1inch screen they wouldnt look that bad and be actually very playable still (assuming you map the right joystick ports to the buttons)

LATER, we can move to full mpeg4 DVDs in HD using faster decode chips, but still using the same DVDs/printing presses.
Blueray requires too much change and would take too long to adopt.
Comon, someone start the ball rolling with an unofficial DVDeX to support 1180/20mbps mpeg2s. Maybe the PCs/laptops could play it first using software players but it would be a good 'hacked' extension. Anyone wanna try it? (You need TV's HD footage first to convert to your custom DVD extended format. MS already has their 'WMV HD movie' format but that requires like 3ghz CPU power.
Do you have experience in making films that ARE NOT BORING as hell! sure you can make one puncing on facts all day long, but your audience will fall into a coma.
The point of any doco for the masses is to just make 1 point, and that point I thought was, america is run by or mainly full of paranoid schitzos that wont make decisions based on reason but out of fear.

Linux is a kernel, and ontop of it lies the GNU operating system which is composed of lots of littel 3rd party tools all based around the bsd/unix setup. Now, redhat as a whole can be called an OS, or mandrake etc....
There is nothing stopping Redhat or Suse from porting their 'OS' to freebsd or netbsd, or even darwin and it still looking like former. It wont use linux kernel, but it will look the same, but you cannot call it linux.
So what is linux? at the core , nothing more than the kernel/driver layer.
Except MS has merged the kernel/driver/graphic/desktop/filemanagement layers all into ONE package which they 100% control like Apple too.

How bout a $399 DELL shitbox with a $400 1ghz PPC card and subsystem emulation to make OSX think it is on an applebox?
This technique worked great in the 90s for amigas running mac os, or those macs running windows with a an intel chip on a mac card.
