I'm guessing that, as with integrated graphics, having (a) shared GPU/CPU(s) would allow having an additional video card. I seriously doubt they're going to remove the PCIe 16x slot from motherboards any time soon.
The researchers used a piece of silicon crystal about 300 microns thick -- about three times the width of a human hair -- less than 3 inches long and about one-tenth of an inch wide.
3x the width of a human hair? Maybe, for you. But me, I use *insert name brand* Volumizing Shampoo! Now, my hair is 3x stronger, smoother, and thicker than before!
No, that generation has passed. There's a reason why the Camery is the number one selling passenger car in the United States, followed by the Honda Accord, then the Honda Civic, and the Chevy Impala is number four (as of 2005)
They're both consoles, they both do the same thing. Neither is completely "better" than the other, but rather that customers have to compare their perceived values? Besides, any Slashdotter that's getting a PS3 has been waiting for the past few days outside their local national chain with 10 bags of Doritos and lifetime supply of delivery pizzas
On iTunes an album costs about 10 bucks--as much as $8 less than some CD retailers charge, partially because of the reduced cost of getting music to buyers online.
How about it's cheaper because the quality is less than 1/10 of that of a CD, let alone a SACD or DVDA?
I was an English major and made my way into IT through the workplace. I constantly encounter situations where I use my college skills to write and speak clearly. In fact, I'm struck by how well those skills have aged at this point in my career versus the skills of IT/CS majors my age (I'm 40).
Umm, might I ask why you:
A) Visit Slashdot?
and
B) Post on Slashdot?
On a side note, the accounting department at the university I attend is pushing communication skills fairly hard. Apparently, the upper management for the business school learned that, in order to be effective and efficient in the office and with clients/business partners, communication is kind of important.... I guess that's why they outsource correcting memos for projects to English majors to have them grade the grammar, then ship them back to the professors to grade the content.
You can still give DPMS the same inactivity time limit as the screensaver, resulting in the screensaver locking the account and the monitor turning off simultaneously.
because honestly, what's the point of defragmenting a hard drive? It's just going to fragment again. And don't get me started about journalized file systems, that'd make too much bloody sense!
People talk about how it'll take a while for QWERTY people to switch, but it's not really that long. Most of the effort of learning to type is learning finger mechanics; the idioms ("th", etc.) are a relatively minor piece -- and *much* easier in Dvorak, since it was explicitly designed for them.
Try explaining to secretaries and union members that they have to switch. Please report back with your results.
I know Metal Gear Solid 2 requires the rumble feature for when you get the cell phone, otherwise you never know when to answer it. What're they going to do to solve that? Whenever I get my PS3 (probably after next Christmas,) hopefully I'll be able to use my Playstation(2) USB adapter I have for my computer....
...don't use Dell's standard web form that home users use to purchase a computer. If you're talking about hundreds or thousands of computers, I'd wager my left nut that they'd be talking to somebody instead of using a web form. If they're talking to somebody, I'd also be willing to bet that they can demand that Windows not be installed and have either FreeDOS or RedHat pre-installed (since it seems Dell only sells RedHat for Linux, and I'd imagine that Dell signed a contract with RedHat saying that they would only install RedHat versions of Linux and not Novell Linux.)
So, basically, it won't come down to things like switching from companies like Dell because they don't offer Linux on all of their product, just from an increase of people demanding Linux, so Dell makes it easier to order Linux instead of jumping through as many hoops, thus resulting in more sales because Dell makes it easier to get a large number of computers with Linux installed than HP
And I say "Nay"
I'm seeing the majority to continue to use their computers as they do now (with Windows XP Home) until they become so sluggish that they are not able to be productive. Virtually nobody will install Linux because:
1) All of their software that they purchased for Windows is not compatible (not that they would realize this until after they install Linux and go "WTF?")
2) The average computer is not a techie. They treat their computers like cars; how many people do you know actually rotate their own tires or change their own oil? Some do, like my family, but the vast majority of people I know bring their cars to dealerships and shops to have it done.
There's some bullshit law that requires companies like Dell and HP to sell computers with some sort of OS in order to "protect" the customers. That's why Dell puts freedos on some of their computers rather than shipping them out with clean hard drives.

So, does this mean I can download the latest version of Maya and not have to worry about corporate lawyers? Sweeet....

Either them or NASA

Unless you're concerned about things like wireless networking or being able to use SD, CF and Memory Stick cards.

Why? Because Tennessee already has copyright for the name Titans in anything

I mean, Microsoft is only, like, Microsoft's largest client. Imagine the loss in revenues if Microsoft switched to something like Apple!

The only thing though, is that Hollywood doesn't use Radeons, they use FireGL's

Sure, you could read about it from some magazine or author of a web site, but why not skip that all and go straight to who uses the product? http://www.amazon.com/Reilly-Technologies-15759549 07-Moneydance/dp/B00005A9VI
Is that located next to the Superdome, or the Metrodome?
How else can we explain the continuation of warrantless wiretaps, Guantanamo, etc?

Yeah, that's like, $5,000 Canadian, right?
