I'm not sure that's true. Botulism toxin is the harmful stuff, and if the botulinum has been sitting in the food producing the toxin, then cooking it will kill the bacteria but will not do anything about the toxins.
And yet people are attacked in prisons all the time. That would tend to cast some doubt on his assertion that total surveillance would lead to total lawfulness.
I do not think you would find resistance from the military if you organized a million man march %%%% bent on tearing the white house apart with torches rifles and grenades.
Perhaps not the military, since their mission is not domestic peacekeeping or law enforcement, but certainly police and if it really were a million people the national guard. Depending on how close they actually got to the White House, the Secret Service, and make no mistake about it, those guys are willing to shoot to kill to protect the President. Though I'm guessing he would be in Marine One and out of there long before a mob reached the White House.
Newsprint world wide takes about 1 Billion trees per year. That would greatly improve sustainability of the environment to reduce paper demands.
Not really; almost all of those trees were grown specifically to be made into paper. Reduce the demand for paper, and you reduce the number of trees. Whether that would be good or bad depends on what would be done with that land instead of growing trees.
I'm guessing several commenters read the headline and commented without reading the summary, or somehow read the summary and still came away thinking "print" in this context means written words. Several people have made comments to the effect of "if the newspapers didn't suck so much they wouldn't be in trouble", which as you say makes no sense in the context of this story.
Maybe if the print media kept a more just the news stance and made even a small attempt to keep opinions in the editorial sections they might be doing better.
That problem has nothing to do with the success or failure of the physical print side of the newspaper (which is what this story is about), as the same words are on the web site.
Are hospitals (as in individual staff) competent and diligent in basic hygiene?
Some are, some aren't. I recently saw a video about someone who got a MRSA infection because a nurse didn't wash her hands. Apparently doctors tend to be pretty bad about washing hands in hospitals, though there's been a push for better hand washing or at a minimum disinfecting.
I think those people are absolutely foolish though, as if what they believed (diversity of skin color or gender being important for its own sake) were true
Some people believe that, but I think (hope) the more prevalent view is that since our society treats people of difference genders and skin colors differently, those people will have different experiences. Thus gender and race become a proxy for more underlying types of diversity. If everyone were truly treated alike regardless of sex, race, or sexual orientation, those would no longer be useful proxies for real diversity, but sadly we're a long way from that.
Either that, or perhaps we should start replacing members of Congress in order to elect people who have the balls to actually use the tools at their disposal to keep people in check.
That would be awesome. It's so frustrating to see Congress abdicate their responsibility to oversee the executive branch.
Outside of North America, FedEx and UPS are bit players - everyone uses DHL if they want to mean anything
You made me curious. According to the numbers I could find, FedEx International ships about twice as many packages as DHL.

I'll believe it when I see it, but if I had four providers offering good broadband instead of one that would be awesome.
Don't forget not sharing bathrooms with black people.

If hardwoods are still being cut down to be replaced with soft woods for paper production, yes.
Where do you get the idea that only matters of life and death are utilities?

With a computer, you have to search for something in order to bring it up to see - if you don't know it exists, then how do you search for it.
I didn't know about this story about printing presses, and I read it on a computer. It was on my slashdot news feed.
Stop putting lots of sick people in a same building.
You want to have lots of little hospitals instead? Or have disastrously sick people just stay home? Or what?

Rather than making email into an application, why not use an actual task management application?
OK, I have no idea about the specifics of his case, just wasn't sure if you were equating no visitors with solitary confinement.
"Not allowed to have visitors" is very very different from solitary confinement, though the latter implies the former.
What messages do you send and receive that can't wait until you get where you're going? Just curious.

but they're 0-value adding middlemen
What is your explanation for why people use these apps if they add no value?
Not to mention "It's", "too", "you", "lose", "eat". I'm guessing either ESL or a phone.

Let's count Obama's wars: begin!
So are you going to begin, or what?
Worse, they'll use the money to buy votes or to prosecute yet more foreign wars. How many did Obama start, 7 in 8 years?
Really, what seven or eight wars did Obama start?
I think HDMI started disappearing well before USB-C got popular.
