You go through all this effort to have, effectively, multiple windows inside your browser space (just like multi-window browsing does).
It depends on how you browse. Usually I don't want to wait for things to load, so I can click on a series of links (from Google or Slashdot or whatever) and have them all load in the background. Then I kill off each tab with a hotkey when I finish the page. You never have to deal with multiple windows. It's a handy feature to sort through competing information quickly. Needless to say, while it is absent from IE, it will remain one of the most overhyped features in alternative browsers.
All "trickle-down" economics does is make sure the rich get richer faster.
It certainly tends to create a lot of opportunities for this, especially when the distribution of wealth is *so* uneven (like now). One area where trickle-down economics (should it be called "trickle-up" ?) does work is in the development of new industries. People who are super rich are willing to make large, risky investments with at least some of their money. Small individual investors will stay away, and institutional investors will usually play it safe (the late 90's broke this trend temporarily, but I don't think that will happen again for a while). Anyway, in new industries this type of extra investment basically goes to research and development, helping technology and business mature faster than they would otherwise. I entirely agree with your points about established industries, however.
As a site gets more popular, wouldn't it be possible to get other people to help out ? The most rudimentary method would involve getting a few people to mirror your larger files. The next step up would be to host some of your content with a peer to peer scheme. We already have BitTorrent, which allows small sites to serve up large files. Imagine what could be done with an analogous utility which allows small sites to handle a large number of hits.
Install Mandrake Linux. You boot from the CD. It asks you three questions (if you are connected to a network), and everything works... Except for my LG cdrom !
I've always liked the Tux mascot, and now I realize what it was that I found so appealing : the friendly, absent minded, blank stare. Like a plush toy with no brain.
Likewise nobody can sell you a product with a license like "by using this product, you surrender your right to free speech". Oh wait, it was called Microsoft Frontpage.
"You may not use the Software in connection with any site that disparages Microsoft, MSN, MSNBC, Expedia, or their products or services, infringe any intellectual property or other rights of these parties, violate any state, federal or international law, or promote racism, hatred or pornography."
Why buy lies when the truth is free?
Because the truth doesn't always say what you want it to ?
But what about all the other possibilities ? What else can happen ?
1) First they ignore you
2) Then you screw up and fail!
1) First they ignore you
2) Then they laugh at you
3) Then others laugh at you, and you fail!
1) first they ignore you
2) then they laugh at you
3) then they fight you
4) and they win !
Where are all those people ? I'd reckon they're still running OS/2.

I think you're deluding yourself with the intelligent part... take a look around :)

Let's take their money and switch to *BSD
I happen to think there are some movies which can be enjoyed without knowing a single word of dialog.
And then there are movies where the dialog is so corny, dull, canned, annoying, or overwrought that they'd be much improved by the absence of dialog altogether. Honorable mention goes to this series, whose conclusion I hear is even worse.
What you will get is 5 million shitty apps.
You couldn't have put it better.

Can't Microsoft just buy Eols and fire all their employees and have this nightmare be over with.
By absorbing many small, evil companies, Microsoft becomes more evil.
... until you can watch your house burn over the internet - with Linux.
And the next version talks back, saying "Resistance is futile".
It's not a religion.
For all intents and purposes Steve Jobs IS a cult leader, and he's running the company. Watch him set fire to the compound when the IRS closes in.
Softwre free, beer not free!
I understand Richard Stallman already made this sort of argument. I use the free software, but I haven't been able to find any free beer.
But not him, because he's a psychopath. His picture isn't warm and fuzzy either. He looks like a psychopath.

I know I'll be modded into oblivion for this.
